OK just a few pics of the SL in bits.

PIC 1
Front wing removed.

PIC 2
Sill and rear bumper removed.

PIC 3
Boot mat and spare wheel removed but boot carpet still in place.

PIC 4
Door cards removed.  The three speakers in each door can just be seen.  Where most cars just have a sheet of plastic over the door the Merc has a sheet of foam.

PIC 5
Showing the size of the V8 lump.

Not all problems can be solved with gaffer tape.  For those there is WD40.
Not even gaffer tape can fix stupid, but it can mask the sound.

If you can’t buy it or steal it you have to make it.

Do you need to change any of the structure, or does it remain intact?

Also do you know how similar it will be to a real one in terms of measurements?

I don't think there are many structural changes other than cutting away the rear wheel arches to allow for the 1" increase in track (1" per side).  At the front this is taken care of by the new wings.
Dimensionally I think it's very close, it certainly looks it.

A mixed day.

On the down side we can't turn the ignition key so we can't open the roof.  We put all the electrical bits back, - nothing.  Hope to have a man from the local Merc specialists (WDM) look at it.

On the up side the headlight mountings are due in tomorrow so I should have them by the end of the week.  As soon as Luke (Trim Tech Solutions) takes the other bits to go for chroming apart I can get them done.

I have even found a company within a couple of miles of DNA who chrome plastics.  I'll contact them tomorrow.  There will be pics of these.

I don't know about Roland but Brian can be bribed with a bag of doughnuts.  :-)

Took John from WDM to DNA today but to no avail as the batteries ( yes there are two) were flat.  Don't know why as they were OK yesterday. ?
I'll charge them up and try again.
Luke (Trim Tech Solutions) the trim man has emailed me a picture of the connections to the switch and I think the problem is an interlock cable but we can't find it.  Luke said he will come down if needed.
It's all probably easy if you know what you are doing.

We will get there in the end.

Teething problems I'm sure. But the wiring did look like it was a space ship when I saw it yesterday. Better luck today.

Phill
I will post pics of chroming etc as available.  As I am waiting for other bits to go to chroming in one go, it will probably be next week now.  I hope to pick up the headlight bits tomorrow and take it to the chromers to see if they can do.  There won't be any pictures but we will know if it's doable.

Kal. It looks as though both batteries have failed.( strange that both failed at the same time, not just flat but buggered). The front battery is Merc dealer only.

My daughters Ford Focus has just "sucked" all the juice out of a brand new battery fitted by the AA man whilst he was there in about 10 mins!!.....In the end, it was a faulty alternator that was showing nearly 94 degrees heat 5 mins after the new battery was connected without the engine even being started (thanks AA man...saved me just replacing the battery and then it not being the cure!)
