Title: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on February 12, 2015, 08:08:42 PM
Hi All

Just joined as purchased a 360 replica. But it is a very old kit apparently (possible Robin Hood) and as a majority of the panels need replacing I am now removing the kit to start again. The donor car is really good, 32000, straight car 03 plate. I have spoken to Brian and I am going to purchase a new 360 kit from them in a few months time. Reason for a 360 than a 430 is that I have the lights, wheels etc. When I got the car (only got it on sunday) I got a lot of original parts. One being a FULL 360 Modena leather dashboard. I am going to sell this to raise some of the money  for the new kit. Does anyone think the old kit is worth anything?

If that wasn't clear enough, I suggest you post losts of pictures so we can see the OLD kit as it is, and we can all advise if it's worth keeping and re-do'ing or worth selling etc etc etc.. Lol.... ;D

Hi All

Here are some pics of the car. The bonnet has several cracks and is ripply all over. The wings are not that bad but do have bumps in. The boot hinges from the hood like a normal boot. I do have the perspex engine cover and a cover for when the hood is down. I hope this is enough info but please do let me know if you need more. Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

I was at Stoneleigh when Enzo design built a 360 at the show, they designed the kit to fit the Mr2 without worrying about the size of the replica against a real Ferrari, this is one of the things that was unfortunately the demise of the kit, people were put off by it's small size. It does look small.

The good bit is that the chassis remains basically untouched, the DNA kit relies on this. The enzo body work is worth something to someone.

Question, why not just buy an Mr2 and then fit a 360 kit? you may find some bits missing from the original car that are needed by the dna kit. you've also got the hassle of taking off the enzo and trying to sell it, where as a complete kit car will be a lot easier to sell.

Hi Darren

Thanks for the reply and advise. I never seem to do things the right way haha. Yes you are right i could just sell the car it as it is and start from scratch but i have started now and no going back. I have built off road vehicles from scratch many years ago and like a challenge. I aim to keep the car for a very long time so i want to get it perfect. Brian said it will be 5 weeks from ordering the 360 kit so gives me plenty of time to repaint the engine bay and any modifications/replacement parts. The suspension is all set up ready (apparently thousand pound cost), wheels and tyres like new. Obviously I will keep the rear lights as well. So although its additional work I have to do there is a saving doing it this way.  Im going to put the kit on ebay and see what happens. If i can sell it along with the genuine dash etc it cuts the cost of a new kit down considerably. Thank you again for your advise

Mark

At least you've made your mind up and can now get on with the build.  ;D
The DNA kit is bigger and you may need the suspension kit for the car, there's plenty of info on this site and you should be able to see the DNA suspension parts on or off a car.
The VVti is a good strong engine and can take a few mods to increase the power, one of the main criticisms of a replica is lack of power. A few adjustments will reap the rewards once you're driving
 1) The DNA exhaust is made for the kit, but stainless one will look better and last longer aswell as helping the  gas flow. (get rid of the precat!!!!!  beat the hell out of the ceramic whilst it's off the car, these are standard fitment but only necessary for California emissions)
 2) Pipercross/K&N air filter will allow the engine to breathe better, don't worry about forced induction.
 3) A stable power chip from a reputable Dyno tuning shop will open the engine to it's true power, post on "twobrutal" to find a good tuning shop in your area and ask if you need to uprate the injectors.

If you trail around the forum you'll notice a fair % of engine upgrades to the 3.0 or 3.5ltr v6 engines, the kit is great, it's the power guys seem to crave.

Where are you located, I'm sure there'll be a DNA owner around.

All of the above is just for information, the engine upgrade can be done at any time if at all.
regards
D

welcome Mark. Lovely to see another build going on. as the guys have said, ask question when you need and we'll all be around to help. have you got any pictures of the dash as it is at the moment. If i were you, i'd probably leave it as it is. If it is a genuine ferrari dash then a) it will looks tons better than the mr2 one b) it will have been cut up a bit to fit the mr2 so your only market is mr2 replica people. are you really going to get that much for it? if you are planning on keeping the car a long time then leave it in there i'd say. i'd defintiely think about it before you start ripping it out!

Hi Paul

thanks for the welcome. The dash is a genuine 360 modena and NOT in the car (in my living room as friends cant believe it!!!) Its all there, top in black with red stitching and cream below, even have the glove box and air bag cover. Spoke to a few people on the phone and all said its worth a fair bit of money. I really hope it is otherwise i will be crying in the corner haha. I will post a few pics of the dash so you can see.

Hi Dangerrous

engine upgrades sounds good and your info is great as i did wonder what you could do. I will more than likely go for a stainless steel exhaust as like you said will look better. I would like to keep the engine but do as many upgrades as possible, of course without overdoing it. I'm in Milton Keynes and would be great if any DNA owners are local.

Hi Ian

Thank you for the offer and yes would like to take you up on it. Bit of a bad day here. Took the existing kit off and found a bad repair to the passengers side inner wing. Also the main bars that connect to the bulkhead have a gap. Im not too good at explaining or the correct part names so please bear with me. I now realise I should of not purchased the car and I do hope this is not the end of the car.

I've never noticed that area as a potential corrosion point, so my guess is that it's been in an accident, your log book should say if it has, or a vin check will clarify.
There are several options
1) if the car is true and straight, get the chassis runners rewelded to the car, preferably seamed.
2) put the car on a jig and lasered true, this will enable the technician to clear the car in an engineer's report and they can weld where necessary.
3) Forget you saw it. (not really an option)

If you go for the laser option don't go to franchised garages, a good reputable independent repair specialist will be able to repair it at a minimal cost to you.
 Hope this helps.

Hi D

Yes you are right its has a knock on the passenger side with a poor repair. Log book says C. The radiator plate looks ok but the front reinforcement bar is very damaged so will have to get another and look at how to connect to the front securely. As the car had a kit on it all this was covered up. My mistake and only to blame for buying it. I know I should have bought a straight car and start from scratch. I want to do that but I cant afford to scrap this car and start again. At least you think these chassis runners can be rewelded I feel a little better so will ask around if anyone knows who can weld these up. The car has gone through 3 mots and passed as it is but I just dont want to spend a lot of money on the new kit etc only to find the car is unsafe.

The old kit is now off including the original doors. Going to buy some and start again.
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: Darren on February 15, 2015, 04:51:25 PM
The 360 DNA kit was specifically designed to accommodate cat D (panel damage not structural) cars. The 360 kit fits slightly differently when compared to the 430, the door skins are manufactured with a lot of tolerance in mind, so don't get rid of the doors just yet. Roland and Brian will go through this with you when you go and see them.

The one thing you must do is get the car straight, all the mounting points of the kit are adjustable, but these adjustments are for shut lines etc... Get the car put on a jig, even if it costs £500 (£250 per day is typical). The extra work to fit the kit and paint it will cost you in the long run if you don't.
Sorry you've bought hassle, but it seems repairable

Always get a second opinion, especially someone who can actually inspect the damage

Hi

Thank you for your advice and help, feel a lot better, really appreciate it. I can sleep no knowing its repairable, extra money but thats fine.  I have friend of a friend popping over on Wednesday to take a look and did not seem like an issue as well on the phone when describing the welds. I have seen on ebay a front section £75:00 from an undamaged car so could get that and cut away the bad repair so all looks like new.
The existing doors have the kit on and badly done so will be easier to start with fresh ones.

Thanks again

Hi guys

Well I have totally stripped the car right down to the shell. Glad I did as the floor pan was twisted and there had been an electrical fire in the passenger footwell. I have sold a lot of parts, the bodykit sold as well. The leather seats went really quick. So I'm only holding onto the parts that I need for the new build. Yes even after this gutting experience I am still going ahead with a new build. But heres where I need some advice!!!
1: do I buy a car with say 80k 2002/2003 WITHOUT any damage and swap the engine for a 190bhp or get a 2005/2006 mint straight car and do the same. I just thought it would be better with a newer car, I want it to be as new under the bonnet, boot etc etc.

Your advice is important as I don't want to get screwed over again. I'm down 3k but have now put that behind me. But at least now I know my wat round an mr2, dropping the engine was so easy. Also seeing how the roof is attached. And it even answered my questions regarding the dash conversion. If I get enough work in this month I might be able to stretch to the V6 engine swap. So older car or newer car?

Hi buddy

In my opinion buddy I'd buy a good late model car and just sell what you don't need and in your mind and in reality you will have a great base car.then you can clean and paint everything you need to knowing its straight and not twisted.

We've all been there at some point buddy put it behind you and remember what you will have when it's done.a great looking straight car.

Mr2s are not as dear as they used to be so some good bargains out there.
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on March 01, 2015, 10:43:19 AM
Thanks for that :)

I have seen a car which is quite local, 05 plate, black, 40k with service history, looks immaculate. £4550. Thought about a black car so the engine bay etc is the colour I want. I'm going to get the kit sprayed red as think the best colour for a 360. Now I know how much needs to be removed and sell it's not as daunting getting your head around stripping a fully perfect car. I have genuine ferrari 360 wheels, rear lights, suspension kit (adjustable coil overs) and wheel spacers from the other car so I would think after 3 weeks I would be ready for the new kit to arrive. Still have a fair bit of the old car to sell which I hope will shift soon!. And now stripped the chassis is being collected by the scrapyard later this week.
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: Darren on March 01, 2015, 12:44:48 PM
Hopefully you may have noticed that the older Mr2's suffer from a lot of surface rust on the suspension parts etc... Lee has had all of those parts recoated. When I was looking for a donor, there seemed to be a definite point in the mr2 mk3 generation that Toyota changed their protection coatings of these parts and the facelift models still look good under the skin.
I have an early model but it was exactly what I wanted- untouched and original with no damage and only 60,000miles, but the panels had trolley damage. It was also very cheap because of the knackered engine.
Don't buy a 'cat' rated car, future buyers will always wonder what the kit is hiding
Buy the best you can afford, age is not the most important, low mileage will reap benefits. Also look at the parts you'll be keeping, namely the underside of the body.
The Ferrari's are black under the trunk and bonnet, so a black donor is a step forward, these thing help with the build as it progresses.
If you are looking at an engine conversion have a look out for the ceramic damaged engines, these are cheap and save money on something you'll end up throwing away.

Thanks for the info, do appreciate it. Yes think this is the car I'm going for. And as a low mileage car I have the option of either keeping this engine or selling it on for good money if I go for the upgraded engine. Still in two minds about engine. Either 190bhp or the V6. All down to cost. Also would like to find someone or a company local to me who can do the engine upgrade. I'm fine prepping the bay ready but don't have enough knowledge for the fitting. Also is upgrading the discs to grooved drilled enough to make a difference or are there other options?.

Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: Darren on March 01, 2015, 02:38:19 PM
Brakes are designed for braking weight, this has nothing to do with the engine, the dna kit hides the original discs, so red stuff pads will increase the braking power at the expense of the discs and pads, don't bother with cross drilled or slotted.
Engine mods are carried out by woodsport, they're busy for one reason, they almost carry out OEM conversions. I'm sure the converted will chop in and explain the pros and cons. I've done my own at some expense but it's taken hundred of hrs to do.

Give the guys on two brutal a chance to chip in about the engine choices, some have good reliable upgrades to the vvti easily surpassing the 200bhp mark

Hi I have a V6 in mine which was carried out by Paul at Woodsport and I don't think there is anyone more qualified. He always recommends buying a donor vehicle so that you can hear the engine running. Mine was from a Lexus RX300 so remember to build in the cost of the donor and the actual work by Woodsport. The V6 gives amazing power and great torque so you don't have to push it hard to really get a move on. Its really economical too I get high 30`s to the gallon. With the V6 I did put big brakes on the front 335mm with 4 pot aluminium calliper. You know what they say if you have a lot of "go" you need a lot of "Whoa"....and they certainly stop mine on its nose!!. I think you have the coil overs so that's good. I think upgrading the existing engine will be a cheaper option.
Title: Re: New 360 build

Hi guys

Well I have bought a straight car this time!!!!. Untouched 05 plate 40k on clock service history and NO damage past or present. Immaculate in and out. Decided after reading the replies which I do appreciate that I will stick with (for now anyway) the  existing engine and just do upgrades as this car was not cheap. So I hope to start to strip it down next weekend. I have looked on you tube of DNA prepping a car ready for the kit but my question is although they show you where to cut etc is there a manual/written instructions of how to do this?. I want to have the next three weeks to prep the car before ordering the 360 kit from Brian. Just want to get it right first time.

Managed to sell the old kit and other bits ie leather seats went so fast. More bits to sell but at least it's going. The old chassis gets picked up on Thursday to be scrapped and then finally that horrible experience is literally dead!

I dropped the engine last week with the help of a mechanic and he said it's a good one and looks like original 32k Mileage. I'm selling this so if anyone is interested let me know. Gearbox, starter, alternator all included.

