Slugs Build
« on: March 12, 2016, 06:48:18 PM »
So a bit slow in posting, but having sold my ListerBell Stratos after an offer too good to turn down, I saw a bunch of you guys at Castle Combe last year all packing up.
Tenpin was good enough to keep you all waiting whilst he showed me the boot of the car.
If you have ever looked in the boot of a Stratos you may be surprised at the size, larger than the SL500! and as far as the other half goes a, vital part of retail happiness!
I made the executive decision the Westcoast was to be my next project.

A pointless search with several dealers produces a bunch of cars that I would be ashamed to have advertised, but eventually I found this one.

With it jacked up the stripdown can start with removing the wings and inner liners etc

Hi Slug,
Your donor looks a lot my my sl 500,  Are you just striping it down and getting DNA to fit the panels , or are you putting the new panels on your self?   Also are you selling the removed parts on ebay ?

Hi I stripped and chopped it and started to fit a panel, but events at home took over, so Brian has put the panels on it for me in the end.

I will be trying to sell the parts on unless anyone here is looking for bits!

Hi Slug

Great to see you've started a build diary. I will be following with great interest

I am seriously thinking of doing a Westcoast build soon(ish) and was looking at the donor cars. I was going to try and get one that was black (like yours) for the sole reason that under the panels I thought the chassis of the SL would also be black, thus keeping underneath a neutral colour, so-to-speak.

But looking at your photos, it seems underneath the chassis is not black, but more light grey. Is it like this on the whole of the car?

Thanks

Paulie

Thanks Kal and thanks for letting me look at your's the other day.

Paulie when the body is fitted you won't see any of the underside of the panels just the same as when it was a Merc.

I will post more pics when I get home.

So in Jan it was time to pass the car over to Brian to finish the body fit and send to paint.

And change it for Carbon fiber.
