Hi Sundog as Madman says it's an SRC kit, it's just the amount of time to get the car finished that's Extreme  ::)

Blimey mate, who's doing the welding? Stevie wonder...??  :o

I hope that's not the final welds, and only a template for the proper stainless one..?

Just my opinion, I know.....

I'm hoping they have just tacked it in place for now Lee  :-[
Title: Re: Latest update SRC430
Post by: Darren on February 21, 2016, 10:41:32 AM
I've learned through my experience with motor repair workshops, welding is not always top of the list in expertise. As long as it doesn't break and there aren't any holes it should do.
I'm a welder, so would find it easy to criticise, but choose not to. My partner just had her car welded up for the MoT (it had to be done on a ramp for the inside sill panel) I won't look because I know I won't like what I see, it'll be strong enough, just very untidy

is there room to refit the wheel well but making it shallower? when the diffuser is refitted. giving you a little bit of extra storage space

Post by: Georgelooney on February 21, 2016, 12:24:17 PM
Fair point dangerrous, it's not like I'm going to be crawling underneath to check out the exhaust every weekend , as long as it doesn't leak and it holds the exhaust together I'm not bothered how it looks, and Madman as for the wheel well, I'm not sure, but if Sha is reading this maybe that might be an idea and might possibly look better or save some time!

I'm sorry if I offended anyone, only my opinion.
But out of sight or not, that's something I couldn't live with.

I suppose it's all down to everyone's idea of 'acceptable'.
I know I'm OCD, and I'm sure a few of you are getting to know this too... ;D

Title: Help needed to get my car ready for Stoneleigh
Post by: Georgelooney on March 15, 2016, 09:38:14 AM
I've been told my car needs two more coats of primer and each coat needs one and a half weeks to cure before sanding ? So my car is going to be just sat there doing nothing!
I really want to get my car to Stoneleigh so I am wondering if you guys know of someone around the Leeds area who can sort out my interior and fit all the last bits e.g. Wire mesh, stereo, reversing camera etc. This is the only way I can get the car to Stoneleigh so any help is appreciated guys

Thanks
Title: Re: Latest update SRC430
Post by: beemaman on March 15, 2016, 11:21:07 AM
hi buddy

why does it need more primer if it was polyestered ? you have to be very carefull putting too many coats of high build primer on a fiberglass car as it shrinks even after months of being applied.we done a test for ppg standox by mixing and spraing polyester vs primer and after 2 moths the primer had shrunk well over and inch and the polyester hadnt moved at all.the primer should only be for sealing in the filler and polyester.2 thin coats so it doesnt shrink.our test panels came back after being left in sun for 2 weeks and the paint on the polyester one was fine but the primer one had spider cracks and blow holes in were the prmer was too thick and had moved.
come on lads lets try help him out for stoneleigh :)

Thanks for your helpful advice, once again Beemaman, As you can probably tell I haven't got a clue when It comes to bodywork, so I have to go along with what I am told :/

I am really hoping that I can get my car ready for Stoneleigh... so Please if anyone can help me out??
Title: Re: Latest update SRC430
Post by: anudimension on March 15, 2016, 07:15:13 PM
That's a lot of work to have that car ready for Stoneleigh. No window trims electrics to sort and other trim bits. its not just the paint bits its the build up after.
I think if it was already in paint it might be a tall order as parts need to be made still. Wheel arch liners? Interior trim? wiring of lights? Spacers? etc etc.
Title: Re: Latest update SRC430
Post by: Georgelooney on March 15, 2016, 07:43:02 PM
Wheel spacers are done, electrics are done

So nowhere near as much work as it sounds

I know it sounds impossible, but surely it's worth giving it a go?

I did ask Sha for a price , so am waiting to see what he comes up with

I have booked my car to be painted on the 27th April by http://prodipyourcar.com
I am using Autoflex paint which is a brand new auto paint to the UK
Here is an example of the work they do

Interesting ,  will dipping your car allow you to get away with darker colours ?
Title: Re: Latest update SRC430
Post by: Georgelooney on March 23, 2016, 08:09:28 AM
Just to be clear, this isn't plastidip, it's a new paint that is flexible but sandable & you can polish it :)
I guess we will find out as I'm going with a dark grey metallic

hi george

just wanted to clarify you know the people who are painting your car it isnt a proper 2k bodyshop paintjob it is a plastidip product that can be peeled off at a later date.didnt want you to get confused with a normal paintjob that can not be removed all there products are peelable not 2k paint..

I have decided to go with a vinyl wrap, as we missed the deadline last time, through no fault of my own, AutoXclusiv are asking for another Ā£200 deposit  :-\
The car is being wrapped on June 11th
I know some of you might not be a fan of vinyl wraps but it's only temporary and will get it painted in the future
So I thought as I'm going with a wrap I might as well make it a bit special and I am going with a brushed metal finish see pic

Sha has told me once the wrap is done the car will be ready for collecting a week later  ;D

Hi George cars looking great ,but I must admit you hav got me confused  you hav mentioned a couple of times now that the dip then the wrap are only temporary ,all the hard work in painting a car is getting it to the stage you are at now so I don't see how it can be any cheaper to wrap it at this stage rather than put the paint on cheers Jd

It's been a while since I posted an update, good news the car is finally in paint :)
As the exterior is almost complete, I am looking for someone to help me with the interior,
It doesn't need to be someone who does interiors for a living, if you have done your own interior and fancy the challenge again, I will of course pay the going rate :)
Any ideas or recommendations let me know thanks!!

Let me know your opinion on the colour I have chosen!

I have driven approx 1000 miles in her so far
Everything was going well until one of my BC Racing shocks failed
not what you would expect after just 1000 miles
a replacement damper is Ā£100 because I actually bought them 3 yrs ago not covered under warranty
does anyone else have experience of BC Racing coilovers failing?
Title: Re: Latest update SRC430
Post by: Georgelooney on September 30, 2017, 05:41:31 PM
Fitted the new damper yesterday
it has transformed the car, what a difference

After driving the car, I have realised the damper must have been faulty when I fitted the coilovers

Managed to fit my genuine F430 mirrors too

My car has now been sold, I hope the new owner has as much fun with her as I did.
I just wanted to say thank you for all the help from the members of the forum.
