3D printer thought.
« on: March 16, 2014, 08:19:19 PM »
There are clearly many gifted/talented people in the DNA community and this is shown is the excellent quality of self builds.

The detail and quality that goes into certain aspects of the modifications, are outstanding. To name a few:

Hardtop,
Replica dash
custom interior.
Replica keys

And the list goes on.......

With the recent invention of the 3D printers surely this can be used to replicate certain aspects of the build.
Just a suggestion, if someone were to build a centre console, custom dash, or a replica key etc, then they "may" be able to get it "scanned" and possibly sell the scan so other DNA member can use this to replicate it for their own build using a 3D printer company.

Not sure if this will work of not, but thought its worth putting the thought out there.

Ps I don't think they got a 3D printer big enough for the Lords hardtop (yet)....!

having something scanned and 3D printed is only cost offective if your trying to copy the other hand, like making a drivers side mirror and scanning it and getting it printed into a passenger side mirror, once you have your shape its so much cheaper to just make a mold ov it... the good old fashioned way lol

but yh, 3D printing is the future lol

I've booked myself onto a 3D training tomorrow in Central London with imakr.com

If anyone has any questions that would like me to ask, let me know and I'll try my best to understand all this technical stuff.

Kal.  I'm sure it would but they would not qualify as warm and/or breathing.  :-)

Not all problems can be solved with gaffer tape.  For those there is WD40.
Not even gaffer tape can fix stupid, but it can mask the sound.

If you can’t buy it or steal it you have to make it.

A good bit of what I do for a living is 3D modeling, is that a useful skill in 3D printing? If it is, i might try it.
