2fifty Chat / Possible DNA250 in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
« on: December 30, 2019, 06:41:20 AM »
I think we might have a DNA250 in this movie. Couldn’t see the quarterglass in the first instance at 3:47 but at minute 14ish a fixed quarterglass was definitely visible.

FYI There is also a ‘66/7 911 TARGA AND ‘69 911S featured.

Can’t upload images from my iphone by the look of it. Apologies.

General Chitchat / Visiting LA and VEGAS
« on: April 04, 2017, 10:36:11 PM »
Hi all

I'm in LA and Vegas for two weeks and hoping there might be an owner in either of those areas whose chariot I could see. I don't mind which variant ... I'd just love to see one of these rippers in the 'flesh'

Any insights gratefully received.

Btw I have contacted DNA USA but am hoping to enlist wider support - I also couldn't find their location via the website but that might just be my fault.

2fifty Chat / No two 250s were the same

This short video shows the restoration of a 250GT that has quite a few differences from the better known variant. Quite a few differences.

CAVEAT

These images are of a 1958 LWB ... BUT, they provide excellent information for those of us wishing to build our rep more accurately.

ENJOY!

2fifty Chat / 250GT Cali Quarterglass
« on: December 30, 2016, 02:55:48 AM »
Just thought folks might like to see a rep with a functioning quarterglass ... I imagine it's an MGB one but have no real clue .... for mine, it sits too "vertical" which won't be a problem with the Z3

2fifty Chat / Badges and Grille - size and location
« on: December 30, 2016, 01:11:30 AM »
Hope everyone has had a safe, peaceful and joyful Christmas. In contrast to my dear Uk brethren, we had 34C, which is 98F on the day.

Ok enough of the OT stuff :D

There are a heap of badges/emblems available via eBay but knowing which ones to get is a challenge  -  some look brilliant (bonnet/hood emblem for example) and even claim to be original, but are the wrong dimensions as far as I can make out. On the Cali it "looks" like the hood emblem should be around 75mm high. The prancing horse, seems to be around 90 - 100mm but I don't really know the height of the grille so may be way off. The rear script is a conundrum too, but less important to get 100% precise I suppose. I imagine the letters to be around 30mm high but again, don't really have a clue ... until that is, I can see one of the genuine vehicles (not 250 but an "F" from then period) in the flesh so I cam measure them.

GRILLE:

I believe the grille offered by DNA is in acrylic, which is probably perfectly fine, but I'd like to fabricate one in polished stainless or chromed steel  -  I've seen a couple of variants on the original vehicles (on the same as offered and the other with more rounded ends) but to avoid having to adjust the opening, intend to keep it the same.

The one pictured seems to be made from 2mm material and "may" even be aluminium ... the outer cowl (?) sure looks like it.

Anyway, I am keen to get your thoughts on these aspects of the vehicle build. Thanks!

2fifty Chat / MODENA 250GT Cali's from 1989
« on: December 10, 2016, 01:13:40 PM »
These images were taken at a car show in Pomona California when I lived there in the late 80's  -  not particularly exciting, but one thing's for sure ... DNA's product definitely rivals these. Note the "surprise?"

opening quarter vents! No idea what they're from ... have been trying to find out and though they may be MGB, but don't think so. There are some pretty "average" looking features on these examples.

Hi folks

Just bought myself a couple of these to see if their quality was reasonable ... I thought members might like to pick one up themselves  -  I would've posted pics but their system doesn't allow even me to grab images ... I will try a little somehting in a minute and see vhow I go ... if it works I will post again shortly

Cheers

2fifty Chat / 250 Cali detail questions
« on: November 06, 2016, 10:24:25 AM »
Hey folks - hope this is the correct place to ask the following:

- I saw a chrome surround on what I believe was a DNA 250 windscreen and I'm wondering, is that a factory option or a wrap etc.

- in Australia Z3s cost between (GBP equivalent) 1000 and 12000. The low-end cars are potentially dogs I guess and the high-end are cherries with low mileage etc. Anyway, is there a series or model year that's better/best?

- is there a preferred engine configuration on the vehicles as far as conversion to 250 goes?

- I can only imagine manual gearbox is the way to go, but I'm wondering if a six-speed would be good option, if available in Australia.

- wire wheels are the way to go I feel, so I wonder, are there suitable used options from other vehicle makes or do I need to look for a supplier of new?

Thanks in advance. Super sleuths may glean that I'm beginning to explore possibilities. It's early days, but I'm wanting to research thoroughly. I'll be reaching out to the BMW club here to learn about the vehicle's quirks etc.

Cheers

General Chitchat / A slightly early HAPPY NEW YEAR
« on: December 31, 2013, 02:24:53 AM »
G'day from downunder again folks  -  I just wanted to offer you all my very best wishes for a new year filled with love, peace and happiness. So many folks here extend great kindness to fellow members and us strays from other climes and I am most grateful for that.

Stay safe over the break and remember "a soft answer turns away wrath"  an old proverb but timeless.

I will be flying solo for the first time in my life this evening but it is for a sad yet powerful reason. To explain, my heroic wife is in Kenya on assignment with the Red Cross as they work to rebuild shattered lives and provide greater capacity for people to cope with the gravest challenges of our age.

Perhaps if any of you are moved to do so, you might spare a thought or two for those like her and those she is working to help.

Peace and again, sincere thanks for your kindness through 2013

Steve

General Chitchat / One of the World's greatest actors died today
« on: December 15, 2013, 09:05:25 PM »
It is with deep sadness that I became aware this morning, of the death of one of the world's greatest actors.

This man among men who gave the world Lawrence of Arabia, Peter O'Toole has gone from us. Though his performance in this epic film was regarded as among the greatest ever seen, Mr. O'Toole captured and held my heart with his performance as Miguel De Cervantes' addled hero, Don Quixote in The Man Of La Mancha. On that miserable Sunday afternoon in Melbourne in 1979, I witnessed this magnificent rendering, full of humanity and passion.

Mr. O'Toole your performance awakened in me a lifelong desire to help others.

The world is made ever larger for your contribution. For that, I am most gratefully in your debt.

We will not see the likes of you again.

And for those who remain unaware if this man's unforgettable potency as a storyteller, I humbly offer this as illustration as to why I was forever changed by him - I must do better:

Didn't think much about it at all until I noticed something interesting ..... anyone know what that might be?
