Rear Glass Hatch... Plastic lifespan?
« on: March 30, 2015, 07:56:51 AM »
Little concernered with the headlights plastic and the rear hatch plastic durability of how long it will last looking new before it scratches easily, starts to turn yellow from the UV, and haze/fogs up. Curious if there might be a real glass hatch option out there. Thoughts or imputs on this...

Gears.

The best thing to do with plastic screens and covers is keep them clean by washing them with lots of water with screen wash in to prevent scratching, but you need to wash the body afterwards to stop the screen wash leaving stains.  You can also get a cleaner/coating for plastic which stops UV from damaging it.

If your plastic is badly scratched you can get cleaners to remove the scratches and I have  heard that you can use tooth paste to renovate headlights but the thought of doing the rear screen with a tooth brush is not funny, although the thought of the look on neighbour's faces if they see you cleaning your car with a tooth brush is.

Not all problems can be solved with gaffer tape.  For those there is WD40.
Not even gaffer tape can fix stupid, but it can mask the sound.

If you can’t buy it or steal it you have to make it.

Hi I use cutting/finishing compounds from a manufacturer called 3M and buy them from Brown Brothers automotive factors.(OTHERS ARE AVAILABLE) These have varying levels of cutting abrasion from mid grade to a fine finishing cream. I use them on the paintwork but they work just great on the Perspex cover/headlights, wheels etc. you can prob get them online.
