Title: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on October 08, 2014, 10:56:32 PM
I was down at Barry's (Mario) tonight talking through a few things with my car that need doing...

And he said he had took a few pictures of my car, whilst it's in his garage.

Now please note, it still has Barry's wheels on, but looking good.

I just thought I would share.

The Autoglym HD wax makes a big difference under the lights....!

Oh yes, before anyone asks, the engine cover wasn't pushed flat...

Couldn't agree more. Motor look stunning. You just need to get a "LEE" number plate and your all done.

It's been requested Wizard......! And it will be released this year (according to the DVLA)

Just a shame I can't put my number plate off the GOLF on to it..... :-[

But here's hoping I get the one I want for the right money... ;D but I'll be surprised, as I think I'll get outbid by any other private plate company, as they will see the value in it...!

Evening guys....

Well the story continues...

Wayne rung me just before I started my journey to his place tonight.

Said the wheels were all done..
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on October 09, 2014, 10:05:11 PM
But then 'luckily' Wayne spotted one of the tyres looked flat..

He looked closer into this and found that the leak wasn't in the tyre, but in the alloy...

Two areas of the alloy needed repairing, sand blasting again, and re-powder coating again....

Obviously Wayne didn't want me coming down to pick up the wheels when they weren't 100% to his normal standards, so stopped me going.

He's quickly dropped the offending wheel at a alloy welders to hopefully get that bit of it done tomorrow, then back to the spray booth for another attempt....

Post by: Lee22 on October 10, 2014, 12:46:48 PM
Yes it is mate..!    I'm the new owner of the beauty.

I am bringing this stunning car back to its former glory with the help of a few people.
Obviously there are a few off this forum offering advise/help and good thoughts.

Both Wayne (beemaman) and Barry (Mario) are working hard on areas of the car that need attention to bring this girl back to A1 mint condition.

Can't wait to see the wheels in the flesh, as the pictures Wayne has sent me, makes them look brilliant, but Wayne says they look even better than the pictures show.

As we speak, Wayne at JAC exhausts in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, is busy hand building me a new stainless exhaust to replace the cracked original one.
I'll post some before and after pictures when Wayne sends me some.

So fingers crossed, things will come together in the next 10 days..!

Lee, you don't need "fingers crossed". You car is with 2 experts and you know it will be done to perfection.

I know it will mate.  ;D

I've just had a text from Wayne to say he's flying here, there and everywhere trying to get this wheel of mine welded up and re-powder coated asap ..!

He's a good man.

Like everyone is that I've met so far.....

Im so sorry to say this but it looks so so much better and real without the black wheels.... was nice font get me wrong but it now looks 1000000% more real that is just fcuking siccccck!!!
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on October 10, 2014, 03:18:10 PM
In some ways I agree.

But if you google 'Ferrari white f430 spider scuderia' and go to images, I don't think (if I remember correctly) you will find one with silver wheels
They are all, grey or black.

And most have yellow caliper's.. Hence the reason Wayne is now spraying my caliper's yellow with the word ferrari down them in dark grey  ;D

So i do agree the silver wheels look A1, but I'm trying to keep it in keeping with the original car.

And...... (It's a big 'And' too)... Barry won't sell me these wheels....! I've asked :'(
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Wizard on October 10, 2014, 03:59:24 PM
I prefer the black wheels. Helps with the black and white colour scheme.
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: rudycob1 on October 10, 2014, 04:27:51 PM
I think they both look great on a great car but personally I agree with Lee, black wheels are more in keeping with the colour scheme of this car.
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on October 10, 2014, 10:18:10 PM
Thanks guys and this is why I really like the people on this forum.

Everyone has different opinions to what looks good and what should work, but I suppose at the end of the day, it's down to what the owner likes....

But it was a dilemma when Barry put his wheels on my car... I was seriously thinking of asking Wayne to powder coat them bright silver and not anthracite grey.....

But I stuck to my initial thought of keeping the car as original as possible.

I'll ask Barry to take some more pictures when my wheels are back on, so we can compare the difference with the car being in the same position with the same lighting.

The new wheels are insane, incredible job. Guess who I will be asking to do my wheels on my Grigio Silverstone coloured 430 (ordering kit very soon).

Hi, if your looking to order a 430 kit, you may wish to speak with Mario as he has a 430 kit that he is selling as he has too many other projects to do.

Ya that's right wizard,

My car is currently parked in Mario's (Barry's) garage, and if you look, you can see the 430 body ontop of the office...!

And I believe the red MR2 you can just see through my windscreen is the donor car.. (But I'm not 100% sure on that, you would need to talk to Barry)

He's a great guy... Don't hesitate to contact him

A quick update guys...

I suppose you all saw the state of the old exhaust that was on this car and how badly cracked and rusted this was....

Well, Wayne at JAC Exhausts has just sent me a picture of the new one he's hand made me from 1.5mm stainless.

Now to say I'm pleased with the new one is a bit Of an understatement

Your looking at £320 with the Trims....

I've not seen it yet.. As I collect it tomorrow, but it looks the Dogs......

The image on my phone is a lot bigger than I can upload onto the forum, so I can see the quality better...

Wayne took the old exhaust apart, to see what is inside it, and he has replicated it exactly, so the sound should be the same.

Can't wait to get it on and fire the car up  ;D

This time... I have the wheels back from Wayne ;D

And OMG... They are fantatsic.

Wayne had a lot of running around to do, to get them back to the way they were..... But you must agree they now look like they should.....

Thanks again Wayne... I'm really pleased

Arrrrrrrr At last..., I managed to get down to Barry's before he headed off home (good job he works late.. :o)

So, managed to get my wheels back on... And Barry's off and safely stored away again..

Not the greatest of picture, as it was took with an LED back light, but you can see how shiny the new wheels are..

Your right there Mate.

Wayne at JAC exhausts, Wayne (Beeaman), and Barry (Mario Motors) are definatley doing me proud..!

If all works out ok, I could be collecting, Bonnet, Claipers, Diffuser and Key from Wayne this week and then Barry will be able to start work on the car getting it 'Leak free' and running as sweat as a nut.

Barry is also templating me a rear brace that will fit under the fake engine cover, as my car doesn't have a brace across the engine bay, but I don't want to cut the engine cover to fit it in, so watch this space when Barry has does his magic and templates this up..
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on November 02, 2014, 11:08:59 PM
Another update...

I managed to drill all the holes in my discs, re spray the black inners and get the stainless plates off Barry (Mario)... Thanks Barry.
Most of the discs had been rubbing on the calipers, and had scratched the fibreglass and took most of the paint off, so I've repaired those also.

