3Sixty Chat / Wow what a difference !!
« on: July 02, 2021, 05:47:41 PM »
So i needed new rear tyres and was getting fed up with our rubbish roads and those bum clenching moments as you hit a pot hole.

I currently have 285 x 30 but always thought the 30 series was a bit too small in wall height and as you know the tyre wall does do a lot of the work absorbing road bumps.

After much research i decided on a 285 x 35 which increases the wall height from 85 mm approx. to 96 mm approx.

Doesn't sound like much but WOW what a difference it has transformed the ride quality. My usual drives where i know the roads felt completely different it was a real joy. Plus i think the new tyre fills out the wheel arch better the 30 series looked a bit small , personal preference i know.

3Sixty Chat / Re: Rear Tyres
« on: June 14, 2021, 08:25:26 PM »
Hi Darren thanks for the reply. Im no expert as you can tell but the problem is that the drive shafts are no longer parallel to the road and rise up as they travel out towards the wheel from the engine causing the actual angle to be incorrect which makes the tyre wear on the inner shoulder.

I don't know if this is caused by the fact that the rears are 18 inch not the standard 15 inch or the wide tyres and spacers don't help? Also i guess lowering the suspension doesn't help either? I do have adjustable coilovers but would cranking them right up improve the situation ?? Not that i would as it would look daft.

Woodsport knew about this problem as they have done a few V6s and raised my engine up as high as they could within the engine bay which they said would help reduce this problem, which has made a big difference. Was this to help compensate for the lowered suspension?

Not sure if i have explained that very well but you are a pretty clever chap so hopefully you can understand.

Cheers

3Sixty Chat / Rear Tyres
« on: June 14, 2021, 04:30:00 PM »
So i will need some rear tyres soon and i notice that the standard 18 inch rim can take a 285 x 35 or a 275 x 40 i currently have 285s Has anyone put 275s on?

The reason im asking is although i have a 3l V6 and the engine is mounted as high as possible it still does wear the inner shoulder of tyre due to the angle of the drive shafts although not as bad as when i had the 1.8. So i thought maybe a slightly thinner tyre would wear the inner shoulder less and last longer?

Any thoughts or other issues i might incur with a 275 ?

Cheers

Hi I would have said that £150 for a sport cat would be about right. A Milltek Cat can be about £300 so not sure where £600 comes from? Did they give you the manufacturers name?
You could always contact Paul at Woodsport Engineering he is really nice guy and knows everything about the MR2 engines on all models im sure he would help. Check out the Woodsport web site...you mite talk yourself into a V6  ;D

Sales and Wants / Re: WANTED: 2fifty perspex headlight covers
« on: March 06, 2020, 01:50:13 PM »
Have you tried asking DNA? If no luck maybe someone could lend you a pair so you can get them scanned and printed, you may only need one and if you get it scanned they can flip it to make a right and left. They scan the item print it and then vacuum form the perspex sheet. I remember seeing this done on Car SOS and wheeler dealers , both needed a perspex cover for a Messerschmitt 3 wheeler so there are companies that can do what you need.

Don't know if that helps?

Drives really well, fake brakes front and rear, HID headlight conversion , sounds really good on the 1.8

I will post up some pics in next few days but thought I would give anyone that's looking a heads up. Car is near Chelmsford.

If your interested pm me and I will give you the contact details.

3Sixty Chat / Re: 360 front tyres rubbing on wheel arches
« on: June 09, 2019, 03:25:21 PM »
Hi I have a 360 too and I don't think your front tyres are 285 more like 215 x 35 x zr18....anyway if the inner wheel arch seam has already been flattened back then you can grind it down with a drill and grind wheel to give you a bit more clearance which is what I did. DONT over grind it though obviously.......

3Sixty Chat / Re: HID Headlights
« on: November 18, 2018, 06:21:58 PM »
Hi Lee.. I think the quality of the kit you buy makes a massive difference. I read that some cheap kits from china were really poor. All the cables were screened and the connectors were all water proof. They were really well made. I tested the bulb cut off pattern at night by having one HID and one halogen and a large piece of board...they were almost identical. I also got a mate to drive in front of me once they were fitted and he said there was no glare at all. I don't know if the reflector type headlights cause more issues than our projector type which does have the inbuilt bulb screen/cut off section? What was dangerous was driving at night with halogens............

3Sixty Chat / HID Headlights
« on: November 18, 2018, 05:13:08 PM »
Not sure what the headlights are like on the 430 but they are rubbish on the 360. They are so bad I don't drive the car at night. So I decided to fit HID bulbs from HIDS4U. They were about £85.00 and were really well made and dead easy to fit. I went for 6000 kelvin pure white and the higher rated 55 watt. This wattage is NOTHING like 55 watt halogen trust me....The beam spread and distance is amazing...I can now actually drive at night and see where im going. A friend was so impressed I put some on his 360.I had to get an MOT and told the garage I had fitted HID bulbs and they said that as long as they were aligned correctly they were happy. There is a bit of interference when they are on through the radio which I know can occur but strangely none on my mates car.I have still to change my head unit as the cd player has packed up so will just stick a cd on if there is still any issues when the new head unit goes in. But I cant say how pleased I am with them and they really set the car off especially if you change the side light bulbs to super bright LED as well..... 8)