Mark

Mark, I will email you a pdf file that i found a while ago (I can't remember where) but it talks about a few things on how to prepare the bodywork. Thing is I don't know if it is for the 360 or 430. You'll have to ask DNA about that, but I think all the other bits that I removed on my 430 would apply to the 360 as well. So basically you take all panels off except for the doors.  Have a look at the you tube videos that DNA made as well for the 430 and I think these would also be relevant for the 360.  These are posted on the forum. But I would advise, before you cut any metal - i.e. do things that are not reversible,  you speak to DNA. Unbolting bumpers, wings etc.. is easy to reverse. Cutting doors isn't LOL.  MADMAN and Tenpin can advise on the doors as they have built 360s as well.

I can understand your desire to prepare the car for the kit, but if you do the work in the videos, then alot of the prep work is done. DNA will show you any extra work that needs to be carried out before fitting the kit i.e. washer fluid neck, petrol filler neck, wiring, moving bonnet shut catch, wiper mount spacings etc.....

that's what I wanted to find out and exact measurements for the doors, top of pillars and front and rear bars. I didn't know about the washer bottle or the wipers. As I have an old MR2 dash here and an original 360 one I was looking to mock one up. Has anyone made a replica dash? or is there a mould out there already to purchase?. Also the image attached is the adjustable coil overs I have from the previous kit. Do you know if these are ok for the build?. They are TEIN super street

I have some pics I took at DNA HQ when I built mine, they were vague but may help I will sort them out Monday.
From memory I,m sure the cutting of door tops is the same as the 430 the main difference is you have to space the door out to match front wing and rear quater aprox 10mm

Hi Guys

Well the new car is stripped of all rhe panels and checked over for any rust but it is immaculate!, not one spot. Mind you the house is full of panels haha. All in amazing condition so listing them tonight on ebay. Along with lights, electric aerial etc. So now i think i am ready to measure up to cut the doors. I am planning to order the kit next week so will be first visit to DNA and meet Brian.

Is there anything else i need to get ready before it arrives as i have at the moment a fair bit of time off work so want to make the most of it. I have attached pics of what I have done.

She looks lovely Mark. There's still plenty you could do. The big centre exhaust shield can come off aswell as those 2 thin bars in front of it. I would also remove wings mirrors, and strip out all the interior including carpets. Interior door trims etc. take photos as you take the bits out and pack away safely for later. The plastic trim around the frunk can come off, wipers, scuttle cover. When your doing body work there gonna be dust everywhere so you want to protect all these bits so better to have out the way. You could probably even bang the arches back a bit aswell to ensure you've got wheel clearance at the front although I recall someone saying there is less arch modifying needed on the 360 as the wheels are 18s not 19s as on the 430. Ring dna to see if you need to trim the rear bumper bars. I'm sure you do but better to check unless someone here can advise? Take the window glass out before you trim the door tops aswell.

Paul said :"Take the window glass out before you trim the door tops aswell. " hahaha good advise, I was just messing with my door cards a couple of weeks ago and decided I needed to trim the tops of the door just a little more....slipped with the grinder and now have some nice marks in my door glass :-(...luckily however, I have purchased a replacement door for the green machine but never got round to fitting it and when it came it have the glasss still in it!, just need to swap it over now..

Furrari: kind of, its still sat on my drive to be used as a reference for when I come to reassemble the interior (after 2.5 years, forgot what goes where!)

It still wont start but I havent had chance to look at it yet, I suspect a fuel line blockage....

Just removed the exhaust shield and bars, wing mirrors ( can I sell these or do I need to keep them for the electrics?) wipers, door glass, interior, scuttle cover and boot liner all removed. Maybe I should slow down!.

I have 360 rear lights already from the previous kit. What lights do I need to keep? Front or back or both?.

Also cleaned arches so going to fit lowering kit tomorrow.

One question is the leather seats are heated. Do you reuse/recover these seats or do you fit different seats? Just so I know weather to sell these now?

The front bar looks a lot thinner on this car than the previous car so will ask about cutting it.

No it's the rear bumper bar you cut. Not the front one. On the 430 u just trim the ends off as they get in the way of the exhaust pipes coming down and then out the back. Have a look on the DNA videos in the 430 section. And def call them anyways. You'll need the wing mirror motors to tilt the mirror glass so just keep all bits to the wing mirrors for now. Seats. I just recovered mine in new leather. They aren't heated but some people change the shape of the tops of them to make them more ferrari like. If you are going for a different colour interior and/or new tops of the seat shape it maybe better to get a tatty second hand set of seats and recover and change those as opposed to destroying a nice set of black heated mr2 ones that are in good condition. Does that make sense?

Post by: tenpin on March 23, 2015, 12:53:23 PM
You need to re-use the electrics from the door mirrors. I had my seats re-trimmed and at the same time fitted heater pads, so I guess the choice is yours - keep and re-trim or get replacements.

As for lights, if you've got genuine OEM lights then that's what you need (otherwise they come in the kit). The front lights - you make them up onto a fibreglass tray which comes in the kit, so anything existing may not fit.

I'd say keep most bits until you've actually got the kit, then you can really find out exactly what you need, but do talk to DNA as they can advise...

I don't think they ever did a replica dash for the 360. So if u want to go down the DNA route you'll have to have a 430 dash kit like I'm doing. Or there are alternatives like V8 KLR has done. You could make your own vents. Or you could go one further and remove the lower part of the mr2 dash (where the ash tray and radio is) and make it more ferrari like. The dash will need strengthening somehow if you do this as you are removing 2 main supporting legs but if your twiddling your thumbs whilst waiting for the kit you could attempt it. I would def do all the mechanical suspension and wheel spacer stuff before to add the kit as makes it a lot easier as the kit get in the way. I took this route. Especially if you need to bang the arches back a little. You don't want the kit on when youre doing that.

Also there was another piece of mr2 metal that I found got in the way and it is circled here in picture below. This is Cheets car and I put the picture on his thread ages ago. I found these bits that stick out got in the way of the exhaust pipes so I cut mine off. Unfortunately I had my kit bonded on so it was a right bitch. Maybe try the kit first to ensure they are not needed but I can't imagine so. I think the mr2 wings attach to them. Maybe put a label on them now that says 'cut off before bonding' so you don't forget to do it.

Fantastic, thanks Paul. :)

I will tag them tomorrow when it's still fresh in my mind. When I took out the dash from the first car I kept the dash and vent pipes so I am going to have a go at making one. I have not sold the original 360 dash yet so can use that as reference. Going to purchase mini vents x 5 and see how I get on. I also have an original 360 alloy heater and radio surround so this will keep me busy. Glad I took your advise and labelled every cable up as can see will be a big help later down the line. I also have a 360 centre console so can have a fiddle fitting this.

The past week has been really enjoyable, so much that I have subbed more work out so I can be in the garage. Happy as a pig in ****! ;D

I made a 360 dash from foamlux easy formed when heated to cover dash, then I used some plastic fall pipe to make the vent housings filling the surround and shaping it then fitted mini vents. I think I still have one in garage, I will check tomorrow and post pic

Hi Guys

fitted the lowering shocks and I have removed the front and back roll bars ready for the powder coaters tomorrow. Also ordered poly bushes for the bars and new drop link bars. If I have time this week i will get all the suspension bars powder coated as well. I aim to cut the doors at the weekend. Both glasses have been removed as mentioned. Only problem I have come across so far are the 4 bolts on the roof securing bars on the top of the windscreen had rounded off. I drilled the heads off and managed to get one bolt out but the other 3 are in there very tight. They have lock tight on (blue). Do think I have to drill these out carefully. Not easy drilling upside down!

A few (more) questions and advice needed:

I have the TTE twin exhaust fitted to the donor car. Do you need any of the exhaust for the build? If not its another thing I can sell. Going to order the stainless steel manifold this week so just want to make sure what to order/sell. Im going to get the new exhaust from DNA later down the line. Pics show what I have and also what im going to order.

Hi Mark. I too had that twin exhaust on my mr2 donor. No you don't need it.  I sold mine. They fetch good money. The DNA kit will come with a new silencer and pipes and  tailpipes. Check with DNA what they supply but it should be no different to the 430 exhaust setup just different tailpipes.

Picked up the anti roll bars from the powder coaters along with the brackets. And parcels arrived with new drop links and poly bushes so that will keep me busy fitting over Easter as well as the door cutting. I'm getting the rest of the suspension bars powder coated as I have the time.

Off to see Brian tomorrow to pay for the kit and hopefully pick up the exhaust as I believe this needs fitting before the kit so the pipes are in the correct position and line up

Well thats the kit ordered and Brian said it will be ready for collection before Stoneleigh!!!. So a good few weeks earlier than I had thought. Thanks for the comments and advice everyone. BUT need a bit more to keep me going. I have for several hours been going through threads trying to find out how much to cut off the rear beam but cant see it. Anyone able to help or point me to the right thread???. Spoke to Brian about a few things but he said you guys remember a lot more.

Also can the rear quarter side air intakes be removed or leave on?
fuel pipe before fitting kit or after?
front bonnet latch removal

Im sure all these questions are in the threads but bit lost on what to do and not to do

well thats the car all cut, doors and pillars etc. Also primered. Just the arch folds on Saturday to do. I did have one problem, when removing the roof securing locking bars on the top of the windscreen, the hex bolt heads had rounded so had no option but to drill the heads off. Then try and drill out the thread, however the nut inside the windscreen pillar is only secured to a small piece of metal. So drilling upside down it eventually broke off. I made a bracket and welded two nuts to it and with a piece of string I fed it along where the interior light sits. Then just two new hex bolts and job done.

I got the centre console back from being welded and started to fit to the car. I have cut down the original console to gain the correct height. I am going to fabricate the rear section in alloy to the same height as the original with the tray on the top.

Playing around at the moment to fit the switches in. I am going to keep the heated seats so these switches are to the side of the handbrake. Mirror and hazard controls to the front and I aim to fit the lighter in the centre. For charging only!!! NO SMOKING

Just waiting for contact from Brian regarding the front suspension and as soon as I can collect I would like to get this fitted before the kit arrives in a few weeks

It goes without saying that your build is looking great........just one small question, away from the actual build though.....is that a Karcher vacuum cleaner, it looks the biz....is it any good? :-\

Always interested in trying to amass the best tools, by recommendation,  before I start my build. ;)

Same goes for anyone else on the forum who has bought equipment that has proved invaluable during their builds....like the B&D belt file that's now on my shopping list.....I would really like to know, I like quality tools.

If there is enough interest I might start a new thread on the best tools to set yourself up with before a build....might be really useful to all of us who have some time to prepare while we save up in the old bank of piggy. ::)

All part of the 5 p's, as my old Chief used to say; Prior planning, Prevents P*ss Poor Performance...and he was right! ;D

Yesterday managed to bash the inner arch seams back. I was dreading this bit as i read so many stories on here. I used a sledge hammer and was surprised after a good few whacks the seam was folded. I only have to fold as its the 360 and  have 18" wheels. Then under sealed both sides. I am going to clean up the callipers on the car but I do have a full set from the old car so a lot later in the year I aim to get these cleaned and powder coated. Then moved onto the rear and fitted the spacers and wheels to both sides, just the adjustable suspension to sort out as its in its lowest setting and VERY low.

Hoping to collect the front spacers etc from Brian on Wednesday so by the weekend all wheels will be on and levelled up. Been looking at so many items on eBay and hours later still cant decide on which bits to get so im going to wait until the show and look up there at the stalls.

Picked up the front wishbones, ball joints and spacers yesterday from Brian. Today found that one of the ball joints would not fit in the wishbone as one of the studs were angled inwards. We managed to pop it out and realign. Then found that the ball joints were different!!! :-[ so can't fit these now. So this weekend I'm stripping the hubs down to give a good clean and paint up.

Can you guys confirm the following:

When fitting the wishbones which way up do they go? Tie rod hole large on the top or smaller? Both Paul and myself think larger on top.

Well didn't get much done on the suspension or hubs this weekend as missing parts. Also the spacers need changing as will not fit the 360 wheels :'( So I cant put all the repainted hubs back togeether as it will be a hell of a lot easier to fit the spacers before fitting back on the car. But at least everything is repainted in black gloss ready for when the parts arrive.

ADVISE AND HELP NEEDED PLEASE

I have TEIN adjustable suspension fitted and as i was working on the front suspension i fitted the lowering bracket supplied by DNA. First problem they will not line up to the holes :'(. The brackets hit a small lip on the leg. So after a bit of head scratching I decided to cut a small groove in the bracket. Brilliant that worked :). Then put the bolts through including the spacer's provided and tightened up. Problem!!!. The bolts are not long enough to hit the nylon thread. So I carried on and offered up the hub to the bracket and as you can see there is a gap either side once fitted into the bracket.

After a lot of head scratching I have found that the original MR2 shocks are single thickness metal for the bracket holes while on the TEIN they are double skin. So i will have to get longer bolts so they go through the nylon thread. But can i just fit washers inside this gap? one either side top and bottom? The washer would have to be as thick as the one welded inside the DNA bracket. Has anyone else come across this?