All the drilled holes have been hand painted with an artists paint brush, so I think looking ok now.

So, I've called to see Wayne (Beemaman) today as he's managed to fix my bonnet.

As most if you will probably remember, the bonnet had cracked on the underside in a few parts.
The bond had started to come undone too.

So wayne has parted the cracks, re-bonded, filled and painted....

As you can see from these 2 pictures..... It looks amazing... But I wouldn't of expected anything less... ;D

Post by: Lee22 on November 02, 2014, 11:30:00 PM
Also on the collection list was the newly sprayed calipers...

They were white but there were a few cracks in the fibreglass and I didn't think they showed off enough in white (but that's just a personal preference), although they needed repairing because of the cracks.

Just got to add the new decals once I know which calipers goes on which wheel.

Thanks again Wayne, a super job done there, and no cracks in sight..... ;D

It's just a shame that Wayne is seeing my car in bits and not the whole car in one..!

I'm going to have to remove the front bumper at some point and have all that resprayed too, as the car has been rubbed on kurbes or sleeping police men, so the underneath of the front bumper is scratched to death.  ???

Plus, Wayne is still working on my Key, rear diffuser and front splitter.

The key has been miss treated and dropped, so badly chipped and scuffed.
The rear diffuser and front splitter has had the same treatment that the front bumper has been subjected too, so is very badly scuffed and chipped.

So hopefully these items will be re moulded and re painted in the next week or so, and back on the car..!

So what with all that is happening and Barry (Mario) having the engine apart and fabricating cross bars for the engine bar..

It's all go

Oh, and yes, I haven't even started on the interior yet..!
The seats are going to have to go away to get all the eyelets re-crimped so they don't fall off when you get out of the car.
Plus I'm also looking at replacing the carpet too, as the current one will not come up clean, even though I've tried and tried..!

And for any of you that missed the delights of the underneath of my bonnet before Wayne got it, here's a picture of ONE of the cracks under the bonnet.
There were numerous, and a drill hole where a piece of metal was added to hold the bonnet down?

All these have now been removed and put back to its original state.

Wayne spent hours parting the two bonnet skins and bonding them back togther.

After taking to Paul,
I was never happy with ply wood in the back of the car.

So shot to B&Q and got some 25mm * 25mm upvc corner
But I'm not happy with it, as it doesn't cover the holes 100% so picked up a 30mm * 30mm section today, so will be fitting thus one soon.

A couple more pictures from Wayne.

Rear diffuser had been scraped along the floor a fair few times, so the fins where very badly scratched and a lot flatter than they should be...  Plus no paint.

The front splitter had done through the same treatment, and most of the back edge was scraped and missing all its paint.

So Wayne has rebuilt them and under coated them.

Ready for paint next week...  ;D

Evening..

I spent a few hours last night fixing on the decals Wayne kindly got made up for me....

Not the easiest job in the world with the red lettering being as small as it is, but got there in the end..

Hope you think they look the part.

I know Wayne did them originally in white but I'm just trying to put my own stamp on the car, bit by bit

Thanks wizard.. I'm really happy with them now...  The colour of them doesn't show correctly on the picture I'm afraid, they are a brighter yellow than shown.

I do understand what your saying Wayne.. White do look good on a white car.. But I've got to personise this car somewhat to make it look like mine. ;D
I won't be doing too many things to it, as it a great car.. But need to sproose it up a bit.

Hopefully in the next few weeks Barry will have the braces made, powdercoated and fitted.

I have been pricing up induction kits, as the MR2 air box is a little on the tall size and it's going to be hard to fit a cross brace across the back struts without hitting this air box.  The brace strut will need to be lowered so it missed the ferrari engine cover.
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on November 20, 2014, 10:29:57 PM
After taking a closer look at the 25mm * 25mm plastic edging I placed on the back engine section, I wasn't happy with the fit and the way it just missed covering the holes that attach this to the chassis.

Therefore I started again with a larger piece from B&Q
30mm * 30mm

So here we go again.... Pictures before
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on November 20, 2014, 10:36:33 PM
And here fitted.

As you can see, the 30mm*30mm is a little too deep for 2 sections of the car, so these small bits needed to be cut out.

Quite easy with a sharp blade and a metal ruler..

I decided to wrap the new exhaust yesterday as I'm sure it may be time to start putting stuff back on the car soon.
I have got a little job to do with the rear anti roll bar, as it's very badly rusted and the D rubbers looks like they have seen better days to.
So I'll whip that out, and also replace the front and back Drop Links at the same time, as they look like they have seen better days also.
So might as well get the drop links replaced and the rear anti roll bar sanded basted and repainted before we fit the exhaust back, but at least that's only a little job before things are going back on.

So exhaust was wrapped....  Wow, I hate that stuff.... I didn't wear gloves (big mistake.!) :-[

But quite happy with the end result, as it's on extremely tight.... And I ended up using 1 roll of 2 inch by 10M on each exhaust.... ::)
It's a good job I got it at a good price £6.20 a roll..  (Total for 20M - £12:40) ;D

Love the calipurrs, right down to the bleed nipple covers.   Little things but it all adds to the overall picture.  Attention to detail is great.

The way it's all going we won't be allowed into kit car shows 'cos nobody will believe they're not OEM cars.

Thanks guys, these 5 mins job always end up taking longer than you expect... But to be honest it's worth the time, I'm happy so far with the outcome.

Plenty of jobs to do, but if they all turn out as well as the other bits, ill be happy iwth the overall outcome.

Hopefully Wayne (Beemaman) will be sending me some pictures of my newly completed rear diffuser and front splitter.
There are some deep scratches under the front bumper where no care has been taken when either going over speed bumps or parking up against Kurds, so that needs sorting too, but I'll take the car to Wayne next year and ask him to wave his magic wand over the car and put it right....

So hopefully before May kit show it should be done.

Evening all,

Wayne has done me proud once again....!

Just look at the rear diffuser and front splitter...!

On previous pages of this thread you will see these two items when I gave them to Wayne, then pictures that Wayne sent me when they were repaired and in primer...

And now below the finished items........

OMG....Thanks mate, they look fantastic, and can't wait to get them back on the car.. ;D

With the car being at Barry's and parts fly backwards and forwards to Wayne's... Roll on next year...!

Anti roll bars coming off tomorrow night hopefully, so they can get sand blasted and painted.
New drop link were ordered this week and came today... So they will get fitted once the anti roll bar is back.
Barry has ordered new 'D' rubbers from Toyota for the anti roll bars.

