Posting Pictures - How to
« on: April 04, 2013, 12:48:48 PM »
A very common question is:
How do I include pictures in my posts?
along with:
How do I re-size pictures?

Well, for those of you using a PC with Windows, here's one way of doing it:

Part 1

Start with your picture on the PC and open the folder containing the picture.
Right click the picture icon.
Move the mouse pointer over 'Open with' and left click 'Paint'

Part 2
In the new Window that opened
Now click 'Resize'

Part 3
Now click in the button next to 'Pixels'
Check that 'Maintain aspect ratio' is ticked (if not - click in the box next to it).
The size of the picture (in pixels) is shown in the two boxes (Horizontal and Vertical). This gets reduced in the next step.

Part 4

You only need to change the larger of the two numbers (that's why 'Maintain aspect ratio' needs to be ticked).
So change the larger number to 640 and the other will change correspondingly.
Now click 'OK'

Now click the main Paint menu in the top left hand corner.
Next move the mouse pointer over 'Save as' and then over 'JPEG picture' and click.

Part 6

In the 'File name:' box type in a new name for the file - otherwise your original photo will be overwritten. (I normally add '_min' to the original file name, so I know which photo is which.)
Now click 'Save'

Part 8

Now open up the Forum and start your post (either 'Start new Topic'  or 'Reply')
Type in your text
Then click on 'Additional Options' and the + sign to the left of it will change to a - sign and some new boxes will appear beneath.

To add one picture simply click in the 'Browse' box and then navigate to the folder containing the picture you want to add. Click the picture icon and then click 'Open' - that's it.
To add more than one picture - if you click '(more attachments)' another 'Browse' box will appear. You can repeat this for each extra picture. (The current limit is 8 pictures per post.)

Once you've added your pictures and typed your text - just click 'Post' at the bottom as per usual

Hope this has proved useful. If I've missed anything out or it's unclear, let me know and I'll update this.

directly at me then tenpin lol :) i use my smartphone and it auto takes 2-3mb pics

Sorry sundog, I've deleted your post, just to keep all the parts of the 'How to' together.
Not aimed at anybody, besides which there is a size limit so you couldn't post 2-3MB pictures.  ;)

You can, of course, include links to high res pictures, but that does not guarantee that they are always available with your posts. ( Or visible without scrolling left and right!  ::) )