Hi Mark yes I am sure others have hit this problem and fitted washers to take up the gap. Try searching using "coilovers" in the search bar as I have definitely read about it and was told that I may need washers for the problem you have encountered. I think Lord Beany and Rudy both came across this. I fitted D2 Racing but didn't have this problem they have made the strut fixing plate thicker. I am sure others will reply to help you...

Saw Brian today and as everyone has said before he could not be more helpful, brilliant service, even helped me out with the longer bolts for the suspension I needed. Thank you Brian. So hopefully spacers and ball joints will be ready to collect on Friday. Ordered 3mm washers online to take up the gap on the brackets as well. Has anyone else found 14mm bolts/washers difficult to find in local shops. Also a friend who has a garage ordered me a set of track rod ends and......wrong ones, same as lee received. So ordered again this time blue print. So not much to do this week until parts arrive but as I have the week off night start etching the panels.

Title: Re: New 360 build

all collected and back home in the garage by lunch. Couldn't wait any longer to fit all the parts. The new ball joints are a lot better but needed a little modifying to fit the wishbones. There were two options, cut a section off the wishbone (didn't really want to do that) or file off the metal on the ball joint. The new joint has a curve on the left where the right side has a 90 degree bend. Thiecurve hits the wishbone and does not sit flush. So filed away and fits perfect. Then onto the discs and spacers, new tie rods and track rod ends. All went together really well. So tomorrow just got to finish the passenger side and then the car is back on 4 wheels. Going to clean and paint the rear hubs and fit new discs as I have the time next week. Feels like im getting somewhere now and know the kit is not far from being ready to collect ;D

If you use handed or non handed doesn't that move the ball joint position forwards or backwards and doesn't that effect the castor angle on one side?
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: Lee22 on May 01, 2015, 01:50:05 PM
This was one of the reasons Mick why I returned my FAI ones, and asked the factor to find a supplier that did the same ball joints, but not handed...  Therefore they got me set of 'First Line' ones, which looked 100% identical to the ones I took off the car.

Plus I didn't want to angle grind into the casting...

as some of you know I got an origional 360 dash board with my first car and after several months trying to sell it (crazy offers of "give you 100 guid mate) i decided to keep it. I had a week down at a friends workshop and with all of them saying i should fit it to the car i took the plunge!!!!. With beads of sweat and the dremel in hand i started to cut. No turning back now!!. I wanted to keep the windscreen vents of the MR2 dash so that all the heating/cooling works as it should. The 360 windscreen vents are completely different in shape. The dash was easy to cut and mold into the shape I was trying to achieve. Then it was back to the garage to fit it to the car to ensure the cluster was in the right position etc. It took some time but eventually got it to sit right.

The 360 dash came with the fixing cage which bolts the top part of the dash to the lower and to the chassis. After cutting it down to the right width i bolted it in. I was very surprised that very little modification was needed. I have been able to bolt the cage to the horizontal bar and to several original MR2 fixing points (8 in total). Its in there solid, and i mean solid!!!!. Then the lower dash section bolts to the cage at 8 points so strengthens it even more. I cut down the glove box to fit and being honest the box is small. Enough to hold say....a pair of gloves!. This is because the MR2 fuse box is located here. Not bothered i don't wear gloves ;D

Also managed to get hold of a 360 cluster at a silly price and 3 original vents are on their way, just 2 more to locate. Of course the dash will be re-leathered at a later date and the dash does need more work but i need to wait till i fit the door cards to make sure it all lines up.

Went to DNA yesterday and collected the kit!!. :) :) :) Brian as usual very helpful. Few bits left to collect at the end of the month but plenty to get on with. Got back home and placed the rear onto the car, but, looks like i have to cut the lips on the  skirts and door pillars. I have for several hours scrolled through the forum but cant see if others had the lips removed before collecting or they have cut them off. Can any of you guys help???

Know i need to cut out for the grills, lights and petrol cap which I hope to do at the weekend.

On Wednesday the car was collected and shipped up to sha. And i had only spoken to him the afternoon before!!!. Once collected I followed to go through the works with sha and to see his set up. I was very impressed and the knowledge sha has is amazing. The kit is being bonded, wheels refurbished, tyres, wheel spacers milled down so wheels sit in the arches and full exhaust. Also decided on the style of the seats. There are some great cars in thee garage and mine is now opposite Georgeloonys by the spray booth. So were are hoping for the kit to be completed in the next few weeks, Then the car returns to me to finish the interior and other bits before going back to sha to be painted, roof fitting and leather interior.
Heres a few pics of the car at Sha garage

As im waiting for the kit to be fitted (looks like all is going ok at Sha's,  few delays on parts but nothing serious) I have been working on the discs and callipers. Nothing new here as I have copied from other owners threads, the Bible and advice from Paul (thanks Paul....again). Also sanded and drilled the discs and sprayed them up. These discs are for 19" wheels which I have purchased from DNA along with a set of spacers front and back. I still plan to keep the 360 wheels and will make some discs to fit as these wont work with the 360 wheels

Also collected the hood and engine cover from DNA.  :)

I sanded out the sections on the engine cover ready to fit mesh underneath but was not really happy with it so with a bit of egging on (you know who you are!) i removed the sides. Then added alloy sides to keep the correct length. At this stage I was in two minds weather to go the whole hog or this was far enough.

Well that was yesterday and today woke up sun shining and jigsaw in hand I started chopping.  Maf sensors and pipe work bought on ebay and due early next week and can then start fitting it all back together before painting.

so the mafs (ford ones to look like throttle bodies) and pipes arrived. all from ebay and started to fit together, after rummaging around in the vans i found that standard downpipe slides into the mafs right down to the rear section, and also looks like the ferrari mafs!. But then thinking about it i wondered if i could get original Ferrari mafs as it was going to be a lot of work to make the downpipe look real.

So......after hunting around on the computer i found out that 430 mafs are expensive. Way too much just for a fake engine. Then looked at the 360 mafs and there is not much difference. I found the product code 0280218012 and found that not only is this maf is for a Ferrari BUT also for Honda Accord, Rover MG ZR ZS. And the best bit only £25 each! Once they arrived i removed the sensor and cut the end off as the maf body slides over the downpipe a treat.

Then added alloy side bars to the frame to strengthen it all up. Yesterday was a day at the scrapyard hunting around for cables and loom connectors for the mafs. I found it really difficult to find ferrari ones online. However Vauxhall Corsa maf connectors fit ;D ;D ;D A carrier bag full of cables, clips, bottles and brackets for £8 :)

Title: Re: New 360 build

Hi Cheets

Ok here goes on the bits I used. All the following parts were from 2 cars at the scrapyard. A corsa and a bmw compact. From the corsa i just cut the engine loom off so I had the maf electrical connector and enough cable attached to run along and underneath the Ford maf. The corsa maf connectors fit the 360 mafs perfectly and close enough to the original (for a couple of quid not complaining). Corsa's obviously only have one maf so I took the second off another corsa. The flexible pipes are from the bmw and are just cable protectors. They are about 1 metre in length so I just cut them from the car and pulled out the wires. These protectors are really flexible so easy to get the shape you want. The other pipe work is just normal fuel pipe I got from the motor factors and i used this on the coolant tank lid as well. On the oil bottle I drilled straight through and fitted a 5mm alloy bar and then fitted  some more tubing to either side. This is just a length from each of the corsa's which I think is breather pipe (ridged plastic). On the coolant lid I used some more of the fuel pipe. To be honest I stripped loads out of the two cars filled a carrier bag and see what worked when I got back.

If you go down the scrapyard route just remember to get 2 of everything so it all matches either side.

The chrome mafs are from a Ford Puma and so are the induction pipes, just cut down to fit. I cant take any credit as Paul explained what he used so I copied, just changed it slightly. On the rubber induction pipes I just made a 5mm hole and fitted a plastic bit x 2 I found at the scrapyard. And then added a pipe to make it look more original. Will put some more pics up as probably easier to see.

the cars back ;D ;D ;D

Arrived from sha's early Friday morning. So the kit is now bonded, door cards dry fitted to see if the 360 glove box misses the card, and they do thank god. Spent the next few days cleaning (know its going to get dusty again but could not work with it like that) and worked on the number plate lights and flip up plate surround (thank you Paul for these). Then worked on the scuttle and trunk cover. Very strange having the car back as was only to be away for 3 weeks but turned into 3 months. Still getting my head around everything I need to do. I fitted one of the new 19" wheels to the car but tbh I personally don't think they suit a 360. So im going back to fitting the original 360 wheels I have. Off to see the guys at DNA tomorrow to sort some rear spacers out as I dont have the correct ones for the wheels. Then back to start work on the dash vents.
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on October 06, 2015, 10:04:43 PM
Saw Brian today and really helpful in sorting the new spacers out, within minutes he knew the width required for the new ones. Have added 5mm to the spacer width so the wheels fill the arches a little more. I took the old spacer from my first car up and showed them how heavy they are compared to DNA, must be at least 4 times heaver, just shows how much development went into DNA. The new spacers wont be ready till end of the month but does not hold me up. Worked on the dashboard when I got back making the three middle 360 vents marry up with the mr2 duct. All went ok and now all three 360 vents work and operate correctly so will get heat and ice cold air con. The two outer vents will be easier to work on when the dash is removed when it leaves for painting.

worked on the steering cowling, I used the MR2 one but needed extending in length. I had a spare one so another cut and shut job. Now when the steering rake is used you cannot see any of the dash/cables behind. Also tested the scuttle to make sure it misses the bonnet. I sold the two sets of leather seats long time ago so today I collected a set of fabric ones. I needed them so I could check that the 360 console would fit, and it does ;D Its close (about 5mm gap either side) but at least I can use it.  Tomorrow working on the console base to cover the cabling at the bottom of the dash and start work on the mirrors.

with the rear deck catches the cables sit on top of the fibre glass and the cables are attached behind where the roof is. I wanted to hide these cables as it looked a bit messy so set about making some brackets that would sit inside the engine bay and out of site. This would mean you would only see the catches and nothing else. Also doing it this way I could attach secondary MR2 cables attached to the rear bar and accessed through the flip up number plate like you guys have. I purchased a 360 boot lever and fitted it to the drivers door. Tomorrow I am going to move the floor levers for the petrol flap and second boot lever more towards the rear of the cab as the cables are quite tight.

finished up fitting the deck latches and secondary cables. I had the get the deck brackets lengthened as I needed them to sit back an extra 10mm. So as the deck grills arrived I measured up the deck ready to cut. Going by how Stuart did his deck build, Paul advising and big help from Andy who kindly sent me the measurements I started to cut away. bit scary to start with but as you go it all makes sense. There is a lot of testing the engine in situ and checking the deck does not make contact with the engine. once I was happy with the clearance I fitted the cords. Later this week got the windscreen chap popping over to take measurements and to see the best way to secure the glass to the deck. I'm sure I will chop a bit more off the deck opening once I know where the fixing positions are going to be. It is a bit of make it up as you go but that's the fun of it. :) :) :)

been plodding through the jobs on the list, fitted third brake light, chopped roof so deck can close, fitted brackets to the front bumper grills so they can be unbolted. I also swapped over the shocks back to the MR2 ones with DNA springs to the rear and new front standard springs as I wasn't sure with the adjustable from the old car. So will be selling these soon. I have looked into getting the rear deck perspex but not much luck (more that im being picky and wanted it to look correct). Windscreen guy said it was going to be difficult to cut down a screen as it would need to be toughened. So Paul sent me the link of the original 360 glass for sale. Got me thinking and after numerous texts weighing up the pros and cons and costs and several phone calls to Brian, Paul stepped in to do a deal on the glass as it was for sale very close to where he lives. With the deal done (glass already at Paul's  :)) I have arranged with Brian for him to chop the deck so the original glass will fit, then get it back to me for the metal framework  so the glass can be bonded after paint (car leaving 4th January to Sha) I'm sure im going crazy.......or nuts!!!!  but think it will be great having original glass in the deck.

Off down south to see Paul on Saturday, and of course to see his car, looking forward to it :)

Hi Guys

After some advice if possible, especially from previous 360 builders. I've gone through the build threads and a lot of the images wont show, long time ago believe the forum crashed and pics lost. im trying to fit the door cars and not sure if what I am doing is right. I have lined the inner side up to the top of the dashboard but what i don't understand is how to fit the top edge of the card along the door. I have the two section cards (unlike the 430 cards)  Does the weather strip bond the two together? do you make brackets? how does it secure to the top of the door?. Regarding the weather strips which ones do I need/supplier did you use?. Any images you have would be really helpful. I have found a few images on the build threads but not close up to see what was done.

Can anyone help?

Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: V8 KLR on November 22, 2015, 01:02:10 PM
Hi Mark the top edge of the door card isn't fixed in any way to the original door. The two parts of the door card are just held in situ by the screws around the edge that screw into the original door. The weather strips you gave me go on the inside and you can either bond them to the original door in a straight line along the top of the door or bond them to the door card which kicks up at the end. This method allows the weather strip to follow the contour of the door card. On the outside I have the original OEM rubber weather strip bonded to the door skin. If you do this it might be worth bonding it on after you have had the car sprayed as masking might be a problem. Adding the weather strip on he inside of the car takes up the gap between the door card and the original door/glass .Does that help?

Firstly many thanks to all that have helped/helping answering my questions, it really makes a big difference so thank you :) :) :) I only have a month left before it goes to paint....Gulp

Finally we have sorted the rear spacers for the 360 wheels and today these were fitted along with new tyres (thanks for info Andy) and the car now sits as it should, really pleased. The word spacers is now banned as have had nightmares over them :-X I'm sure I will look back and laugh at it one day.

Received pictures from Brian today of the rear deck mod and it looks fantastic! Cant wait to see it so going to collect it tomorrow morning. I wasn't expecting it back till next week but Brian has turned it around in a week, including the headrest conversion on the seats :) Very impressed and then a call from Brian to explain the mod and what he has done. Fantastic thank you Brian. Still think I was mad doing it but it had to be done (paul im blaming you as well ;D ;D ;D) Here are a few pics

Thought I would post as been asked about the car. It has been at DNA for a few weeks to have some additional works i wanted doing before it leaves for Leeds at the end of the week. Wanted to get these done before paint and didn't trust myself to do them and especially as Brian has done a brilliant job on the deck I wouldn't want to balls it up :)

This weekend im working in Leeds so going to Sha's on Friday to see the car, then Saturday back again to meet George Looney, and then both popping over to Madmans to pick up a set of sills. (maybe more parts you never know ;D) Looking forward to seeing Steve's cars and Aladdins cave :) :) :)

Brian has added holes in the deck under the grills to allow heat to escape. One of many extra jobs I added to the list. The extra work brian has done is awesome. Big thanks to DNA
Then long trip up north to see sha, drop of parts for painting and to go through the works. Good to see sha getting better.

Been thinking about the mirrors for the car for some time and wanted to fit folding ones. Looked at modifying them but after way too much time on eBay managed to pick up one genuine 360 mirror for a really good price. One down one to go  :) Will need a bit of modifying but can be done.

Dropped off the original 360 mirrors for painting. Glad I have chosen to fit them as these cars are wider than I thought :o

Long day yesterday trying to fit up the exhaust system (not supplied by DNA) and it is totally wrong 😡. The flange bolt holes were not central, 430 tips not 360, bends incorrect and box sits so low the pipe bends mean the tips are below grills. Had an exhaust fitter look at it today and he said to start again, so I'm returning the system for a refund.

I have asked DNA if they can supply one and waiting reply but do any of you guys know what box is used or can anyone supply one for the 360? Any advice appreciated

Today worked at the front of the car, lots and lots of cleaning and then fitting back the plastics. I had to change the front crash bar as the facelift bar is too thin for the light carriers. I had bought one months ago and had it powdercoated. Straightforward swap just had to support everything and beefed up the washers from the previous bar.

Tomorrow lots of bonding. Fitting the grills and rear glass 😀

Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on March 29, 2016, 07:26:20 PM
Grills all fitted to the rear and sides, I've used original 360 oil cooler top grills and they are bolted to plastic with I have bonded in. I need to add fans so wanted to be able to blot the pipe work to the grills so nice and secure. Then Prepped the rear deck ready for the glass, left it as the last job of the day to bond in.

DNA done a fantastic job working on the deck so the glass would fit 😀

Hi mark

Spoke to Brian today and have more info to go on. I'm seeing a local company tomorrow who can make a full system in polished stainless steel. And with hanging arms on instead of clamps on the box. Oh and the box stamped with 360 logo. Another mad idea 😂

Looks like I've sorted the exhaust  :D

Local company so car being dropped off for the day on the 18th April. full polished stainless steel, only two clamps that are polished, full pipes from box to tips, correct 360 tips and polished hangers. The box is being built on the day to get the correct sound. All for £450 :D

Decided not to go for the box being stamped as your not really going to see it as its under the fake engine. But there is time for me to change my mind ;D

The company also do engine upgrades etc so no doubt I will be spending more  ::)

Post by: 360MKbuild on April 03, 2016, 10:07:54 PM
Been working on the deck latches and fuel flap. The car came back with the fuel flap closed. I found that it was cable tied closed 🙄. And then found the fuel filler neck wasn't fitted. I found the fuel filler and was shocked to find that it had been cut and welded together so poorly that weld is sticking out inside the pipe, then bonding covering the outside weld, and has several holes in the weld. No wonder I could smell fuel when the car was returned after the kit being fitted last summer (first time around). Also the breather pipe was facing down. So I bought a new filler off eBay to start a fresh.

Also the mr2 cable for the flap was so badly damaged and squashed this went straight in the bin. I again bought a full cable set for the Mondeo.

So I have now fitted this cable. It does 3 actions in one. Pull up on the Mondeo lever opens the fuel flap, push down on the lever releases the passenger deck latch. (Secondary ones also fitted and located on rear bumper bar) also the Mondeo mechanism comes with an emergency release pull. I have managed to keep this and should the cable ever fail I can open the flap with this pull. Might just have to put an access hole in the arch lining.

I cut the new filler neck (read loads on Pauls bible, cheets and Phils, big help). Fitted the earth cable and went to fit. Problem! The extension pipes had not only positioned incorrectly the have been cut too short😡. So back on eBay to order both filler and breather pipes. I positioned the botched pipe through the inner arch as a reference and connected to the neck, however the neck was pointing to the rear of the car, way too much. If I pulled the neck to the correct position the pipe was being bent on the inner arch. So I opened up this hole by a few cm and now the neck sits perfectly straight (thanks Paul for the endless texts👍). I lined the hole so the new pipes won't rub against the arch. Once the new pipes arrive I will connect them as per the build threads. Slowly getting there.

Had a few unexpected free hours this afternoon so fitted the click latches for the pods to hold in their closed position and could test the deck with the roof up for the very first time.  At the weekend attempting to fit the new roof. Lots of reading up beforehand. Going to finish off the fuel pipes in the week as fuel pipes due Wednesday. Fitted the roof deck brackets (thanks for info andy😀)

Great work Mark. Looking at your photos is like looking in the mirror sometimes!

God bless the bible. It just makes me feel really happy it is helping others out there, like the diaries before helped me. I'm glad more people are doing the roof themselves like Phil, Cheets and you as it isn't that difficult at all. Sorry to all the trimmers out there who are losing a bit of business for because of it, but it all helps DNA in the long run as shows that mere mortals like us can build these cars from top to bottom.  ;D

Popped in to see the trimmers, as the dash is part Ferrari and part mr2 they had some questions. The top part of the dash is 90% there. Needs cleaning and stretching in places. It's worked out well as in photo shows the window demister mr2 I've been able to keep, and the Ferrari LED alarm light on the top of the dash. Also the passenger fake airbag cover. Finished off the headlining and roof, just the front bar to fit in the morning, then ghost lights and get it ready for the exhaust fitting, tracking, air filter and possible remap on Wednesday

Not much to add about the roof as its been done before but if you follow Pauls build step by step it really is fantastic and so helpful. Even the note about being careful on the wire fitting, don't know if it was fluke but it fitted first time and nice and tight. only difference is I added the foam to the rear bar as the window was sagging and also on the rear straps to pad it out, found this on nyals build which was a tip from madman I believe.

Today the car left for the day to get the new exhaust fitted, they have done a great job, knew what I wanted to achieve. The box is slightly bigger to get the sound right and all tig welded including the hangers which fit onto the existing rubbers, only two chrome clamps needed either side of the box. Glad I bought the correct tips as well.

I have read on the forum about the attention these cars get BUT I didn't expect it to be constant😂. Like bees round a honey pot! Sat outside in the van and could hear people telling friends in the adjoining units "there's a Ferrari next door!" and all popping in to see, ended up staying there best part of the day with people admiring it and chatting. It's going back there next month for rolling road, remap and for the exhaust to be polished stainless steel.

The air filer cone I have fitted is ok, but not great so thinking of getting the K and N one or injen, unless anyone knows of a better one to get?

I checked my email, I had sent it but it wasn't sent through as a DNA pm, so here you go:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150711331739?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Loads of different temperature ratings available

The demister output is located behind the seat, black is live (rated at
25amps) white/black is neutral, connect both fans to these wires. You now
have manual control via the demister switch.

Next it's time to wire in the 'auto' temperature switch, you need to tap
into the demister switch. This isn't polarity sensitive, hence the two green
wires. You need to join into the pink with blue stripe and two silver rings
for one green wire then into the white with black stripe and two silver
rings for the other green wire (as shown in the pictures).
(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/dangerrous/FILE0252_zpsaa5u2ff2.jpg) (http://s8.photobucket.com/user/dangerrous/media/FILE0252_zpsaa5u2ff2.jpg.html)

(http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/dangerrous/FILE0253_zpswglxzben.jpg) (http://s8.photobucket.com/user/dangerrous/media/FILE0253_zpswglxzben.jpg.html)

The two green wires then run back into the engine bay to the temperature switch located
somewhere to give a meaningful overall engine bay temperature.
You should be good to go

Also picked up the dashboard from the trimmers, few small jobs to do before i refit it so doing a bit each evening. The main one is to connect the MR2 vent ducting to the 360 vents, not difficult just time consuming. Picking up the door cards and roll bar hoops once the dash is in.The trimmers have trimmed everything in genuine Ferrari leather and the stitching in cream to match :o. Not complaining but wondered when they said they had a surprise i was not expecting that, but not complaining :)

Thanks Wayne, yea it's getting near to it, still a few months of work left to do. I've done a good few genuine mods to the car and after changing my mind several times on the style of seats I'm now going with 360 seats, be a shame to have everything inside genuine but not the seats. Mad.....I know I am ;D
If anyone hears of a set going please let me know, I've seen a few sets and waiting for an email on a set that were from a smoke damaged car and torn which would be perfect

finally finished the vent ducting and now all 5 vents are working, just 2 more vents to get. Then fitted the top section and the metal cage, glad it was the final time putting it back in :). The pillar plastics went in fine as i did think it might be a bit tight with the leather but all good. Connected up the top dash LED and tested. I just tapped off the MR2 dash LED. Done a test run on the bottom section of the dash as im waiting for the Ferrari climate controls and window switches to arrive and also waiting for the flocking kit so I can finish the glovebox. Might add some footwell lights, not sure yet. All cabling for the mirrors, lighter and hazard have been extended ready for the centre console.

Thanks steve. I have a console and at the show I bought some of the alloy weld. (You even told me last year to get some ;D) Chap made me do a test piece, all was good. Had a go at home and......what a mess  :-\

It was on a test piece so no damage but if I mess this console up I will definitely call you  :)

fitted the air intake today, thanks Paul79 for the maf body :D. Went on Darren's advice and purchased a Ramair filter, its tight but its in there and not touching the body etc. nice and hidden behind the battery and in line with the cooling fans.

worked a bit more on the dash but if anyone has the wiring manual for the MR2 please let me know as I need to sort a few bits out and would be easier with it. Also the flocking kit arrived so having a go at that tonight.

few hours doing the flocking, well half that was clearing up as it goes everywhere :o. Done the patch repair to the glovebox and all came out ok. Its blended in well just got to leave it 24 hours to dry. Tomorrow will fit to the dashboard

well the flocking works! and will probably do other sections in the car. Took a few attempts to crack it (got to get the glue thickness just right for the flock) but really good stuff. Fitted the glove box back in. There is a section of the cream leather on a corner im not totally happy with but the trimmers are having the car for a few days once all the interior is completed as they want to do any alterations and a full leather clean. No matter how careful you are you always get dirt marks over it. Pulled out the centre console ready for the weekend and also another console (many thanks steve ;D) on its way so I can crack on with that.

Great day today, first a delivery (centre console) from steve, super fast cheers steve :D. Then trip up to Wayne's to drop off the bonnet, z flaps and engine parts. Good to meet Wayne, see the set up and now finally feel happy the paintwork will be done correctly, then on way back popped into DNA for quick chat with the guys. The 250 was outside and looks totally different from pictures and when in the hall at stoneleigh, looks lovely and looking forward to seeing the interior they have planned for it. Fantastic work as always.

worked on the console and switch plate, the console is ready to drop off at the welders this week to finish the rear. I decided last year not to move the handbrake so had to relocate the opening. As the dashboard has been made narrower an original switch plate (beside the driver right of steering) would not fit so started to make one from scratch. Can only fit in two switches (door lock and window lock) and the alarm LED below. The HVAC controls are 90% done.

If anyone has 430, 360 or 355 switches they want to sell, let me know :)

finally finished the hvac controls, been tricky to change from electrical to mechanical, also sorted the lights out. I've wired it so the circulation button is now the air con and the stop button as the engine cooling fans. Not sure I can get the face type changed but if so that will be a winter job. just got to wire in the window buttons at the weekend and hoping to complete the dash within a few weeks.