New induction kit arrived today too....! What a bargain... £11.50 plus p&p

Lee, there is a BIG problem with your car. Your car is going too look so good that you will never want to drive it.  It will be in a permanent showroom condition.

Honestly really happy that the car is commin on so well and it's getting the love/attention that Wayne also put into it.

Keep up the excellent job and hopefully we'll meet up again soon

Thanks guys.. I am a bit of a stickler for everything being 100%

I know what your saying Wizard, but it will do more miles than the Westfield did in 19 years.. 3,600 :o

My theory currently is.... It's winter, and I wouldn't be using the car anyway, so it may as well be down at Barry's in his spotless garage, where I can work on with ease as there is plenty of space, and I have Barry's brain to pick when I'm stuck with something.

I wouldn't be surprised that if, by the end of next winter, all the removable items off the car haven't been sand blasted and either powder coated or painted.

We haven't had the car on the lift yet.... So who knows what delights I will find under there waiting for me....!

Anyway, I'll keep the pictures coming of bits and bobs I'm doing...
Hopefully I should get time to get down tonight to get the anti roll bars off, then that's another job on its way.

Just come back from Barry's.
Got the rear anti roll bar off.
Good job I did, the bushers were worn, so they definitely need replacing.

Just took a couple of pictures whilst I was down there.

Quick updat on Saturdays progress.

Managed (eventually) to remove the front anti roll bar and drop links.
Ended up having the move the spare wheel box out of the way, to get the angle to remove the bar, without having to take all the lower arms off.

So that's both anti roll bars off now.
We took the two off Barry's car also, and Barry's has very kindly said he would try and get them dropped off at the sand blasters this week....
So may be looking at getting them back on the car next weekend.

I ran out of time, but wanted to get the front brace took off too, and get that sand blasted and redone, as that is very rusty.

While that spare wheel box/frunk is out you could line it with felt. Much easier to do off the car I reckon

Mine was flock sprayed.  Looked very good.
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on December 07, 2014, 05:58:29 PM
That's the only problem Paul, it will move, but won't come out.... >:(

The passenger side wing covers the box too much to allow it to completely come out........
Luckily it just moved enough to get the anti roll bar out.. And believe me it was tight.

I would of loved to of got it out, although I have found a spare wheel that fits the car and the box.. ;D (well that's a bit of fib... Barry found out what the stud pattern was, and I located a space saver off eBay for £6.. So took the gamble).

So I'll be getting a sleeve made for the wheel and placing that in the box for the time being.

I still haven't done my glove box, Paul.... :o

Sorry Wizard, I'm afraid I've put a stop to Barry's ideas of a hovercraft.... ;D, so the wheels are going back on I'm afraid.

I'm glad I raised a smile Mick..... :D

So, back to the job in hand... The reason the car is in the air is due to the fact that Barry has very kindly removed all the under braces off the car and any other strengthening plate and has took them today to have them sand blasted and powder coated.
I've decided to go for black powder coat, but I was considering White... But I bet they will get dirty very quickly..
So both front and rear anti roll bars and braces should be like new when they return.... :)

Thanks Barry (Mario), they will look fantastic.

Lee

A quick drop in at Barry's (Mario's) tonight as he's very kindly picked up my powder coated bits...!

Some more bits to get done over the next couple of weeks too.

Plus Barry is taking all the bolts to get cleaned and anodised.  We are thinking gold anodise.. ;D

Lee
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on January 06, 2015, 11:25:24 PM
Well, she's ready for take off now... All 4 wheels well off the ground, and now firmly stood on 4 axle stands.

So more items can come off the underneath to be taken to the powder coaters.

Then the complete car underneath is going to get rubbed down, Galv sprayed, then sprayed in some of Barry's secret under paint... (Stone guard with gloss)..?.?.?
So the under side of the car should look as good as the top side by the time Barry's took all these parts to be powder coated and its sprayed underneath.

So..........

Most people on the site are building 430's....!

Where I seem to be unbuilding mine........lol

Seats out, and hopefully my good new friend Barry will be dropping them over at Ashley's to get them put back to how they should look / looked when Wayne built the car.....
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on January 07, 2015, 11:36:49 PM
Just some of a few of the issues with the seats that need Ashley's expertees...

1) drivers seat is all scuffed
2) missing eyelets, and most are loose as the rear of the eyelets are all missing, so they are clamped to the leather
3) rear of the seats, the leather is short and flapping around
4) rear of the seats are all marked, due to the seats being pushed back to the maximum and pushing on the speaker covers.

There are just a couple of things I would like looking at, but hopefully Ashley will come up trumps and sort these little issues out.

Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Furrari on January 08, 2015, 11:31:26 AM
Lee.  Can't comment on the rest of the seat wear but the stuffs are typical of damage caused by the studs in jeans.  The denim that jeans are made of is very harsh (I've seen what it can do to the manufacturing machines) and the studs get very sharp with wear.  This is why I don't let people with jeans on sit in my car.
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...

Excellent news....

Just had a phone call off Barry, who says he has dropped my seats off at Ashley's @ Interior seats in Mansfield.

http://www.interiorsseating.co.uk

And he will take a look at getting them looking right..  ;D

Then he's off to a company in Nottingham who do anodising... ;D, so he's got all my bolts from under the car, including all the anti roll bar bolts, and all the bolts from the braces underneath.... And also the 4 bolts that hold the seats in, and the 2 bolts that hold the seat belts at the bottom, as I hate them Green....
So having the seat bolts and seat belt bolts done in black anodise and all the others done in rainbow gold..... ;D

Can't wait to see them....!
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on January 11, 2015, 08:47:32 PM
After looking underneath Barry's '56 plate MR2 when he had it on the ramp, I noticed he had 2 braces that sat horizontal to the length of the car and braced the car just behind the back of the seat on the underside.

Looking then under mine, there are locators for the braces, but no braces..... ::)
So I rung Toyota and they wanted £72+ Vat EACH....! :o

So the ring around scrap yards was on.... But you try and get a scrappy to go and check the underneath of the MR2's they have.....!

But, I came up trumps today, and got hold of a guy in Huddersfield that had a few MR2's in stock and He had a set on his newest car.

So shot up this lunch time and picked up this pair for £20  ;D

So once they are shot blasted and powder coated... They will look like new....

Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on January 18, 2015, 11:03:38 AM
Just a couples ore update pictures of me distmantling more of the car.

