Alloy Wheel Refurb - Anyone recommend someone in the Midlands
« on: October 23, 2013, 09:44:55 PM »
Hi,

Picked up this nice (lightly damaged!) MR2 today!. Its got a nice set of 17inch alloys with good tyres but with some pretty nasty scuffs on 2 of them. Just wondered if anyone can recommend an alloy wheel refurb company (cheap if poss!) in the Midlands? I'm in Coventry,  I bought some alloy wheel filler from ebay was going to give them a go myself with this and then get them powder coated. Has anyone else used this stuff and basically is it any good?

Hopefully you can see the damage to the wheels from the picture
Would appreciate any advice  :)

Cheers Wayne, will send you a PM. The rear on the other side is worse! Also got some Sprinter wheels with the tyres off that I could do with getting done too. Will explain all in PM tonight  :)

That chariot wouldn't be a total write off on oz - if the floor is creased.

Are laws different in the uk?

Yes, it is a total write off here too!!! Floor is creased and car in bent "banana" shaped! I've bought it purely to break. The comical thing was that the seller tried to convince me it was lightly damaged and only needed a new rear wing bolting on and drivers door with a tug on the sill!! What a joke LOL.

Even the hood frame is distorted and the glove box is even out of alignment so a definite car never to be allowed back on the road!

That's one area at least, that government got right - central registration of write-offs.

Though in melbourne our Turkish brothers seem to have a reputation for performing miraculous surgery on such vehicles which reappear as low mileage chariots.

113 govt. employees were charged for this and other bogus acts some years ago

Yes Steve! There's one or two "dodgy" dealers still cutting and chopping cars around to put potential death traps back on the road. The car I bought for spares (in the picture) is clearly scrap and a write off although technically it is "unrecorded" as in its not on the insurance register as a write off. This I understand was probably down to the owner being un-insured. I think he lost it and basically hit a lamp-post side on at high speed!

This potentially is one of those cars that could be bodged and put back on the road by some unscrupulous  individual with no conscience!

Yes, reckon a new door, rear wing and a slide hammer on the sill!!! LOL  Might even be more economical being "banana shaped"!!! Could always offer it on here as a donor?  :)

If you're breaking the MR2 I wouldn't mind first dibs on the instrument cluster, I need to chop one up to swap all the dials around
cheers
