Thanks MADMAN, unfortunately I've tried all that - heat didn't seem to make any difference (maybe I didn't get it hot enough! but it sure seemed like it) and I went out and got sockets and spanners that claim to drive on the flats all to no avail. I'm fed up with wasting time on a couple of nuts so it's angle grinder time.

Thanks guys! I'm well practised now in the art of hitting nuts and bolts in an effort to get tham loose - it first started when I had to remove the rear three quarter panel and the bolts/ screws by the door wouldn't come undone - they did eventually. However these last two nuts have proved impossible!
Thanks for your concern DNA - much appreciated - I'll double check before I cut them off

Mine are real solid - the nuts are getting rounded where the socket turns on them. My nice new spanners are having their jaws deformed.... hence if the nuts don't want to play then it's time to stop being mr nice guy and show them the splitter!

OK, that's it!! I must officially be a weakling! Nothing will shift the 17mm horizontal bolt on the lower arm nor the 19mm nut on the ball joint - both on the off-side. Next weekend it's a nut splitter or angle grinder..... The ball joint gets replaced as part of the kit so it doesn't matter what I do! As for the horizontal bolt - I've ordered up a new bolt, nut and spacer from Toyota (approx £7).
I'm fed up with all these siezed bolts etc that I've had to undo, or failed to undo!
When it comes to bolting the ball joint onto the lower arm - which way is the most common? Bolt the plate on top of the arm, or underneath it? Elsewhere on the forum the photos of the bigger discs suggest that it's been bolted underneath, although DNA suggest on top.
On a postive note on progress - the doors have been cut down and I've tried fitting the new outer door skins, along with just resting the front end and bonnet on the car - actually looks like I've done something! At last some visible progress, better stop now while I'm feeling good about it and before I encounter the next challenge.

There's progress, but it's slow! The rear springs have been changed - that took two days - I think a "trained gorilla" had done up some of the nuts!
The front suspension mods are a work in progress - the gorilla got there as well! Despite liberal application of WD40 and shock tactics some nuts are proving stubborn. It's not just that I'm a weakly southerner - perhaps they don't make strong 19mm sockets anymore.... (having to go out and buy replacement sockets and spanners tends to slow you down.) Next weekend, methinks, weather permitting, will see the completion of the front suspension.  Another update then - tenpin

I'll try and get there, but unlikely to have the car - it's scheduled to be in the paintshop then. tenpin

how many members on this forum went to stoneliegh, building cars or not,fbp3rd

I went on Sunday, (can't say I'm really building - I've got two sets of bits - those from an MR2 and those for a 360), but at least I made the effort to get there. tenpin

Time has passed and I now have a set of front wings, rear 3 quarter panels, wheel arch liners, bumpers and front and rear lights as well as two door cards and a disassembled hood filling the garage, house etc. (I may have missed some bits, either because they're buried in the pile somewhere or I've tripped over them so many times I know where not to step without looking!). In short the build has well and truly started.
Along the way I managed to get to Stoneleigh on Sunday, and put a few faces to names (unfortunately far too few, but maybe the next show we can do better).

Hi, what are the dials made of? I guess the real question is will it be possible to cut extra holes in those dials for the gear indicator etc without spoiling them? 'cos it woud be good to get a re-calibrated speedo dial! - tenpin

Meets and Events / Re: Stoneleigh Kit Car Show May 2008 UK Biggest !

I'm planning on visiting Stoneleigh, probably on Sunday, so let's have a big flag so we know where to meet! How many cars are we going to get there? Unfortunately mine won't be done by then, so I'll have to use a bigger vehicle - maybe I can buy lots of bits (and be able to take them home) for the kit.
I think the logo on the flag would look quite good as a bonnet badge, anyone else agree?

Hi, pokerbrat welcome
DNA have shipped a kit to the states, so I'm sure it would be possible to get one to Canada. (now that there's not much difference between the two dollars - one loonie = approx one buck give or take a few cents, could be a good time to go for it!)
Whereabouts in CA do you live?

Hi, here's the photo of the dials from an SMT. As you can see some extra holes would be needed, and would restrict the position of any logo, Let me know what you think.

Been a while - so quick update. I've collected my kit and had the required panic attack at the thought of what I'm about to undertake.
I've had another look at a completed kit - that helped soothe things down and it really seems quite straightforward.
I'm using the donor as my daily vehicle at the moment, but D-day (dismantle day) is coming soon. The current plan is to start the build before Stoneleigh, so that I can go there and pick everyone's brains.... So within the next week, my garage which is full of bits for the DNA kit will be full of discarded panels from the MR2.