Because the two brace straps need powder coating, I thought I may as well see what else i can get off the car to take at the same time...  So all the spacers have been removed, and the front suspension on the car is actually now more... (The picture doesn't show the the final stage) as I have the bottom arm off now and the track rod ends and hub too. So not much left to look at under the front.

The front disc shields are rotten so I've got to hunt down a new (good used) pair as I can't get these powder coated and added back, as 90% of the Middle of them has gone.

The bottom arms I'll get rubbed down and 2 pack gloss painted, as I can't get hem sand blasted and powder coated, due to the rubbers in them.

Once all these parts are back from the painters/powder coaters, I'll start work on the back of the car.

Plus, Barry has taken a load of bolts to the anodisers so these are looking like new too....  Which is something I'm thinking about having my brake discs done in also... ;D. Just stops them going rusty.... (I know you don't see them, but it has to be right)

Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on January 18, 2015, 11:07:13 AM
I've also purchased all new Calipers for the car, as both the front and back on the drivers side were stuck on.  The rear pads are almost GONE. So thought it best to buy all new calipers, pads, and see how good the discs are.

I've also treated myself to new set of braided brake hoses....

I spoke to Sue at CP RaceTec this week, in burton on Trent.... Lovely lady, and I picked these up yesterday morning...
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on January 18, 2015, 11:14:26 AM
Talking about anodising, the 2 pictures below,

The black set, are the bolts in the seats (As I hated them Green) and the two bolts behind the seats that hold the seat belts in place (these were also green) are now anodised black.

The gold with rainbow effect are the bolts from the braces under the car.

All the other bolts I took off yesterday will be anodised soon ;D

Added note for the powdercoating, you might aswell get the other bits chucked in for media blasting and primering, the cost to you would be minimal AND they'll do a good job of getting all the rust off those parts, just paint them when you get them back. I got loads of stuff done for my car and they did the media blasting+ primer(red oxide) for £10 on the other parts which couldn't be powdered. Very pleased with the job AND no effort on my part  :)

Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on January 18, 2015, 12:27:22 PM
Thanks for the info Darren.

I'm not sure exactly what is done to them, as Barry (Mario) takes them to be done for me.

I know they blast, prime and then powder coat.. So not sure what else could be done..?

The anti roll bars we took were shocking.. All badly rusted, and they came back looking like new.

Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Darren on January 18, 2015, 12:48:49 PM
The heat destroys the rubber when they go in the oven. So they're just not powder coated. My Front subframe had rubber mounts, they media blasted and primered it ready for painting.
D
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on January 18, 2015, 01:21:50 PM
Oh I see what your saying Darren,

All my parts with rubbers won't be powder coated..  They will be rubbed down to bear shiny metal, undercoated and 2 pack painted in gloss black.

Only the parts that have no rubbers or seals etc will be blasted and powder coated.

Barry's next unit has a guy that paints etc, so those items will go to him (Terry).

They would of gone to Wayne (Beemaman) but it's an hour and a half drive to him, so he's just a bit too far for simple items like this, that aren't seen.

Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on January 18, 2015, 04:59:07 PM
I am sorry mate..... Lol.lol ;D ;D

But as you know, no one sees the lower arms or suspension struts, so they don't need to be at your standard of painting.....! ;D

Anyway, you will see enough of me in the spring, when I bring the car down to have those few knocks and bumps repaired... ;D
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on January 23, 2015, 10:32:45 PM
So, front struts are now out, and it looks like the front springs need powder coating also, lots if rust.

If the struts clean up, I'll paint them in 2 pack black gloss paint. If not, I need so see how much new bump stops and gaiters are anyway... I may end up replacing the struts too... :o

Hopefully Barry will 'etch and prime' my new Calipers tomorrow and then I can get on with painting them in black gloss caliper paint.

Then the new ball joints, track rod ends and other parts will need painting also.

Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...

The main purpose of the disc covers is probably to keep the brake dust from covering you wheels.  If you are fitting the replica disks these tent to stop the dust anyway.
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on January 24, 2015, 06:47:36 PM
The front disc sheild fits at the back of the disc mate, not the front, so this won't stop the brake dust on the wheels.

The shield is really to stop the main cr4p on the roads hitting the back of the discs, so it looks like I'll keep looking for a set  :-\

However, air is passed from the engine area/bay which is a high pressure area, out through the wheel arch and out through the wheel which are low pressure areas.  On the Ferrari the front bumper ducts take air from the front of the car and duct it back to the area just in front of the wheel reducing drag.

Non of this keeps the crap off the disks and pads in the bad weather.  :-)

Shocks now off the car,

All stripped apart and the wire brushing has started.

These look ok (working wise) but are all covered in surfaced rust, so they will get Galv sprayed, under coated and gloss painted.

The springs will get shot blasted and powder coated, so hopefully will look like new when they are done  :)

Last night I decided to part the spacers from the front discs, so I can get the spacer powder coated.

Well that was a stroke of luck I decided to do this..!

The drivers side were nice and tight, but the bolts on the passenger side were only just finger tight.
Looks like these have been working loose, so a good call I decided to take them apart.

I have 2 tubes of 'Thread Lock' on order now  ;D
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Furrari on January 28, 2015, 12:08:56 AM
I once had a strange knock on the rear brakes of a mini.  It knocked the first time you braked in reverse and the first time in forwards.
I eventually tracked it to the bolts holding the brake backplate in position.  They had not griped the plate and allowed the plate to rotate when you braked until lit hit the bolt.  It had cut a fair way into the bolt before I found it.
The problem seemed to be caused by somebody using the wrong bolts.  They were in tight ( bottomed out) before the flange on the bolt head contacted the plate.
Frightening isn't it.

Just a few bits rubbed down and undercoaed.

Front Hubs, rear caliper carriers, front ball joints & front suspension tops..

Leave them to dry and gloss black coat to go on soon.

Both front lower arms and front suspension struts have been taken for sand blasting and painting.
May be back by next weekend

Long way to go yet Wizard....

Not even looked at the rear end of the car yet.

Plus the main chassis at the front, behind the steering rack is rusty too, so that needs rubbing down and painting too.

So a few weeks of work left yet to do  ;D

Well Looking again at the pictures of those caliper carriers Wizard, I think I'll be getting them shot blasted..

They didn't look that bad when I was rubbing them down and painting them..... But after taking a second look at them tonight on the picture above, I think they have to be blasted... Can't be putting them back on the car... ;D

I'll have to talk to my good friend Barry on Monday to see if he can do me a big favour and drop them at the blasters this week.

That looks painfull.  Something I learned from woodwork teacher applies here.  Keep your hands behind a blade, even a screwdriver.

