Hi and welcome Mark,
looks like most of it has been said, good luck with the sale of dash and kit, though I think you will struggle to sell
the body. If it does not sell let me know I may be interested to cut it up for relations bedroom

Hi Ian

Thank you for the offer and yes would like to take you up on it. Bit of a bad day here. Took the existing kit off and found a bad repair to the passengers side inner wing. Also the main bars that connect to the bulkhead have a gap. Im not too good at explaining or the correct part names so please bear with me. I now realise I should of not purchased the car and I do hope this is not the end of the car.

I've never noticed that area as a potential corrosion point, so my guess is that it's been in an accident, your log book should say if it has, or a vin check will clarify.
There are several options
1) if the car is true and straight, get the chassis runners rewelded to the car, preferably seamed.
2) put the car on a jig and lasered true, this will enable the technician to clear the car in an engineer's report and they can weld where necessary.
3) Forget you saw it. (not really an option)

If you go for the laser option don't go to franchised garages, a good reputable independent repair specialist will be able to repair it at a minimal cost to you.
 Hope this helps.

Well, I'm into the 11th year of the project, could it be ready for Stoneleigh 2020, doubt it. The longest DNA build ever

Hi D

Yes you are right its has a knock on the passenger side with a poor repair. Log book says C. The radiator plate looks ok but the front reinforcement bar is very damaged so will have to get another and look at how to connect to the front securely. As the car had a kit on it all this was covered up. My mistake and only to blame for buying it. I know I should have bought a straight car and start from scratch. I want to do that but I cant afford to scrap this car and start again. At least you think these chassis runners can be rewelded I feel a little better so will ask around if anyone knows who can weld these up. The car has gone through 3 mots and passed as it is but I just dont want to spend a lot of money on the new kit etc only to find the car is unsafe.

The old kit is now off including the original doors. Going to buy some and start again.

The 360 DNA kit was specifically designed to accommodate cat D (panel damage not structural) cars. The 360 kit fits slightly differently when compared to the 430, the door skins are manufactured with a lot of tolerance in mind, so don't get rid of the doors just yet. Roland and Brian will go through this with you when you go and see them.

The one thing you must do is get the car straight, all the mounting points of the kit are adjustable, but these adjustments are for shut lines etc... Get the car put on a jig, even if it costs £500 (£250 per day is typical). The extra work to fit the kit and paint it will cost you in the long run if you don't.
Sorry you've bought hassle, but it seems repairable

Always get a second opinion, especially someone who can actually inspect the damage

Hi

Thank you for your advice and help, feel a lot better, really appreciate it. I can sleep no knowing its repairable, extra money but thats fine.  I have friend of a friend popping over on Wednesday to take a look and did not seem like an issue as well on the phone when describing the welds. I have seen on ebay a front section £75:00 from an undamaged car so could get that and cut away the bad repair so all looks like new.
The existing doors have the kit on and badly done so will be easier to start with fresh ones.

Thanks again
