Hi Lee,
Yes I experienced that at first, had some success using a soldering iron on the metal blade to heat up close to the black plastic fob outer hoop, and wiggling a bit. I then realised these ferrari blank metal key blades have a small drill hole at the top (hidden inside the black plastic) and black plastic goes through that hole. A small drill bit sorted that out, soon as you're through one side of plastic, the drill soon finds the hole in the blade (if that makes sense).
This should leave a small rectangular hole in the black plastic part. Lay the MR2 key shaft end on top, mark the shape of the stub you need at the end (I used a metal scribe), for it to fit in the Ferrari fob, then start filing. Its soft metal, so pretty easy. I used Araldite 2 part epoxy glue to stick it in, and did my best to make the fit as snug as possible.
Hope that helps
Hi Redhot,
So I bought one of these key fobs a few years back, and gave up at the first hurdle, as I couldn’t see how to get the original metal blade out of the fob and the the MR2 blade into the fob without destroying the plastic ?
Any advice?