Another tip was never use a pump action screwdriver on a polished surface.

Does skin blunt the wire brush?

Hi Kal,

If you have different sized calipers on the car, then you need different sized decals.

If all your calipers are the same size, then this is not an problem.

They look odd if the decals are the same size but the calipers are different.

Note to myself......

When wire brushing old parts......  Keep the wire brush on the metal work...! ::)

Here's my latest injury from doing the engine cover. Slipped with the Stanley knife. Could have been a lot worse.

If they are not in Virgin Racers shop she will wake whatever you want.  My stickers weren't on eBay but she made them for me and I had them in about 4 days from order.  Not going to say what they are and I'm not fitting them till the temp goes up a bit.

Barry took my discs to an engineering company to have them skimmed and balanced, then off to the anodisers.
Box of mixed nuts and bolts have been done too.

Looking good

Started to undercoat the centres and the gloss 2 pack will go on later this week

At last, the black paint is going on..!

Only first coat, but compared to what they were, they are a 100% better

Barry pointed me in the direction of 'Dacrylate' undercoat and paint..!

So should last for years and years..!

We managed to get the spare wheel box out last night too (easier said than done..!)
And I'm quite impressed how clean and little rust is down there..!

Don't get me wrong, it will be seeing Galv spray and black gloss, at some point soon  :)

While you have the "spare wheel" thingy out, why not have it flock sprayed, fit a "boot" light and a lugage net.  I did these to my 430.  Looks good and very useful.

If all goes to plan Mike, I will placing a 'space saver' wheel in there....!
I hate the thought of not having a spare.
The golf Mk 5 is the same stud pattern so if all Worjs out ok, the spare I have will be big enough to bolt on, to at least get me to either the nearest garage or home.

I know I will need to remove the fake brake disc and fake caliper, but that's a small inconvenience.

Lee.  Luckily the West Coast/Merc uses a space saver as standard.  As you say, to use it you would need to remove the replica Calipurr ( The Furrari uses calipurrs) and disk but there is that as a fall back position if the (2) cans of tyre seal don't work.

Mick.

Hopefully Barry will have time to go and collect all my bits from powder coaters today ;D

Not sure if he will send me any pictures of it all, but I'll be down tomorrow night for an hour to take a look
Loads of stuff has been taken, including :
Front springs
Front hubs
Spacers
Braces
Caliper carriers
And a load of other stuff .. :D

Can't wait to get all this bolted back on, so I can get onto the back of the car and start the stripping process again

The original concept of The Furrari was that it would have a concealed tow bar but we ran foul of current type approval legislation.  Now you see why a tow bar is needed.

Australian race weekends limit the amount of beer that can taken in to a persons body weight.  It's not unknown for spectators to visit the venue the week before to deposit ( bury) a cache of beer incase they run out over the weekend.

I think we've a cat show a couple of weeks before the kit car show at Stoneleigh.  :-)

Thanks for the comments guys...

I'm wanting to get the underneath of the car, looking as good as the body work.
The idea is to get all the underneath either 2 pack painted or powder coated.

Barry sent me this picture today......  He's managed to order me 2 new front disc shields.

Look pretty good, but not sure how much paint is actually on them... May need sand blasting and powder coating properly, before adding to the car... ::)

I'll get some pictures done when I'm down next time and get them uploaded on the forum guys...

Well after looking closer at the two front disc shields that Barry got for me from the local Toyota dealer, the paint job on them are very poor, and the paint is very thin...
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on February 15, 2015, 11:07:37 PM
So decided to rub them down and ask Barry if he can drop them off at the paint shop 2 doors down from Mario Motors.

Terry sand blasted and painted the two front shocks, and I'm very impressed with his painting skills.

So I spent a couple of hours tonight in the dining door rubbing them down ready for painting  ;D

Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on February 15, 2015, 11:28:17 PM
Plus I've bought all new MR2 calipers too, as the old ones were binding and the pads on the drivers side rear where almost gone.
The front drivers side piston wouldn't release properly either, so new ones had to be bought.

So, rubbed these down too tonight as new calipers had a shiny silver coating that makes it difficult to undercoat and paint.

So rubbed down, ready for Barry to etch and take to Terry to 2 Pack paint in black..

I've covered the piston with gaffer tape, but not 100% sure it's sticking to the metal well enough to stop the paint getting on the piston.... So I'll ask Barry tomorrow if there is anything better to use.

Hi Lee, masking up of the piston and rubber gaitor isn't really necessary, just cover it with a bit of thick grease or just don't bother. you don't see this part of the caliper. I purchased an overhaul kit for my calipers which I fitted after paint.
When you have the chance to protect all exposed parts, go fo it, every time you look at the underside of the car you can't help but think, 'Now that's pretty :-)' I know I do.

That's the plan Wayne.....

But who knows what I'll end up doing when I start on the back section....

Then Barry (Mario) mentioned getting the car on the lift, and then painting the complete underneath....!  So can't see that being a 2 minute job either...

Should be getting the Seats back from Ashley soon too, as he's managed to level the head restraints and mend the back of the drivers seat, so no big gap now.

Just need to ring a lady in Mansfield who re-colours the leather, as the I don't think I can buff the scratches out.... So re-painting the leather I think is the best way forward (depending on price)

Cheers mate, It does help that the car is at Mario Motors though... And Barry is very willing to spread the knowledge and take / pickup items for me, when he's nipping out to pick up other bits.

Which I'm very greatful for, to say the least..  Saving me lots of time.

I few more items to go to the anodisers tomorrow.

The brake pad clips (front nd back)
A couple of rear caliper bolts
Front undertray screws
And
Steering rack bolts and washers

Not a lot I know, but worth getting done whilst the items are off the car.

If I can get the cross braces painted in black gloss this week, I can place the steering rack back in place, Althoug the 2 main plates that hold the steering rack to the cross member are going to the powder coaters this week too.
Not sure if Barry will have 2 mins to drop them off Monday, but you never know.
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on February 22, 2015, 05:36:51 PM
I have started to paint the cross members with black gloss, but because the temperatures are so low currently, it's not great trying to paint.... So this was only a quick cover coat, but I think it looks ok.

I was tempted to get a tin of grey (same colour as the primer), but I've got the black, and no-one see's it, so may as well carry on with black.

Pictures are not great I'm afraid, as I was loosing the natural light fast... So they are a little grainy.

So I managed to get to Barry's for an hour tonight before he eventually went home...!

So Got the last coat of 'dacrylate' black gloss on the front of the car.