So the window switches are all wired up, thanks again to Darren for the wiring codes, made life a lot easier :). The Ferrari switches do not have the auto down feature so I have lost this, no big deal really. Then on the switch plate on the drivers side i have decided to use the two MR2 switches with the alarm led below. I may change to original switches at a later date but want to get the dash completed by end of the bank holiday. This means all wiring and the HVAC is done  :D

The last and final job is the stereo. I've changed my mind so many times from flip screen or Ferrari Becker stereo but now sticking to flip screen so I have screen for rear camera, bluetooth etc etc. When it comes to the speakers my minds a blank ??? Think its composite 525 (13cm) speakers with cross overs for the doors, but do I need the crossovers for the tweeters?

Then Im going to have to fit the rear sub in the luggage compartment including amp and what ever else is needed. Im not worried about loosing the space. I cant fit a sub anywhere else, with the dashboard change there's no space and with 360 seats going in there's no space under the seats. So any advice on the best speaker/sub set up and components is need would be great
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: Furrari on May 23, 2016, 09:26:37 AM
I've not looked at a 360 but the 430 lugage compartments get a lot of water in so you may need to protect anything in there from the water.
Plan B is if you can't stop it getting in, make sure it can get out.  I drilled 1/8" holes in all the low lying areas. ( worked on my mini too).

I am a little concerned that you are putting the rest of us to shame.  The standard of work and attention to detail is awesome.
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on May 23, 2016, 05:31:38 PM
Thanks Mick, the 360 has always been a dream so trying to do the best I can. last year I had the mad moment to fit the 360 dash without thinking ahead of all the other parts needed to finish it off ::). I'm glad I did fit it but the cost of all the parts is mind blowing  :o, so not to pass out or have a cardiac arrest  I stopped budget watching a long time ago.

Good idea with the drain holes and will definitely do that. I will raise the amps etc slightly off the bin bases as well just incase. I don't think this car will see much water tbh  ;D
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: Lord Beany on May 25, 2016, 06:20:08 PM
I've never had any water in my luggage compartment, behind the seats.

I still have an amount of the fabric in place that comes from around the factory drain holes; any water that has seeped in has merely been caught by the fabric and run into the drains.

Ensuring you park facing up hill in the rain also helps.

Chris.
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on May 25, 2016, 06:43:21 PM
thanks Chris, yes just checked and have the fabric to both sides and cleaned out the drain plugs just in case  :)

Picked up the short shift today, I dropped it off at the engineers last week to get the shaft milled down thinner and the correct thread size done for the gear knob. I bought a Ferrari 550/575 gear knob as the shift pattern is the same as the MR2. And as Paul79 pointed out to me will need to change this if I go for the V6 conversion. So tonight making the template for the H gate. The door cards, roll hoops and arm rests are ready for collection on Friday.

I have a quick shift in mine, which is great for quick changes, there is hardly any movement in the stick.

I looked at making a gear gate, but when I looked at the throw of the leaver, the whole pattern sat within a 50 pence piece. This was on the standard mr2 centre console height, if that was raised It may be different. I know your console is different, but something to maybe bear in mind with the short shifter though.

Chris.
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on May 25, 2016, 10:57:57 PM
Yes the 360 console is low down (basically sits on the plastic gear holder) so it's exactly like you say the shift is not going to go into the slots. The gate will be more to finish it off. Bit of a shame but can't have it all.
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: MADMAN on May 26, 2016, 09:25:38 AM
I have a quick shift and the gate sits on the plastic gear holder, I shortened the tangs or fingers of the H gate to allow the gear lever to pivot and not go through the gates.

Taken 2 solid days to fit all the bottom dash and cabling but done :D Also fitted the switch platee and switches for the door lock and window lock. This week going to order the stereo and speakers etc.

Made the template for the H gate and started wiring the console. The hazard and lighter are done, just the mirrors to finish off. Everything is taking twice as long as expected but will be worth it in the end.......i hope ;D ;D ;D

Lee, yes around all week so let me know if you can make it, be good to catch up

Thanks Alex, no ive not started the lights yet, tbh not really looking forward to that part of the build. Ive still got to try and sort out the side lights. Steve said to use test tubes and I thought of getting some clear side indicators and sanding down the lens to fit the end of the tube. I did call eurospares but the lens comes as a complete light unit ::). And still need to find how it all goes together completely as a lot of the images on the build threads are missing, I have a rough idea but pictures really do help.

cheers Lee and great to meet you :), Will come up soon to see your car. Lee was the first DNA owner to see the car since I it returned from painting and with me putting it back together, so wanted to know his comments (and to be honest), Lee picked up on the paintwork so at least I know its not just me. Wayne has the bonnet and other bits at the moment but the car will go to him later in the year to see if he can sort the paintwork out, if not then a full respray which I think is needed  >:( At least I know it can be sorted either way.

As im getting close to finishing the dash those little voices were telling me to press the buy it now button on ebay ;D So the below are on their way. Just need to find a steering wheel, then thats it! no more spending on the dash ;D

I didn't want to say about the paintwork Mark, which is why I only mentioned the engine bay and interior... I know it's a sore subject mate..! And I feel for you, I really do...

But be rest assured, once Wayne has waved his magic wand, it will look amazing..!  As you know, mine has got to Wayne's too at some point this year, but I think I'll get some dry day running first before I submit it to Wayne for some touch up work....

You know your welcome to come up any time...... ;D

Can't wait to see yours again with a bit more progress next time too...

Keep up the good work, and keep spending that money...

Started working on the headlights whilst waiting for interior parts, seems to be going ok. Ordered some test tubes and side LED bulbs with holders. Will swap the tubes with original lenses once I have found some. Made a second rear plate to hold the angel eyes securely and fully adjustable. Have made a fitting for the indicators so they can be removed if needed. All parts now stripped down and at the powder coaters and should be back by the weekend.

Also cheers Andy for the speaker info :)

Very nice professional job MK, will you have plenty of room behind the light to get your hands in for adjustment?
I assume you will aim to get in from the frunk rather than via the wheel Arches?

Cheers

Title: Re: New 360 build

Hi alex

All adjustments are from the wheel arch on these cars but made it so the angel eye is adjusted easily, the middle light is adjusted by the three nuts with a screwdriver. Once aligned shouldn't need to adjust that much.

well a good and not so good day today :-[ delivery of the stereo arrived early and could not wait to place it in the dash. Very happy i went with the original stereo and has sat nav (think i need an additional box for it to work but have CD) Tomorrow looking at the wiring as I think I will need to extend the cabling so it clears all the heating controls. When Lee was down I mentioned that with this stereo I wouldn't have a reversing camera, Lee told me whats needed and solved the problem, Wireless camera in the rear view mirror  :)

Then set about fitting the headlights as I built them up last night ready for today. Problem! the clear lenses do not fit in the wing holes :o. Thanks again Steve for calling me so quickly and confirming whats needed. These holes SHOULD of been checked prior to paint ::) Now there's a surprise ::). So yet another job added to Wayne's list and to be honest the wings need repainting anyway. At least found out now and not after Wayne had repainted the car. It seems a bit backwards but I have to build the car (to find all these issues) before passing it to Wayne as there is no way im having it painted three times before I even get to bloody drive it!

Then got on good old ebay and managed to get a 360 steering wheel  ;D ;D ;D

worked on the wiring today (thanks Andy for the info :) ) nothing really exciting but took my time. Ended up reusing the MR2 side light fitting so its easy to remove for bulb changes. I put super seals on all the wiring so once the headlights can be fitted it will be a straight forward job to pop in. The test tube option has worked out better than i thought.

Cheers Wayne, cant wait :D

Today sorted out the steering wheel boss so that all works correctly. (thanks Brian for the heads up on the boss metal) I have had to move the wheel forward 25mm to give a little more clearance as the wheel was a little close to the top of the dash and to be honest looks and feels better in the new position. Also the horns are working so all good. Waiting on a eurospares delivery for all the little washers, bolts and two vents.

Hi mate,
How did you get the splines to fit correctly, or was it compatible?
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on June 21, 2016, 11:03:49 AM
Hi alex

The splines are not the same unfortunately, that would be too easy. What we done was cut the Ferrari spline out of the boss, it looks like it is pressed into the boss but it's not. It's like a hex nut moulded into the boss. Will add pics at the weekend to show. Then we milled down the lip on the rear of Ferrari boss so we had a flat surface. Then cut the mr2 wheel with the same amount of circular metal as the Ferrari one. We were lucky as the mr2 has several threaded m8 bolt holes either side of the spline so we could bolt it to the flat surface of the Ferrari boss. Then bolted at the bottom and in total 5 bolts so very secure. Doing it this way means you still have the indicator cancellation function. We cut the cables off for the airbag, only keeping the horn cable so when turning the wheel the cable runs freely. You can't weld the boss metal as should you ever be in a crash the wheel will buckle so bolting it and bonding it together is the only option. Once done we had it checked by a mechanic and said it is safe.
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on June 28, 2016, 09:34:26 PM
Connected up the stereo, checked that it all powered up and the auto dim works on the side lights and then had a think about the speakers. Started off making up new speaker surrounds and checking the cables. The two cables on the drivers side did not work and after checking realised that the door cabling is not the one off my car before it went off for painting >:( >:( >:(  So yet another balls up to the long list! After removing the cables it was split in the door rubber >:(

So after calming down and checking that the other cables for central locking etc are ok I decided to rewire the complete stereo system as its easier at this stage rather than once it is all built. I've never really had a good system even in the convertibles, so went for it in a big way ;D ;D ;D

Focal PS165 component front speakers with cross overs
SL4 booster converter (as the Ferrari stereo does not have AUX ports so had to re-wire completely)
Rockford Fosgate prime 4 channel amp
Vann Damme aux cables
30 metres  :o shielded speaker cable
Pioneer sub

Im not trying to be 17 again just wanted crisp clear sounds and good with the roof down. I still might add a rear speaker between the seats ( like cheets has done) but have to wait till I fit the seats to see how much space is left. But as it is at the moment the stereo is loud and punches good.  :)

Just finished getting the car ready for it to leave in the morning for Waynes. Exciting as its finally going to get sorted. Had to get the tow eye done as all previous times its been without the front bumper when towed up on the transporters.

Used the original MR2 tow bar and then had a left screw thread nut made and welded to the bar. For the second bar it needed to be quite long so I pinched one out of my VW transporter van ;D Slightly different to the 430 mods you guys have done as only had to be offset slightly. Theres enough space around the bar and grill hole for any flex and its in there solid and locked in. Dont think I will get much sleep pacing up and down waiting for the tranporter to arrive. Its like waiting for christmas day ;D ;D ;D

Although with Wayne doing the work to the headlights, bonnet, z flaps, wing mirrors etc etc it's been agreed that the car does need a full respray >:(. However as I got screwed over I cannot afford to have it done at this time. The plan is to get the car on the road fully built then we know all is correct. And looking at having it resprayed early next year (better ask Wayne to book it in) no matter what it has to be ready for a full summers use next year  ;D

Collected them today and only 20 mins from Waynes so popped in (even though the car was only dropped off on Friday) Wayne has started on the car and amazing work already :D :D :D

As with anything the seats look good in the pics but they do need to be re-trimmed. Not sure weather to do red piping or cream yet. The main thing is the seats are straight and all functions work correctly.

Lees - the underside is fantastic, engine bay and love the wheels. looks the nuts
Madmans - oh those brakes......again :P
Rudys - The interior, cluster and the ID badges are wicked

Not to forget the AMG- unbelievable Rudy :o the interior is mind blowing, i could live in there!

Yes good afternoon, shame I had to shoot off, but I sorted Daughters car and they made it to Manchester airport for 6.30am with plenty of time.
We need to see your 360 there next time, especially with your wing badges recessed (come on Wayne sort them out you know it will look the dogs)

Recessed wing badges are a Ferrari option on current models. Only two and a half grand.  Cheap at twice the price.

Great afternoon
Good to throw some ideas around too

Always a good drive to Rudy's, not too far but long enough to get a good feel for the car.

Thanks for the storage doors Mark, we need to settle up soon mate  :D

Next time though, we need your 360 there and Rudy's out of the garage... ;D

I HAVE NEWS!!!

The Main man from Beemabuild he say YES :D :D :D

However!

Due to the time scale to complete the long list of work I have already put on Wayne there is not enough time, but the main reason is that the car is to be resprayed early next year and dont want to put too much product on the paint now for it to all come off again, and paying for the work twice, also my doors will need to be sprayed if fitted now.

So when the car comes back I will fit the metal replica badges for now. And when its repainted the below babies are being fitted 8) 8), Yep genuine carbon badges ;D

Lee, Wayne didn't say it would be a problem, just needs the badge you want fitting so he can scribe around it (Correct me if I'm wrong Wayne). It sounds like a fair bit of work but it's got to be done seeing as I have the chance now. It will look great so yes will be coming to see yours done first  :)

Be careful as some of the cheap ones the enamel doesn't last long and the curve is different to the DNA wing so spend carefully as they are think they can look a little odd on the wing to if its not seated in it.

