Thanks Furrari!! I was asking because I am thinking of getting an 03-04 sl55 and convert it to 2008 widebody. But now with this kit I am leaning towards this.
With the 430 yea it's very good but rounded side window of the mr2 kinda gives it away.
by the way, is that block one yours, or yours is being built apart from that?
also, how are the dimensions on this compared to the california? wheelbase, height, width, and overall length the same or very close?

Bigger brakes? The SL55 AMG uses big 6 pot callipers on bigger discs but the 500 stops pretty well as standard as it uses "Brake by Wire" with electronic distribution and anti-lock. The SL was the flagship model of the Merc range. Replica brakes with bigger discs like the 430 will not be available as the track only increases by about an inch a side so there is no room. I think a cover for the calliper may be available.
The colour will be YELLOW and black. As the SL is available with a Panoramic glass roof (which the Furrari has) it shows up black from outside (the glass covers the whole of the centre section) it only needs the bit above the screen painting gloss black to match the California. The back is already black each side of the glass.

How does it look against a Ferrari California? Pretty damn close. The rear window not quite dead on but it is the right shape. DNA are working on this. The panel between the indicators where the number plate fits is again the right shape but due to the way the SL boot opens is in two parts rather than one. You would have to very observant to notice this. I knew it was like that from the buck but you would don't see it. We are working on a way to CF dip this to match too match some other bits I am having both inside and out.
Any giveaway that it's a replica? No. It's closer than the 430 was, and that was good. It's overall impression is one of sheer awesomeness that will have unbelievable road presence; a lot more than the SL although it's the same length and only about 2" wider.
Beany.
I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole. You can get a good straight on for not much more. You don't know what damage has been done that you can't see. Even a high milage SL should be good (up to 100K if it's been looked after). It's difficult to stress a 5 litre V8 and live. On the motor way I get 28 to the gallon but Walsall on a Friday afternoon your lucky to see double figures but then it does take over an hour to do five miles.
As I said on the Furrari build thread. Please form an orderly que behind me.
We saw it Thursday, even my lady wife was impressed and is looking forwards to driving it, and she never drove the 430.