So tomorrow will be :

Front antiroll bar back on, then start to work out how all the bits go back together :o

If the other items are ready at the powder coaters..... (I hope so)

I may be getting somewhere with the front of the car  ;D

New bushes pushed back into the lower arms

Bottom ball joint refitted to the lower arm (and that was no easy job.... Even though it should be)

Front anti-roll bar refitted, with new bushes

New track rod end fitted

Front shocks and springs reassembled

Steering rack bolted back in place, rack joints all re-greased, new steering rack gaiters fitted

Then the rebuild of the front has (slowly) started

I'm not 100% happy with the amount of wax on the new Anti-Roll bar bushes..   :(

Looks like I'll be cleaning them down once I have the bar in the right place and tightened up.

Must admin it didn't really see it yesterday when putting it together, but it certainly showed up on the the pictures... :o

If you don't like to see the scabby, peeling wax take it off with white spirits.  Get a 2B pencil and sand some of the graphite off.  Put the graphite on the bush, job done.  It doesn't rot the rubber like grease does.

Just had word fom Barry....

He picked up my seats from Ashley's, who has fixed the head rests, so they are now both level... ;D and has repaired the back of the drivers seats, so the flap of leather is not flappy around and showing the yellow foam under it.

He's not managed to fix the 'eyelets', as he would need to strip the seats fully to put them right... And the labour cost would be quite something...... So decided to not have this done yet...

But, Barry has now took them to a company in Ollerton, Notts who are now looking at trying to remove the scuffs off the seats...

So fingers crossed, they will come back looking like new  👍

Now don't get me wrong, there is still a fair amount to be done....
But If you saw all the bits on the floor last weekend, it's quite surprising how quickly it all started to go back on.

Little jobs like re-tapping threads, due to paint or powder coat is a pain, and time consuming..

Job still to be done...

I'm sure there is more.... But off the top off my head, this is it for now....

I've only driven her twice since I purchased her in Sept '14

As you say Wayne, she will be on her way to you at the end of the season to have a few scuffs and chips removed, then and only then I will be happy with the car..!

There are also discussions taking place with Barry to getting the car Turbo charged in the winter months too...
So she should be like a complete different girl after that :)

I'll keep you all update with the progress so far, but here's hoping for the 1st July :)

Morning guys, just a quick couple of pictures.

I went to see Barry yesterday, but can't do any work on the car currently as I've pulled my muscle in my back, and finding it hard to walk, let alone do any work on the car.

Anyway, Barry has been on a mission for me....

Some months back, you will all most likely remember I was trying to hunt down a pair of rubber Z flaps, as mine are all chewed up...!

Well, have a look below  ;D

Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on June 28, 2015, 10:25:01 AM
So, after no luck in tracking down a pair in rubber.... Barry has had these made from aluminium.

They are slightly larger too... As I always thought the originals were just a little on the small side, and you could see gaps, which I never liked.

I'm now thinking either
A) Matt black powder coat
B) Matt black stone chip paint
C) line-x coating

Just to make them look rubber.

Once these are on.... They are not going to chewed..!

Thanks a million Barry...  ;D :D

Hi Cheets,
The dimensions could be a little difficult give mate, as these are cut in all sort of directions.
They fit 100%, and the angles on them at amazing.
The engineering guy that Barry uses is a real star, and nothing seems to phase him.

If you want a set, I can ask Barry if he can get his engineering guy to cut another set?

Not sure on price yet though, as I haven't been told yet....   But if I know Barry (which I do know, every well.....), they won't be expensive.

Mick,
Thanks for that... That makes me feel som much better... Lol

Couple more picture of the engine today.

Barry has fitted the rocker cover and all the anodised bolts back to the engine now..

I think it looks the dogs b0110ck

A had a full day with Barry today, and managed to get 90% of the car all tightened up... Front and rear.

Still a few bolts to complete, but it should be completed this week.

So then it's down to building the new rear engine brace.... ;D (watch this space, as it will fit under the engine cover and have a 3 way brace...... ;D)

On a different note, the new aluminium Z flap that Barry had made, just need some slight alterations to make them fit 100%, so they have gone back to the engineering company for 'fine tweaking'..... So once these are back, the model will have been made, so anyone wanting a set, just needs to contact Barry (Mario)

Ok Phil,

Once the 'alterations, have been done to get them 100% I'll ask Barry to open a new thread, and everyone interested in a set can comment on that thread ;D

Can't wait to see the news ones....... As the original set, I was happy with, but everyone knows how Barry needs perfection.....

A fair bit of progress...!

Barry has been really busy, designing, building, and fitting my new rear brace.

The car didn't have one when I bought it, and even though I only drove it twice, I could tell the back end was loose on the car, and didn't feel tight.

So, Barry's been busy for me.....! And just sent me these pictures through.

I wish I could take the credit for this one Paul, but I really can't..

Barry has done all the work on this.. I've done nothing (apart from choose the colour of the powder coat)

Barry designed, cut, welded and adjusted... To get that small masterpiece done.

I haven't see it yet, only got the pictures, so I'm looking forward to getting down to see how good it looks..

He's also sent my engine heat shields to the powder coaters too, so can't wait to see them also.

So now the brace is in place and bolted down.

The air intake is next to be done.
The new pipe is only half of the intake.  The air filter will sit behind the rear wheel arch. Then a pipe from the air side pod blowing onto the filter.

The second part of the pipe is now away at the power coaters to get painted.

Barry has managed to get it to fit onto the new rear brace too  ;D
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on September 27, 2015, 11:42:38 PM
A fair amount achieved on Saturday.

New extended air intake pipe added, so air filter is now behind the wheel arch.

New powder coated heat shields refitted

Newly painted CAT refitted...

AND.......

she was started for the first time in a year...
And she started first time.

So a fair bit of work to do, getting the new exhaust system fitted, As i don't believe the original DNA fitting is too good, as the main back box isn't held that securily.  Then this could Of been the reason my original exhaust cracked.
So a few mods to come, to get the exhaust system fitted sturdy this time.

I'm trying Wayne.

Next is to get the new exhaust mounted now..
Barry is looking into creating a new support bracket for the main back box.
This should hopefully stop the new exhaust from cracking  ;)

New stainless exhaust heat shield made and fitted.

Because my car has a stainless (non-standard) exhaust manifold.  The standard manifold heat shield doesn't fit... So Barry got busy with sheet of 3mm stainless sheet.

So after cutting and bending.
Barry made two support brackets for the shield and painted them  ;D

Dave then spent hours with different grades of 'wet & dry' and then buffed the stainless to a mirror finish... (Whilst I was at work)

Just look at the finish on this...