A local company were going to make H gates for both Andy and myself but after being messed around numerous times and for months Lee stepped in and said he could sort it. They are now ready and received a pic from Lee earlier and jumped out of my seat!! its amazing :D :D :D

The fixing holes are sunken and the gate curved like the original. Really impressed and now cant wait to try it on the console when the car comes back.

Whilst the cars away I've been hunting for all the last bits needed for the car. I needed two more dash vents and found a complete set of five for sale for £100 :o :o
Bought them there and then and although used they are in fantastic condition.
Work on the car is going good with regular updates from Wayne showing the progress. Although I really miss the car it is definitely in good hands and with the right person.

Engine is next year Andy  :) I've pushed the dam thing more onto transporters than driving it ;D ;D ;D

As soon as it's all built and finished I know I will be itching to get the engine changed. To what I'm not sure yet, few options I've spoken to others about but need more info before I decide. 3.5 does sound good though ;D
Changing the shocks and brakes will be first job which should be in the next few months as we are trying to get a bulk order together on the D2 coilovers set

Ive been getting regular updates from Wayne on the progress on the car over the past 3 weeks and all I can say is the standard of the work is amazing :D :D :D I just wished I had Wayne paint the car first time around as the quality and finish are poles apart, but you live and learn. Im calling the work wayne has done up to date stage 1, with the full respray and sunken badges stage 2 next year.
The wheels are going to be sorted by Wayne next month, dipped and powder coated correctly. So now the below have been done:

Headlights NOW fit  ;D ;D ;D no torches needed
wing mirrors resprayed and fitted
z flaps sprayed and fitted
fake engine parts painted (been a headache for Wayne as aerosols i used reacted with Waynes proper paint, ive banned myself from painting anything)
bonnet repainted in and out - no more pin holes and chips
wings painted
full mop and polish

Roll on Monday, cant wait to get back on track and start building again  ;D

Popped up to Wayne's to collect the engine parts and to look at the car. Also dropped off the metal badges for the wings. Didn't trust myself to fit as have to heat them up to bend to the shape of the wing (the badges are metal replica ones for now). I've started to fit everything back on the engine cover. Done as much as I could on the engine over the weekend, painting cap in silver and just need to fit back in this week. This is a temporary cover as once the car has the engine changed it will be covered with 360 genuine parts. Although the 430 cover has worked out well its not right for the 360.

Thanks mate.  You have posted this at just the right time.  I found a copy of the shield on a 3D site called "Thingiverse". It's only 2.5mm thick and the rest of my text is 4mm.  Now I can see how it sits on the plinth which is then screwed to the cover.

Don't know if I can do the blended shape in the print, if not I've got a file and some filler.

The cars back :D
Too busy with work to do anything on the car till the weekend but itching to fit the headlights now they fit  :D :D :D. Then on to fitting the seats and console. Dropping off the seats in two weeks to be re-trimmed but the hoops and door cards are ready to collect. I had the hoops redone as i wasn't happy with the thickness and the door cards had a few ripples in and the trimmers requested them back.

I've had a good look at all the work Wayne has done and no-one apart from Wayne will be doing any works to the body or paint. The car is now booked in for full respray mid May so straight after Stoneleigh its stripping the car and up to Wayne.
So finally im back on track with the build  :)

Had to try the engine cover first thing as itching to see it in position, need to order allen bolts as slightly changed the fixing to the rear. The glass will be tinted in the near future. Then on to fitting the seats. Ive heard its a B***H of a job and their not kidding!, But think I have sussed it now. Ended up using the runner fixing points off the MR2 runners. Just need to lower the drivers seat. The runner extensions are bolted together and once all sorted these will be welded.

Post by: 360MKbuild on August 14, 2016, 10:03:40 PM
So finished off the seat brackets and next was to check that the centre console fitted as I only tested with the MR2 seats. Thankfully it fits with just a small gap either side 8)
Then checked the H Gate lined up with the console holes and worked through the gears. BIG thanks to Lee again for sorting the gate out :) :) :)

Between the seats I have started to sort the speaker pod out. This will be made in fibreglass so can be trimmed or painted. Will have access at the top to get to the roof lever. Im hoping that it will be able to take the sub but if not then an additional speaker.

Great result and VERY pleased you had good luck with other interior bits...so far at least!

"I hope this mother still fits!" Is something I said more than once while building my 93 Porsche Turbo replica. The great benefit though, is that people who know how to make, can always make things again :)

The way those headrests nestle into the body is beautiful. Did you retrain them or have you located matching trim material for the rest of the interior?
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on August 15, 2016, 12:05:25 AM
Steve

Although the seats are in ok condition I'm having them retrimed. The camera does not pic up the scuffs or cracks. Also the trimmers are fitting heat pads and new seat foam. Just got to decide on the colour of the piping. Cream, red or black. Not sure yet. The console was the last cheek clenching moment for genuine parts to fit. Everything else can be made to fit, although a lot of fiddly bits to do I'm on the home stretch.

And yes used that saying many many many times,  ;D

Post by: seriph on August 15, 2016, 12:31:59 AM
groovy  -  love the cream colour .... I'd be challenged about which colour to choose for piping as well, but would probably opt for red though matching cream would hide any minor stitching imperfections and still look the shizz

I guess in the cooler climes such things are relatively common. Aussie chariots haven't featured heated seats etc until more recently due, I imagine, to globally standardised  manufacturing.

My one-off Buchmann Porsche 928 featured the most advanced Recaro seats made at that time. They had heaters, vibrators and inflatable bladders for lumbar support etc. I bought the car used, and would never have dreamed of spending $6600 on custom made seats but they came with it. I considered them the indulgence of a very wealthy owner until I drove her from melbourne to Brisbane, a trip of 1700 kilometres each way. It is really a wonderful feeling NOT having any stiffness or aches during such a long run.

I know what you mean I have a back problem. I used to have a 430 but sold it because I had problems getting in and out of it.
I've now got a West Coast, Mercedes seats which are fully adjustable heated massaging seats could not go back to a normal seat. I have travelled 260 miles and got out and couldn't believe no aches and pains, anyway have a great time you guys take care.

Went to collect the roll bars today, the trimmers were not happy with the stitching or the amount of foam so asked if i could try it on the car. I did and it looked pants and didn't fit correctly. We removed the leather and foam and looking closer we could not get the bars to line up correctly through the roll bar carrier. We put spacers underneath but then way too high. Only option was to cut the bar in two and see how much wider it needed to be. A 15mm spacer filled the gap and all lined up. The trimmers want a solid thicker bar to work from so a 40mm diameter alloy tube is being bent to shape and bolts welded to the bottom. This way it will let the trimmers get a tight fit on the leather and I will be able to bolt it down nice and tight.

As most of the day was taken up sorting the bars out I fitted one of the 360 discs to the car so i could measure up for the new rear spacers. The inner part of the disc will be milled down to the same thickness as the dna discs. I was never happy with the spacers as the press studs were not long enough. So having a new set made and beefed up a bit. The discs will be lacquered by Wayne to stop any rusting and still using the dna calipers I have.

spent a day last weekend up north with lee and barry, went through all the measurements for the new spacers and milling of the discs  and all good. Then needed to find longer spline studs..................not easy!. Lots and lots of suppliers only do 63mm max. which only leave 5mm pressed into the alloy spacer :o. Numerous incorrect deliveries and phone calls later and finally have found a company who can supply 12 x 1.5 100mm. (thanks Lee for the endless searching, messages and finding the company :D). Not cheap but they are on order and will arrive in two weeks.
Finished off the headlights and they fit ;D ;D ;D. No surprise really as Wayne had done all the work before painting. The car is starting to look like a car now. Fitting the passenger side at the weekend and template making for interior parts and wheel arch liners. Also couldn't find a local company who could roll the correct diameter metal for the roll hoops so ended up doing it myself. Dropped off to the trimmers and due back next week.

Yes Wayne, big sigh of releaf :) bonnet was a right pain. Got it as good as I can, the catch had been cut off first time around when the kit was fitted incorrectly first time around >:( so was difficult to get it to lock. Had to work on the lock mechanism to get the catch inline.

The work you have done to the front of the car is brill, I see what you mean that the lenses and carrier are different curves, by quite a lot. But they are in ;)

Got the hoops back from the trimmers and they are not good, so back to the DNA ones. I have now been able to get them to fit so both are symmetrical. fitted some foam to them and to be honest I think it looks good in black so may go with black leather, but only for the hoops. The foam is 9mm thick but have 6mm on order so there is room for the leather once trimmed.

Finished off the rear arch liner and drivers arch will be dome tomorrow. I've made the arches so they are easy to remove and with rubber D channel fitted against the body side. Collected the door cards and fitted the speaker grills. Just waiting on speaker adaptors and then the doors can be made up.

finished off the arch liners, glad that job is out the way as back breaking and taken a week to do :o Made an access panel for the emergency fuel flap release as well. Just the cover for the underside of the front bumper to do. Fitted the speaker grills to the door cards. Getting the door lever painted in satin black along with a load of other bits by Wayne. Just wanted to get rid of the chrome look on the lever.

Just getting all the bits together ready to fit the cards and ordered speaker protectors as well. Don't know if they are much cop but they were no expensive so worth a try.

Hi MK,

I am doing a 430 build on a peugeot... I am also using an oem dash and cluster etc etc...

Can you explain how you get the guagecluster to function? It would help me a lot!!

Below is a link to my build... I just started..

I can now say I have finally finished and fitted the arch liners ;D I ended up making the front arches in two sections so the bottom section can be removed easily for access to the lights, also I cut out for vents so air can travel over the brakes. Might not make much difference but as i had the mesh thought best to do it now. Also d rubber fitted to the outer edge to minimise rubbing against the body. I picked up the cooling fans from the powdercoaters, rebuilt them and fitted. Also repainted the arches so now everything is blacked out with new bolts/washers.

Final job today was to fit one of the alloy Ferrari caps I picked up last week from Lee to the fuel cap. Straight forward job and finishes it of.

thanks Darren, Wayne

Not a great deal done one the car, more organising new parts and modifications needed for the near future changes to the car. But fitted the weather seals to the doors and started on the door cards. Drivers side done and passenger at the weekend. I have used rivnuts to secure so easily removed. The speaker protectors i purchased fit really well and cover the complete speaker. Mirrors to be fitted (wayne has sorted this, all painted and brackets made) at a later date so I cannot wire in the 360 motors until fitted. Wont be long before the new rear spacers and brake discs are finished which means a visit to Waynes to drop a load of bits off for painting.

Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on October 20, 2016, 11:16:55 PM
Lee was great to see your reaction to what Wayne has achieved  :D The spacers are are being worked on but found out the rear steel spacers were not true and out by a few mm :o. Also they were too tight and pinching when fitted to the hub. The spigot was out (more oval than circle best way to explain it) so these have now been milled correctly. The alloy spacers have been shaped including the inner spigot made deeper to allow for the genuine discs and also enough for the wheel. Next is drilling out for the new press studs. As these are longer will give more thickness in the spacer and a better fixing for the wheel nuts. The genuine discs are in the process of having the bell milled down in thickness. Will all be worth it once completed knowing it's done correctly and when putting more torque through the wheels gives piece of mind it can take it :)

Scuttle now done and ready to fit at the weekend, door cards as well as I found a better solution for fitting the window seals

Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on October 22, 2016, 12:57:25 PM
Scuttle cover in, new wiper arms and blades to finish it off. Had to cut back further for the centre grill to fit. As i have several scuttles I took the rubber from one of them to cover the centre gap along the base of the grill. So externally its only the mirrors to fit to the car. Now back to fitting the interior parts :)

Fitted up the drivers door card, I tried to fit the internal weather seal from car builder solutions but as it kicks up it shows too much at the front of the card when looking through from outside. Ended up fitting a black angle plastic length to the underside of the u channel and then bonding on a felt strip 6mm x 50mm. This then kept the height low, touched the glass the entire length of thee card and as 50mm depth it covers all the window mechanism. Going to fit dynomat but door card has to come off a fair few times as making the tweeter cover, need to fit the mirror cables and fit the door levers (once painted matt black). Now for the passenger side

I can't take the credit for it guys, Lee managed to get the H gate made for me to a near on copy of a genuine one. All I done was supply a template :D
The engraver supplied the artwork and engraved all for £25!
As for the bolts one evening I sat and went through eurospares lists to get all the part numbers for a hell of a lot of nuts, bolts, washers etc. So I have genuine bolts for the h gate and other interior parts. The h gate bolts were only 35p each, the cheapest being three securing washers for the glovebox badge at 8p each ;D
Had to wait four weeks for the order to be complete though, they love me at eurospares  ;D ;D

Dropped off the remaining parts at Wayne's today. Saw Sir Percivals 250. The level of detail Wayne has done to the car is awesome :o Brilliant work

Managed to get left and right hand side genuine tweeter covers. They came with the grill and tweeters however the Ferrari tweeters are pants so im swapping them for the focal ones i have. i was going to fit the covers now but will be better once the mirrors are fitted in the new year. That way I can ensure they line up with the outer mirror cover.

