Morning guys,
I thought I'd just share this.
As most of you know, the MR2 front spacers are designed to run with bolts holding the wheels to the spacer, where as, on the rear of the car, you use wheel nuts.
I never liked this from day one... So decided to look into this.
Not the easiest of conversions, I must admit.... But I didn't want to just screw in studs from the front, as i don't believe the length of the stud inside the spacer is enough to be 100%...... Just my opinion..
So, after a few days thinking about it, I asked one of Barry's mates, to drill out the spacer to allow me to fit 4 high tensile studs from the rear.
Then the 5th bolt would have to be a long (fully threaded) bolt, that bolted through the hub, into the spacer and then allowing the wheel to hang on it.
This is where the difficulty came in........
Finding a M12 with a 1.5 thread, high tensile bolt, that was fully thread the full length of the 80mm, was just impossible.
So again I turned to Barry's mate, to see if he could extend the standard thread on a 80mm 10.9 HT bolt, all the way down the bolt.....
This he managed to do in the CNC machine at work.... So not only having the spacers done, I got the bolt I needed too.
Steve also made me some more, new M12 sleeves for the bolts, that fit inside the hub when you place the bolt in from the back...
So, It was just the case of threading all the bolts as normal into the hub (as well as the large 80mm one, and hoping for the best....
As you can see from the pictures...... I'm pretty impressed with the results, and I'm now happy that the whole car is now running on studs, and not having to worry about having to the stick the fake brake disc to the spacer on the front, before locating the wheel....