Post by: Lee22 on October 15, 2015, 11:10:13 PM
And finally for now, we decided that the bottom of the car wasn't finished until all surface rust marks had been removed...
So here we go.

Last Saturday I sent hours with a wire wheel on a drill rubbing all the floor pan down, to get rid of all the surface rust.

This area was then sprayed with 'Acid8' etch and primer.

After this had gone off, the car was wrapped in sheeting, and the proper spraying began....

Barry mixed 1/4ltr of 2 pack black gloss with stonechip U-Pol, and started to paint.  ;D

And this is the outcome....

Got a cross bar same as this on mine and I agree, it transforms the handling and stability of the car.
Reduces flex and the car feels more solid. Well worth it.

Thanks guys for the comments.

I'm really happy with the car at the moment, íts coming on really well now.... Well it has been at Barry's for a year now  :o

I'm especially happy with the new exhaust shield that Barry and Dave have made for me....

Still lots to do, but hopefully Barry and myself will have all day on the car tomorrow, so hoping to get the new stainless exhaust fitted.... Which isn't going to be easy, as I'm a little particular to where the tail pipes fit.  I don't want them stuck out at all... So I'm taking a few pictures with me in the morning, so we can see where the ones on the real 430 sit...
As you can see from the picture below, they don't stick out very far on the real car.... so hoping to match this, but I can see this being quite a job (Pictures tomorrow night to follow  :D)

And 'Madman'...., Barry is already on it mate... As I bought 2 and Barry has the second one  ;D

Evening all,

Well today didn't really go to plan  ??? But there again, when does it ever go to plan  ::)

So we managed to eventually get the new under brace fitted to the car...

Not exactly 'Plug and Plug', as I thought it would be.....

A few little mods were needed to get the brace fitted.... Including, extending some of the bolt holds in the original H brace under the front of the car.
So after a few hours or messing, it did actually fit... But one main issue is the Square section on the new brace actually touches and rubs on the centre plate that holds the braces for the radiator pipes and air con pipes.
So Barry added some touch rubber hose to the brace bars and secured them with zip ties.
So it's all done  ;D

This then didn't leave much time for trying to get the exhaust fitted.... But then came the next problem... The new stainless exhaust doesnt actually fit  :(

I suppose this is the problem in getting the exhaust made without the car being there to dry fit it all.

So Barry is going to do what he can, but he doesn't have the tools to bend stainless exhaust pipe, so looks like he will refit the silencer then have to take the car somewhere to get the outer pipes and tail pipes fitted  :(

If it's not one thing, it's another...  >:(

It's a shame you won't see the hard work Paul, unless I bring some mirror to the shows  ;D

But at least I know everything is better than new now under the skin.

So when she comes home, I have serious work inside to do.

Just not sure when I need to take it down to Wayne's..? I have a list as long as your arm I need Wayne to do, to get it back to how it was when Wayne completed it a few years back.  But really looking forward to getting it back to 'Mint' condition, in every aspect.

I'm taking a few bits to 'CarInk' in Sheffield tomorrow, to have them Hydro dipped in carbon fibre effect.
I know 'Wizard' used them to dip a fair few bits and it looked amazing..  So I'll post some pictures when I get them back

I can't believe Steve, the first day she's been outside for just over 12 months, and it threw it down with rain on her.. :'(

But, she's been to an exhaust specialist today in Nottingham, to get the new stainless exhaust fitted correctly.

Then luckily I've managed to get her booked into DynoTech at Ripley for the full 4 wheel alignment.

So not long now unit the MOT  ;D

Hello Lee, how is it going your end. I had a quick question...

You mention a few times that when it is raining the car stays tucked up indoors.

Unless I am missing something obvious, What is the reason you only drive in the dry?

Cheers, Wayne-in London.

I cant comment for Lee but I don't drive mine in the rain or even mildly moist either.... ;D for me its about having the roof down, hearing the v6 and hopefully enjoying some sunshine.....plus I don't really want to spend ages cleaning the inside of the wheels, body work etc. to get all the salt and crap off....I guess in a tin top its a different matter....probably wouldn't drive that in the rain either ha ha....but good on you if you do Wayne as you are out enjoying it....have fun.

Hi Wayne,
As you may have seen from the pictures I have been adding to the forum for the last 13 months, I've been spending lots of time and money trying to get the underside of the car as shiney as the top of the car.

Now I know people say, 'we'll you can't see underneath the car Lee, so why bother....'.

My answer.... 'Because I know it's done. And I know I've done everything I can to get this car as good as new'.

So I don't fancy spending 13 months of hard work and money to get the underside mucky and rusty.

I hope this explains? But I've been the same since I did the Westfield too... In 20 years, that's never seen any damp running either... :D

Jet wash / power washer?? REALLY...!

WATER... WATER... WATER..! I don't think so..!

Once year I hope to get the car on the 4 post lift, wipe the dust all off the underside and then polish all the struts, arms, back plates, etc..
I'll not be flicking any power wash under my car..!

So, a few bits are still getting done on the car over the summer but not much.

But today I had a knock at the door and mark was stood there with a big box in his hands.

And just look what he's managed to find for me...... (thanks mark, your a super star..!)

It's an original Ferrari subwoofer with the speakers in and working 100%...

To say I'm happy is a bit of an understatement.  It's not going to be straight forward to fit, as I need to look at cutting the back fibreglass plate out so it will fit further back into the storage bins, but once in the right position, it looks like I will be able to get the seats pushed back, and still be able to get my hand up to release the roof catch..

So a little bit of head scratching, but I believe it will fit in perfect ;D

looking good lee i did a way with the roof catch as i did  not feel it was needed as wen it is the Mr2 you need the catch to stop the roof coming up but as we have it you have the back deck

There will be a need for cutting, that's for sure Madman, but I think a small junior hacksaw will do the job   ;D
The speak just fits too far forward, as the fibreglass of the car at the top needs cutting away, then the speaker will sit up against the round bar that is behind it.
I think I'm going to have to nibble away at the storage boxes too, to lower it slightly too.  But after saying all of that, it's not that far away now, but the seats won't go back until the speaker sits inside the storage area.

Can't say I'm happy about cutting away the fibreglass section, to be honest  :-\

No mate

Sound Recorded on an iPhone (other mobiles available), does not give you any representation of the sound quality.

Plus you're possibly going to be listening to it on laptop speakers..! So a bit pointless creating YouTube videos of sound, don't you think?