Thinking after the event (as I always do mark..!)
I could have been a good idea to ask Wayne to paint the centre section of the disc in satin black before the lacquer went on...!
Could have made them look a bit more lots Bells...

But wouldn't be standard to the original 360, and I know your doing upmost to get the car perfect to the original car.

Been a few months since updating the build but a hell of a lot of work has and is being done to the car. From front, back, inside and underneath. Received the centre console and interior door handles from Wayne when I was up north today. The centre console paint quality.WOW :P
The colour and finish is unbelievable and the images do not do it justice one single bit. As I said before only Wayne will touch the car for paint and any body work as the standards are so high. Wayne thanks mate :) :) :) very happy

I built the centre console some 18 months ago, cutting and shutting to make it fit correctly to the MR2. The buttons, ashtray and crossed flags are all genuine items, I just had to cut the ashtray down for it all to fit. No issue as it will not be used. Hazard and mirrors are working and so are the two MR2 switches for the heated seats.

Wayne has the wheels for powder coating and will be collecting in the next few weeks, Be great to see them in the correct colour and to get rid of the poor paint on them.

Also collecting the seats next weekend as they have been away to have work done on them. Then the mirrors can be fitted as need the seats in to get the correct angle. As they are genuine mirrors and we need to drill into the door triangle I am leaving this to Wayne, no way do i have the nerve to drill into the car :o. The mirrors were repainted and repaired by Wayne last summer so all ready to go.

I will have very soon lots of new/refurbished parts for sale which will fit both 360 and 430. Will offer them on here before listing on eBay and other sites. Some of the parts have been professionally made to improve the existing.

NO MORE SPACERS  :D :D :D

As some of you know since the new year my car has been with Barry at Marios Motors. I am having extensive work done to the car (never been done before) and as these items are designed/engineered I will update on here. The quality and engineering that has gone into each part is unbelievable. :o

Yes thats right no more spacers needed!!!. Modified hubs and flanges. Made to correct PCD to fit any type of wheel. Kits in various stages will be available soon and only available from Barry.

Also purchased a set of BC (MH) coilovers :P These have the rear pillow ball and adjustment, not cheap but a great bit of kit and seriously needed for whats being fitted!

The new brakes have been ordered for the modified hubs. Gone for a full big brake set up front and back.

330mm drilled discs (to look like genuine 360)
Modified bells 5 stud
6 pot callipers to the front
4 pot callipers to the rear

Doing it this way requires separate handbrake callipers. I have looked at several options, one being willwood spot calliper (not strong enough for the car) jaguar S type R (these are brembo but still pricey). I have managed to get hold of a set of genuine 360/430 handbrake callipers so all will look genuine. They ain't cheap but got this far seems a shame to compromise. Thanks madman for sending images of your set up :)

Yep freaky parts are making the brake setup, bells, discs and adapter bracket. Then another bracket made to hold the handbrake caliper. Madman sent some pics of his which really helped working it out. Handbrake cable info would be great steve although I will need to get them made slightly longer as my hubs are further out as no spacers etc

Yep.  Furrari doors, floor, engine bulkhead and inside the boot done.   If you do the doors don't forget to replace the plastic liner in the door inner or you get lots of draughts.

Excludes lots of Drafts...!!  ::)

It's a soft top car..?!?  So unless your going to drive around with the hood up all the time (NOT)...
I'm sure there is going to be a lot of drafts?? ::)

Hi Rudy, hope your well, yes kits will be available in different stages depending on what you require. It's 99% there just the finishing stages to go. It is jaw dropping the level of engineering that's gone into the development. I can't take any credit for it, I just paid for it ;D. However every kit that will be available is being fitted to my car and it will be at future shows so everyone can see/order. The kits will only be available from Barry. Once completed I will post the details on here as well.

Lee.
I know your car is coddled away from the elements but I use mine in all weather conditions except when there is danger of gritting damaging the gleaming YELLOW paint.  If it's raining I put the roof up and don't like drafts.
Drafts are not the same as 100,000 feet of headroom on a sunny day with the roof down, the wind in your hair, a strident exhaust note and a smile on your face.   Living the dream.

That's ok for some Mick, but I think you will find that Mark's car will be very similar to mine..!

If there is a cloud on the sky (either white or grey) we will both think twice about having the cars out of the garage...

When you have spent so much time / love & money on the underside to make it look better than new and shiny, the last thing you want to be doing is taking the car out in the wet / damp....

So every time the car is out, it will be hood down, wind in the hair ;D

Lots more powder coated parts back and fitted to the car. I wasn't happy with the finish on the dna wishbones so these had the same treatment including new bushes (what a pain these were)  ::) the radiator pipes done in the same silver powder coat as parts in the engine bay. The big brake kit for the rear is due this week (hopefully), cant wait to see them on the car as been a 4 week wait. Then the handbrake bracket can be fabricated.

Post by: 360MKbuild on July 09, 2017, 12:44:44 PM
thanks guys  :) its getting there.

fitted a new air con rad as the original was shot ::) and then had a new alloy radiator commissioned to reduce the heat which will make a massive difference. I did look at the mitsumoto radiators but I needed one which would reduce the heat even more. Its been made to fit to utilise every spare millimetre of space available. We did have to remove 5mm off the top bar so it fitted further towards the air con rad but other than that it fits perfectly. Then fitted the refurbished fans. I dismantled these a few months ago and the best way to clean everything.....the dishwasher ;D. Once all three were fitted back I fitted new silicone hoses to connect all the water pipes. The genuine rubber ones would just not be up for the job over time.

Worked a bit on the brakes, Fitted all bells, rotors and calipers to ensure the clear the running gear and to see how they look with the wheels on. Just got to measure for the braided lines and get these ordered. Wasn't sure on which lettering to use on the calipers so I ordered several different types, still need to decide. Been a long time since the car has all four wheels on but now can crack on with all the other components.

Hi Rudy, yes kits will be available very shortly. I've gone for 330mm rotors, same diameter as genuine 360 discs so it all looks correct. As for calipers I think 4 pot all round is more than enough (that's what they fit to 360 and 430), however the price difference to 6 pot for the fronts it was a no brainier. Also depends on how much you push the car and the type of engine fitted, if I push the car I now have piece of mind it will stop, and quickly. Regarding handling etc have to remember I do not have any spacers on the rear so it's more of a track setup.
So it's best to speak to Barry directly on the numerous kits that will be available, technical info and prices as each car has a different set up.

I think Howsa fitted Toyota supra discs and calipers to his 430, as well as getting them further into the wheel, Steve (Madman)may have more info on this, I don't know how well it all worked.

I've got big brakes on mine (audi A8) and can confirm that the Toyota master cylinder and servo can deliver the necessary fluid and pressure for big calipers. I never noticed the brakes when I was going round the track, the pedal felt very natural, the abs even kicked in a few times when I caught a bit of dirt on the tyres

When up at rudys last year I was drooling over Steve's brakes which made my mind up I wanted a simular set up. Steve's been a big help with advice etc. After many conversations with big brake companies which have supplied roadster customers in the past they too confirmed the servo and master cylinder are more than adequate.

Hi Mark, with the work I've been doing on the dash it's possible to use the mr2 internals by unplugging the dial magnetic coils and fitting them into the F cluster, one thing to bear in mind is the temperature gauge, the chip sends a reverse signal to the coil, I have switched the polarity and it did go the other way BUT I couldn't confirm this worked as required, I'm going to bypass the Toyota ecu feed and use an independent gauge from ebay. (the Audi utilises 2 temperature sensors ecu/cluster :-))
The info smd leds have very low power draw, I've run some 30mA leds and I feel it's too much for the driver, it gets quite hot if the ignition is left on, I may re-engineer a circuit board to use smd leds, You should be able to use the F cluster smd leds by hard wiring them into the Toyota circuit board.
Good luck with the integration, I find this type of work really interesting and quite satisfying.

Post by: 360MKbuild on October 14, 2017, 08:09:51 PM
with the car taking a lot longer than expected i bought another MR2 in July ;D For two reasons but mainly so i could mock up work on specific areas of the car without mine being here. The centre tunnel is now completed and ready for trimmer to carpet it. I wasn't happy with the MR2 handbrake so I have fitted a genuine one with the relevant cabling going back to the handbrake calipers. Barry is working on the brackets for these which aint easy :-\ Mainly because i don't have any spacers on the rear so everything has to fit around the hub carrier without hitting trailing arms etc. Had to buy genuine handbrake pads as the calipers i got off ebay didn't come with the locating pins or springs and you can only get them with genuine. two week wait for them from Italy ::) Shouldn't be too long now before these are up and running. For the past few weeks i have been working on the rear bin area. Now im not bothered about storage space, just trying to make the car look as genuine as possible. Both bins have an access panel, the passenger bin is for the new ECU and the drivers side is for the amp and crossovers. I had looked for ages to get hold of a rear glove box but they are crazy money even if you can get hold of one :o also if i did get one it would need chopping up to fit, so i set about making one from scratch. Not a five minute job but it now fits. The door opens and closes and a click latch used so i can get to the roof pull. I bought a subwoofer last year but way way too big ;D ;D ;D so looking at trying to keep it genuine looking i have fitted a 6.5" JL Audio subwoofer in the below box. It just fits due to the angle and the cubic volume is correct. Managed to purchase the storage nets from a breaker at a good price so made them to fit. The oval slots on either side are for when the roof is up and i can strap it down. Still lots more to do

All the water pipes underneath have been powder coated, nuts and bolts zinc plated and refitted. As we had the time better to do it now so basically everything has been removed and refurbished/replaced from the chassis. Also picked up the brake bells which we had anodised in hard black along with the brake adaptor brackets. Had the new rear hub carriers painted in 2 pack black and had the disk rotors zinc plated as well. The front hubs have been clear coated to protect from rusting. Next week the remaining parts can be fitted and hopefully down on all four wheels.

Hi Mark, nice work on the brakes.
A little heads up on the sway bar, the original Mr2 one is fine for the standard 1.8 car, but a slightly stiffer one will help with handling and body roll. It's just one of those little 'tech tips' the down side is pot holes and rough roads really attack the car when a stiffer sway bar is used.
I've got and Audi a8 front sway bar on the front and a 19mm hex bar on the back (due to the 4.2v8 weight) it's not road tested, but around the track the car has hardly any body roll. I think I've got a couple of youtube vids showing the rear swaybar construction and the obvious track vid where you can see how flat it is around the bends.

Kudos on the attention to detail  :)

Post by: 360MKbuild on December 02, 2017, 09:45:22 PM
Hi Darren, yep your right the standard MR2 sway bar would be no good for the job. This one has been designed by Barry. Its wider as the hub carriers are further out direct to the wheels. The sway bar also has adjustable rose jointed drop links so adjustment is not a problem. I.E. harder/softer. Will pm you.

Today the sway bar was fitted along with the new rear sub-frame, again designed by Barry. its an amazing bit of kit, far more sturdier  than the standard and other attempts out there. Its taken well over a year in the making and the quality, design and engineering is unbelievable. Next week the adjustable rose jointed trailing arms are being fitted. So basically once all is fitted the rear of the car is fully adjustable like a track car. For those interested speak to Barry regarding prices for various kit packages. Also the car will be at Stoneleigh inside the hall. I cant take any credit for all the work that's been done. I only had to decide on the colour and finish of the parts ;D

Then trial fitted the rear bins and panels to ensure gaps are correct to allow for leather before being dropped off to the trimmers.

Another one of Barrys rear braces has now been fabricated for the car, same as Madmans and Lee's, just had to make sure enough clearance for the air induction as mine comes from the front of the engine and up over to the side fan where the battery is located. It was made up on the spare car as easier. Its off to be powder coated on Monday along with the top rings. I'm having the B pillars trimmed so it all keys into the other parts in having done. So ive had the seat belt guides made. These will ensure the leather will not rip and finishes off trim. Will have them anodised once the trimmers have finished with them.

The clutch is now sorted  :D all new pipework connected. The pipes needed to be relocated in the engine bay and adapted to fit the new engine. Barry made new brackets and these along with the securing clips are off to be zinc coated. We cleaned the new pipes and clear coated to protect them. The gear linkage is in progress and hopefully will only be a few weeks.

It’s only a bit of pipe!  Yes but the attention to detail shows the work that goes these recreations.  This level of craftsmanship puts many car manufacturers work to shame.

