Hi Slug ,  out of interest  is the existing door key hole accessible at all once the DNA body kit has been fitted ? I presume it is .  I ask because i've have had a flat rear battery a couple of times and i needed to use the  key to open the car.  How do you do this once the DNA body panel's have been fitted ?

The boot retains the key lock so you can get access to the rear battery and charge or swap it, or jump it, as needs be to gain access. The original door locks are not accssable once the door skin is fitted.
I will know better when the car comes back from paint and I can start putting it all back together.

Calling all members who may be free this weekend to lend a hand getting my Westcoast to an MOT stage, or I'm going to miss Stoneleigh......

Still to fit are my headlights, washer jets and exhaust, also have an odd issue with 1 number plate light not working. traced the wiring back to the Merc plug and no power at the plug ...Almost as if the car has switched it off!!

I will be at it again tonight, so hopefully will have some of it done by Sat.

If your free, interested, or just plain fancy lending a hand, let me know I would appreciate it.

Located in Nuneaton just outside Coventry.

Thanks
Ian

How far have you got?

I have a reason to have it on the road next weekend.

It wont be finished just legal to drive.
Whats left, Lights to set up, exhaust to bolt in then it should be ready. Mind just found out one of headlight units is faulty so that may be the end of my chances as I work away most of the week.

As some of you know I did manage to get the car Driven to Stoneleigh in time for the show.

However we did have 2 items that refused to work
1. Ns Number plate light
2 Softclose on the boot...

Pleased to say both now fixed
Dropped the car to our local electrical guru for the light and he soon found a fault in the Merc loom multi plug bargain £20

Alas the soft close was not so affordable!!
Having taken the lock unit apart and testing it with a vacuum tested we had a leak.. took the manifold out and sealed all the ball bearings and what ever looked like a hairline crack. Dried and tested...holds a vacuum...rebuilt tested again...leaking......
Tested all the separate bits and the white holding tank also had a leak but I could not find it.....

So £330 later for the new one and now the boot works... result.. Just need to get the paint repaird now where the boot got pressed into it..!!

Next the MOT...!

Not just Stoneleigh but Ragley hall.  Just the three West Coasts and Tricky's 250 GT.  Busy all day and my nose got sunburnt (again).

Trentham next weekend and then Castle Coomb.
Not all problems can be solved with gaffer tape.  For those there is WD40.
Not even gaffer tape can fix stupid, but it can mask the sound.

If you can’t buy it or steal it you have to make it.

Just to add to my wow's.....
Having found I still had a current MOT before Stoneleigh it now less then a month away so took it in today. Failed....

"lower suspension bushes had excessive signs of wear and need replacing"

Now I thought, well that's not so bad a bit of a rubber bush to swap out, then they tell me you cant get the bust its all part of the front strut and that's £1200  then lets chat about the labour and the 4 weeks before we can do it......

Anyone else had such good news like this?

Anyone know a man that can replace the bush????    :'( :'( :'(

So after some trawling on the web I have found this place the repairs them.

http://www.4wheelalignment.co.uk

Price £95 + vat and shipping so I recon £150 all in, they try and turn them around the same day.
Now just need to find how to remove it and where to get Pentosin ABC fluid from.

I bought some original Mercedes  hydraulic fluid from http://www.partsformercedes-benz.com/   , if i remember  rightly a place on Amazon was selling  Pentosin .     I have a dodgy ball joint on my SL500  , my local independent wants to replace the whole strut £1200 ,  apparently it wont pass its next MOT in October.
