Rear quarter light window
« on: March 25, 2017, 05:48:36 PM »
Hi all
rear quarter light window not working, wont go up or down on the switch or when operating roof so roof will get so far but then stop as window is up.I can hear a click when trying it on the door switch but window won't go down, does not move at all,is there anything other than maybe a knackered window motor.

Thanks Mike.
Car is Merc sl500 2002 west coast.

I had this with my Sl, can you hear the motor working?  My drain hole had become blocked and the wire that runs on the pulleys had rusted through and snapped. Managed to get a 2nd hand replacement from Ebay in the US, much cheaper than a 2nd hand UK unit.

Mike.  When we were working on The Slugs car we came to the conclusion it was haunted.   Carried out an exorcism and washed it in holly water.  Seemed to solve the problem.   A new battery probably worked as well.
Not all problems can be solved with gaffer tape.  For those there is WD40.
Not even gaffer tape can fix stupid, but it can mask the sound.

If you can’t buy it or steal it you have to make it.

Can't be bad has trying to do a permanent fix to a baffle that has fell off in the petrol tank. Hand to splice it open to repair

By the way that plate welded in with a square cut out is the Kalifornia solution to rectify Mercedes stupid flimbsy baffle, that I could have crunched up like newpaper.

This was the mercedes baffle I threw out. A second hand tank would just have meant the risk of it happening again

Sorry Kal, no can do.   This machine will only print up to 215mm long.  Not only that but 3D prints are not water (petrol) proof as they are just strips of melted plastic stuck together.

I was a bit surprised to see that the inside of your tank was just plain metal as most these days have a plastic liner to stop petrol migrating through the steel.  It doesn't leak, it just sort of ouzes.  Thinking about it I have noticed that over the winter months the fuel has gone down in my car.

Either that Mick, or you leave the car running longer to use your heaters. lol

Anyway here is the tank all welded up and completed. Just got to fit it in again and put hundreds of pieces of trim back on.

Kal.  Who welded that.  The last time I saw welding like that pidgeons were gathering round to look at it.  I'm very surprised it passed a pressure test.