Wow mark
That’s some serious workmanship gone into that

Just look at those stitch lines and how the leather has no baggyness to it

I dare not ask what you’ve paid for that little job, as I can see from he pictures the leather used is not your box standard everyday cream leather

Even down to the holes in the stitching is just amazing

Well done mate, but not sure how many of us would go to the expense you have done to get this this level of work

Yes it was not cheap but you get what you pay for and as it’s a show car it has to be right, will bring some bits up so you can see next time I see you.

Today started with fitting the roll hoops. Leather work is great on them and a snug fit in the holes. Then worked on the driver mirror, all was pretty straight forward after making templates. There is no space to fit a plate within the fibreglass triangle so I am making a metal back plate which also gets welded to the door crash bar so its really secure. The fibreglass triangle will be filled inside with resin so it is solid once the bolts are tightened up.The black surround plate sides need extending and these are being dropped off for welding next week. Next weekend hope to get the passenger mirror done now I know what to do.

I didn’t realise that I had one spider and one Modena mirror  :( found out it’s the Modena mirrors that fit the dna cars as the spider mirror base bracket is way too big. So I had to buy another Modena mirror. So now I can fit everything up and work on the Door cards and tweeter covers.

Hi Darren hope you are well and going to the show.

Mirrors are now finished and all the interior is ready to go back in week after next, Barry is fitting the new ecu and wiring, then to make it 'talk' to the car. Understand it a bit, all to do with pulses etc ??? so once done i can get the interior in. Fitted the front bumper and some additional support brackets are being made for it. The remaining parts for the car are due end of this week and with Barry working on the rear of the car we will be all over it to get it completed

All I know is you need 15 sheets of dynamat to do the car completely  ::) whilst waiting for the engine works to carry on I’ve been having a go at changing the look of the door sill plates. The plastic trim has been cut and welded to get rid of the rear square section and is going to be flocked in black. Then U channel fitted to the edge so it sits against the alloy plate, the engraving came out really good. Just need to be painted to look genuine.

Does that engraving go all the way through? (Doesn’t look as though it does).   If it does, have you considered an electroluminescent panel below it?
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on May 21, 2018, 10:04:24 AM
The alloy plate is 3mm thick but the engraving is 2mm so not all the way through. I’m in discussions with Wayne to achieve the correct finish as although the plates have been put through the machine it looks unfinished.

Some more bits arrived ready for work to start again, first the exhaust valve, went for electrical not vacuum as can open and close when needed. as space is limited in the bay I went for a lithium battery that’s is so small :o weighs just over a pound! (Wish they cost this). Means it can be mounted anywhere in the bay even upside down. So now don’t need to fit a new Andersen setup. A remote control disables the battery which is yet to be ordered.

Collected the exhaust parts late in week ready to start fitting at the weekend. Pipe diameter is 3”  :o so was a challenge to fit the whole system in. Big thanks to lee for doing a 3 hour round trip to collect the additional pipes we desperately needed  :D. Going to get the whole system ceramic coated and at the moment leaning towards dark grey but may change. Due to the restricted space we couldn’t fit the electronic diverter so now looking at vacuum valves further down the system. More to do on the pipe work but majority of it done.

Not sure I would sell it guys, maybe once I’ve sorted the 360 cover out. Limited time on the car this weekend but worked on the rear handbrakes. Barry had made a jig a while back so the whole carrier etc was easier to work on in the vice. Was a case of making sure the caliper missed all other components. The template has been made and passed onto the engineer. Once the adapters are back they just need powdercoating and fitting to the car. Another tricky part of the build done

Nice mate

Look amazing on the discs like that.
That bracket that Barry mocked up was a great fit, and works a treat.
Just shows you how tight things are though when you look carefully at where the callipers sits..  :o
Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on July 22, 2018, 08:48:53 PM
Your not kidding it’s seriously tight but only place it could go, ideally would of liked it at 7pm position like the genuine cars but no chance due to space etc.

Another big thanks to lee for sorting out a front brace. With a bit shaved off the bonnet catch we were able to get it to fit :D BUT this was only because my bonnet catch is different to others as its shorter. Lee has checked measured on his and it won’t work without modifying. Going to get the brace powdercoated Black (sorry lee) and then fit the flocked covers in which will hide a majority of the brace.

Works are now done to the rear bumper, we had to cut out additional vents in the diffuser so the intercooler heat can escape, also cut out for the new anti roll bar.  The hole in the diffuser for the mr2 cat has been fibreglassed back in as the hole is no longer needed. Barry has designed and fabricated a rear frame that secures the bumper, intercooler and the rear deck brackets. This means no flex in the rear of the car. The frame has been made so it can be unbolted, but also just the bumper can be removed so access is easier for maintenance. Amazing work. The rear bumper has been repainted and just the mesh to fit at the weekend.

The intercooler pipe work is all in, just tack welded for now until exhaust is finished. Then all pipes being sent away for welding and ceramic coating. The remaining interior parts are back from being flocked along with the front bin and plastics. Also collected are the sill plates from Wayne’s. Yet again top work from Wayne  8)

As I’m waiting for work to continue on the car I’ve been sorting some more bits out. Lots of hunting on the net I managed to pick up (with some help negotiation) a complete unused tool kit and a tyre inflator cannister with bag. Got them at a crazy low price and couldn’t say no. Just waiting for the straps to arrive this week and collect the bracket from the engineers. Both the tool kit and inflator brackets will be flocked the same as the tub. Going to move the alarm to the outside as others have done. Yep there’s no space left in the tub but not an issue for me. I’m moving the washer bottle again. I’ve scrapped the mr2 one as there’s just no space to fill and it’s covered by half the wing. Ive purchased a 360 filler neck to use. This will be located further down the tub surround. I have a few ideas on which washer container to use just need to do some more measuring this week.

Neither can I, it’s been 4 years and never driven it  ::) Either way it will be completed by April without fail. Managed to sort the tool box cage out and fit to the tub. Then secured the straps. Still working on the tyre canister bracket. The straps have a tendency to crack and split on genuine cars so that’s why I’ve had brackets and cages made to take the weight.

Worked on the washer bottle as all cabling and correct plugs finished for the light and clock. Genuine 360 washer bottles are crazy money, even used ones  :o so after hours upon hours hunting the net I found one suitable. This one is thin and slightly shorter. Started off by making the cage for the bottle and then fitting to the mr2 shell I have. I’ve made it so it all just bolts together. Just needs powder coating gloss black. Then moved onto the filler neck. Nothing is straightforward and I had to shorten the 360 neck. Managed to get the filler on the frunk surround as near as possible as on genuine cars. I’ve adapted rubber water hoses to make up the pipe work. Now all done need to think of what else I can do away from the car.

Going to keep the washer bottle as it is, it’s like that on the 360 so staying that way ;D I’ve check measured and all looks good for clearing the nappy, I may once it’s fitted to the car add some additional side vents in the nappy. Just the filler cap to order and as usual no stock so two weeks from Italy  ::)

Hi Wayne, it’s the front under tray thingy ;D as in pic it’s a funny shape so just had to check it would clear. Also pic of completed washer bottle and filler neck.

Lee.  Nice idea to paint the water bottle black.  They always go yellow and painting it black hides this and also adds conformity to that area.

I was going to add about not being able to see how much water is in it, but then I remembered that on the SL based cars the only way you can see the bottle is take the front wing off.

Understand about painting it black and on some cars this is suitable, however got to keep it as genuine as possible. This bottle is spotless seeing as it’s 10 years old. If for some reason it doesn’t look like this in the future I will just replace. Rubber blank offs arrived today. This was to blank off the existing filler neck hole.

Washer bottle tested on my car and all good so the bracket was sent over for powdercoating. Then worked on stripping down the rear handbrake calipers so they could be painted. All the bolts and springs are going to be dipped. Also the handbrake brackets were fitted to the car. Lots of checking and testing to make sure all components fit and everything looks good. The new fully adjustable front end has also been fitted. Amazing bit of kit and this now means there are no spacers fitted to the car 8) just waiting for the 6 pot calipers to come back from being painted. When I bought them they were in an anodised red finish but as Lee and Barry said look like a sammon colour ::) when back the braided lines can be ordered. The exhaust set up is now being worked on before being dropped off for ceramic coating later next week.

Hi Darren it’s booked into few shows once completed so won’t be used that much but yes it will be driven, gulp  :o Handbrake parts came back from anodiser so the calipers were made up and temporarily fitted to the car as work starts on the drive shafts soon. Then brackets were made for the catch can as the one supplied made the can in the direct location of the petrol tank supply pipes ::) once made and powder coated it was fitted to the car. Also had the time to fit the washer bottle and the Ferrari interior light/clock.

A fair amount achieved on Saturday mark.
Not the easiest job getting the water bottle fitted though mark..  not standard and completely different location, but hats off to you, your design and bracket making certainly worked 👍🏻

Fantastic Mark

They look so much better than before

I know it wasn’t a cheap addition to get them repainted, but worth every penny in my opinion.

The disc assembly and the engine look amazing,  where did you get the Ferrari filler caps.

However I don’t like the pattern on the carpets and door cards.  They’re a bit repetitive.

I can answers the caps furruri...  they are genuine caps...

Mark.. sorry I haven’t been down to help for the last few weeks due to health issues, but loving the pictures of the callipers now you have had them painted the right Color, they look the dogs b0110x..

Lee.  Real caps, two of them.  Aren’t they a bit expensive, I’ve heard that they are about £750 each new although they are on fleebay at £100 - £300 each.

I’ve looked at pictures of the California engine and luckily I don’t need those.  Makes sense 'cos the engine is under the bonnet not on display.

Post by: 360MKbuild on April 03, 2019, 07:10:02 PM
Yep they are genuine caps  8) As with all the genuine parts I’ve got on the car I have been able to get them at a really good price and I didn’t pay anything near those prices mentioned. To be honest a majority of the time it costs more to try and replicate correctly than to get the genuine parts.

With the driveshafts positioned in the gearbox and in the new hubs it now shows how much they have to be extended. A set have been mocked up and sent away to be made and hardened.

Title: Re: New 360 build
Post by: 360MKbuild on April 13, 2019, 10:45:34 PM
Won’t be stonleigh this year Steve, too much of a rush. We have been sorting lots of items needed, upgraded fuel pump as standard pressure not enough for new engine,  braided fuel lines etc etc. Clutch is now sorted, brakes just need braided fuel lines measured and ordering and Barry working on the conversion for the throttle set up. Also the gear selector is completed and back from the powder coaters. The boost pipes are being tig welded this week. The rear cage was removed for welding up and powder coating. Also the adjustable exhaust hangers work brilliantly which make it so easy to line up the tips.

These are the things that take time. The gear linkage parts all being made from scratch at the engineers. This has been designed to work on the mr2 cables to the Ford gearbox. All rose jointed and fully adjustable. Next was the intercooler. I found a supplier selling new genuine Ford ones for £60 so couldn’t say no. I have cut off the brackets that are not needed. Spent the day checking the welds on the boost pipes as they came back from the welders. Pressured up to 40 psi which is so overkill but want to ensure no leaks. These are now ready for ceramic coating and hopefully back next weekend.

Yeh, it’s only an exhaust pipe.  I can go down the road to the local exhaust place and get one of those.

Err, no.  It doesn’t work like that.  It’s a one off.  That means somebody has to design it.  Not a design team, someONE has to do it.  Then it has to be made.  Not factory made.  It’s a ONE off.  Then some people make disparaging remarks about it “only being a replica”. They just don’t understand.

Keep up the outstanding work.  It’s a credit to the kit car ( not a good name I know) community.

Yes you hit the nail on the head there. Quadruple your estimated timescales and you might be somewhere close to the time. Exhaust is away being ceramic coated and due back this week as we have had to wait for the colour chosen to be shipped in from the states, collected the intercooler pipes which are coated in silver ceramic and we started to build everything up on the removable rear frame. Barry also collected the new driveshafts from the engineers which have taken nearly 6 weeks to make. But this is the same lead time for anyone, first they have to be made then sent away within a big batch to be hardened elsewhere and then back to the engineers for quality control before we could finally get our hands on them. I’m sure there are cheaper and quicker options but with 300bhp+ and serious torque to the wheels we don’t want any issues. We decided to have them two pack painted in gloss black. They cannot be powder coated due to the heat process. The shafts are all made up read to fit this week. 8) All the intercooler silicone pipe clips due this week and in W4 stainless.

Repainted a few sections of the engine bay where we removed the old exhaust hangers. Then fitted the exhaust that’s been ceramic coated, then rear frame refitted and exhaust tips fitted. Just doing this took 12 hours :o everything takes time. Brakes and front wide track setup being finished/fitted this week.

I’m sorry mark, but I’m going to have to be a bit negative here on this post...

After calling in for only an hour last night to see how you have been getting on, I’m afraid to say these pictures don’t do the project any justice at all...!

I was absolutely blown away last night at what I saw and how much had been done since the last time I had been down.. but these pictures just don’t show the level of excellence of work done..

But well done mate, it’s a credit to all the planning and hard work in the planning.. it’s certainly all coming together.. but I think a Video may be better???
