Not all problems can be solved with gaffer tape.  For those there is WD40.
Not even gaffer tape can fix stupid, but it can mask the sound.

If you can’t buy it or steal it you have to make it.

All ready for Castle Combe.
Updates for the Furrari include a new TPMS that works like it should.  This one also shows pressure and temperature status at each startup, just for a few seconds.  Shows it's working.
A dash cam.  Permanently mounted, not on a vacuum pad thing.

Well I had a bit of a problem in Chippenham.  My sat nav held me prisoner.  I knew it didn't like Bristol but it hates Chippenham.

The show itself was was well attended by visitors but we only had three cars on display, two West Coasts and an Extreme 430.  Even more fun telling the incredulous that that's a Merc, and that's a Merc and that's a Peugeot.  I hope we can do more joint shows in the near future.

The TPMS works very well as does the dash cam but as it only has a small memory chip in it over wrote my attempts to get out of Chippenham.  A bit like a scene from The Prisoner.

I'm starting a new thread just to document my (revised) new diffuser wing.

We went to a pet show today with the furries (as in Furrari).  Got bitten by a donkey.  Smelly thing.

The BURK cover plate is now finished and in place.

Whilst it a necessary mod I would like to thank all those who have joined in with this bit of silliness.

I did have a couple of high voltage stickers to finish it off but I've lost them.

I finished the BURK monitor panel the other day.  I've replaced the original labels with the vinyl ones and put the stickers on the torch cradle.

Just one pic of the panel.  I've shown it out of the car to save me standing on my head to get a decent shot.

I've had a rattle from somewhere at the back for the last few weeks but couldn't find the source.  Took the Furrari for its MOT last week ( it passed, no  advisories) and while it was up on the ramp we had a closer look for the rattle.  We found a broken calipurr.  As the replica antirattle springs were also going rusty we took off the disc as well.  I'll fix the calipurr (Furraris use calipurrs) after Shepton but it won't be going back on yet as I've got some new springs to fit at the same time.

I've taken the new springs to be satin chrome plated, with lots of copper plate on first.  To prevent the chrome being bent and cracked when the spring is tightened I'll print off some aluminium spacers to look like the floating set up.  I'll use the same filament as I used for the engine bits.  As the next show isn't until Feb next year there's no rush.

I've also added an Anderson plug battery charge/jump thing under the rear bumper as another part of the BURK system.  I've put a (big) fuse in the line in case somebody shorts out the pins of the Anderson plug and sets fire to the electrics.  This together with my rechargable booster pack should finally solve my battery/access problems.

Springs are back from plating (satin chrome).  Not as bling as bright chrome but look very nice.

Also found the cause of the problem.  The centre calipurr to the mounting bracket had fallen out so all the load went through the top and bottom mount which is only a self tapper.  From Cal's ( now Montman's) onward the mounting at these points was slightly reinforced and stiffer mounting brackets were introduced.

Not much point just repairing them so a stronger set up will be used to cope with our potholes.

I’m suffering with a bit of arthritis if my hands get very cold.  To help me me I’m getting the thickness of the steering wheel rim increased from the existing 28mm to the current Mercedes thickness of 32/33mm.

Wheel went away this morning, should take about about a week.  I’ve still got the old four spoke wheel if I need to move the car in the meantime.

Pics when the wheel is back.

Although my steering wheel had been changed from the four spoke wheel to a retrimed three spoke wheel from a Merc C203 (it's a coupe, but I don’t know more details).  I was never 100% happy with it as it still looked too Mecedesish.  In a recent post by somebody else ( sorry I can’t remember who) about stickers I alluded to having a new wheel. ( well retrimed again).  A lot of thought has gone into this, and a lot of pinching other people’s ideas.  It’s back now and here it is.

Pic 1).  A general view of the wheel.  The thickness has been increased from 28mm to 33mm.  A much better feel.  The stitching of the leather has been changed to what is called single stitching which gives more visible thread and a double row of stitching has been added to the air bag break line.
Pic 2).  The top of the wheel.  The Italian flag colours.
Pic 3).  The California badge set into the middle of the lower spoke.  The spoke itself has had the depression removed and the bottom of the wheel has had a flat added.
Pic 4).  The crowning piece of the conversion.  Rather than just the usual semi-perforated leather which we call perforated, this is perforated with 2.5mm diameter holes.  A layer of yellow has been placed below the perforated leather to show through the holes.  The black leather had to be redyed after it was perforated so it’s very black at the moment.  This should fade after a bit to reduce the contrast.  A bead has also been added between the leather of the spokes and the rubber of switch panel to hide the height difference

That looks fantastic !
I have just fitted a Sparco D shaped wheel which might benefit from being covered. I was thinking of having a go myself.
Would you mind me asking where and how much ?
Thanks

OXO.   The wheel was done by Paul Darby in Clayhanger, Brownhills.  The standard charge is about £180 but with all the extra work it cost me £280.

Very nice to drive with and is outstanding in appearance.