It's easier to modify a car that's excellent in the first place.

I'm only improving on what is already an awesome motor..
Can't wait to get the centre console finished and the rest of the dash sorted.
Not forgetting the amazing work Mark's doing for me on my engine cover... that is just looking more and more amazing every day... and a HUGE thanks to Mark for all the help on a fair few things these last few weeks.. ;D

Then hopefully, out and  about in this lovely sunshine to make the most of my beauty girl..!

Yes Seriph.. everything is getting upgraded to the best I can find.

Engine cover is all betting cut up and original parts are getting bonded in and painted up to look as close to the original as we can get

Pictures to follow soon

Well I must thank Mark for all his help and work he's put into cutting up my fake engine cover.

Lots of work has gone into this so far, and we've spent a full day today rubbing down, adding sections and making it look just right

Still lots to do, but the basic shape is getting there.

I've not posted on my thread for a while due to all the work being carried out in my Red 430.

But, after seeing what Barry had done for other customers with the Fake Calipers, I decided it was time to do mine too.

Plus, the washers behind the Allen key bolts on the calipers where not tight /flush to the bolt, so they were rattling when driving.

So decided to take them off, remove all the Allen key bolts and get the strengthening bar welded into the arms for greater strength. (Hopefully will stop then bouncing)

So after a quick run out after fixing the fake calipers back into the car..

Next problems

Looks like I have either a broken spring, or knackered shocker on the front drivers side.. :(

Looks like the car is 'slammed' to the floor  ;D

Plus going to have to get front bumper to Wayne too, to repair and paint, as it hit the floor going around a roundabout  :o

A massive thanks to Mark for coming over from MK last night to lend me and help to fit a new shock and spring to the drivers side front.

I've still got the passenger side to change to the new shock and spring too, but thought we would take it for a quick spin to see how it was

Wow, can't believe how good it felt, and now no scraping on the inner lining, and now the ride hight is spot on

I had the horses embroidered on my headrests, and one on the rear "seats".  Roland said I shouldn't have as Ferrari seats were embossed.  But I had them 'cos I liked them.  Ferrari have now introduced them as an option.

So bloody awesome mate. These additions are subtle and IMHO very acceptable.

Saw a real one yesterday - yellow - it parked in a Bunnings (one of those hardware megastores) ... its idle seemed really high but I guess that's Frrrri for ya.

Anyway, yours is bloody brilliant.

Thanks people

I must admit, they look better than I ever imagined...

I looked into embossing the horse instead of stitching, but because I have white stitched horses on the front of the head rests, I think it ties in really well.

I don't want to go over the top with horses, as it gets 'tacky' and looks like a cheap replica.. but because these are hidden from view most of the time, as the seats hide them..  I think they are fine  ;D

Another massive thanks to Mark for his time on Saturday night.... wow a late one.

But we got back to my house quite late Saturday night and decided to swap the passenger side shocker.

So under flood lights on the drive we decided to undertake this little job.

Well I must say, from start to finish, and rebuilding all the front Frunk & wheel arch lining too, it was just over an hour..

So really happy, and owe mark a massive favour for helping out ;D

Just need to test drive it now

So.......

Been looking at this for months and months....

Mark very kindly spent hours upon hours creating a mould for the centre consol for
My car, and this weekend we decided to have a go and try and pull consol out of it..!

Well I think it’s come out pretty good, if I do say so myself.

Granted, we had to smash the mould to get it out, but well worth it.

We used some really good fibreglass stuff from a mate and the release wax was brilliant, but because of the angles, it was a pig to release from the mould, so easier to smash the mould instead.

Still a fair amount of work on it to get it 100% and to sit in the car correctly, but it’s come out a lot better than both mark and myself ever thought it would do.

Cheers mark 👍🏻

Ok, I promised more pictures once a bit more work on the console was done, so here we are...

So the sections were cut out for the various items, like ash tray, switches and windows switches.

I’ve got the ‘Original’ Ferrari ashtray and the mirrors / hazard switches, so fitting these.

Once these had been cut out, we noticed the finish on the console isn’t prefect, so it’s been rubbed down (by hand) and filled with fibreglass filler and P38.

Still a long way to go, before I can look at getting it painted, but it’s coming on.

Again, another long day with Mark in Milton Keynes, but thanks for all the help mark 👍🏻

It’s got to be the same anthracite as stripes and the rest of the bits in the car Wayne, as it will look Like the grey scripe continues down through the centre of the car then...!

Thinking of having the bottom the console (may be 3 inches up from the bottom) flocked, after painting to match the carpet  :o

But a lot of decisions yet, and I still need to make sure it fits between my seats, as it’s a little wider than the original
MR2 console  :o

As some of you may have see, mark added the clock and light pod from the Ferrari to the top windscreen plastic..

Well I couldn’t resist and had to copy this on mine, but was a little tricky as my plastics are all painted in anthracite grey.  So one wrong slip and I would have knackered the plastics, and would have been an expensive repaint too..

Anyway, things went swimmingly well (thanks to the help of mark in his lounge one night  ;D)

But we noticed that the clock / light pod was visible from the front of the car through the windscreen, so we both decided that a blacked out section was needed to mask the vision of the back of the pod..

So here’s the section I’ve just cut out and added to the car

Just need to Wire it all up now and get the car back together.

For any of you wondering what I’m doing with the original mr2 clock, well, that’s coming out, and being replaced with 2 USB charging ports 👍🏻

(Please excuse the bad pictures, but it’s hard with the camera in he garage with artificial lights..)
Title: Re: Just some quick Picts...
Post by: Lee22 on March 11, 2019, 10:37:01 PM
So, it’s been a few days since I mentioned the addition of the black strip on the windscreen to stop you seeing the reverse side of the Ferrari clock and light pod..

Well, I’ve had to wait for a good friend to come over to help remove the snapped bolts that hold the roof catches to windscreen top.

At some point, these 4 bolts have been removed from the car, and then put back in with 3 tone of thread lock..... ::) which made the removale of the bolts near on impossible..
Anyway, steve came over with some extremely sharp drills and a new Tap, and managed the drill the bolts out and re-tap the threads, so all as good as new..! 👍🏻

So now this is done, I can look at getting the car back together again 🤗

Love the workmanship you've put into this car, particularly the bits you cant see (ie underneath), need to give my 430 Spider that treatment.
Will investigate front and rear crossbrace like you have, seems to need something to increase the stability.

Can you tell me about those great seats, whats the story?

Lee, will you be at Stoneleigh in a couple of weeks with the car?

Thanks in advance
