Kalifornia's build thread
« on: October 04, 2014, 12:09:58 PM »
Ok
I have started stripping down my silver SL500.
Been driving it around for a while, wanted to make sure that all was OK before the build.
Little jobs I done before stripping were to get the car gas converted as it costs me 59p per litre.

Got the car fully serviced and sorted a little error message that kept coming on the dashboard in red saying visit workshop.

Got the head rest done with the horse, got red matts with logos.

Got a massive upgrade on my sound system, the standard one is very good but I love my music system. It's can be very loud. But the kenwood has Changed the look of the dash away from the merc look.

Also made the car very modern with the latest Sat Nav, movies, hands free etc.

Some pictures to follow later.

Great stuff Kal. Are you doing the build yourself? Been looking forward to this one.

I am doing some work myself but due to not having a garage DNA will put the kit body on, and the paint shop will paint the car red with a black or charcoal metallic  roof with matching wing grills and alloys.

I did a lot of work on my old 360. and gained a lot of experience.

Today I spent all day taking off the wings, headlights, front and rear bumper, rear lights and all the wheel arch liners, removed the boot carpets and trim. Luckily it wasn't raining. Even Roland popped in to give advise as a bolt in a tight space was seized.

Trust me all of this was very time consuming, as Mercedes like to double up on fasteners and put them in strange places.

DNA are collecting it Monday to start the kit.

I am so going to miss driving the car. its wonderful.

I imagine there is a strong market for the discarded parts.

Looks like a ripper project. Wondering how much the LPG conversion costs over there. Also, can you get the steering wheel (the centre looks brilliant) trimmed in leather or do you plan to eventually replace the whole thing?
