West coast towing eye
« on: August 04, 2016, 08:49:23 AM »
Had a few bits and pieces laying around in my garage after getting a puncher the week before i was wondering what happens if I break down and my car needs to go onto a transporter so came up with this idea.

photos 1 and 2, the screwing bit,
photo 3  drilled 2 holes through the two double box sections,
photo 4 bolted plate with nut welded to it, and another big plate on the back,
photo 5 the finished towing eye

With the front cali extended platform, a straight pull wouldn't present any problem, but when the car is pulled up on a transporter it could bend your extension piece and possible damage part of the bumper. Another option would be to use a tow strap as seen on many boy racer cars, here most of the time it's a bit of added bling, but for yours an essential bit of kit if you run into trouble

Don't have a cali, but mine will definitely get one

Well, I'm into the 11th year of the project, could it be ready for Stoneleigh 2020, doubt it. The longest DNA build ever

Thanks D

for the Info, my grill is held in by 4 small bolts which will take a couple of minutes to remove, the towing eye is just for loading onto a trailer not the towing down the road, but the strap looks very interesting. Thanks again for the information.
