Well, I'm into the 11th year of the project, could it be ready for Stoneleigh 2020, doubt it. The longest DNA build ever

Fuel cap is ok from a Mk3 as I asked Brian on Friday. They all do the job. I just ordered mine.
Mirrors- can everybody give us advise on bolt option.

Going to look into aqua dipping option for components as I'm visiting a company that do this.
I will keep you updated if it's of interest to anybody.
Could be interesting for interior components, etc. carbon look, aluminium, etc.

I bonded my mirrors on before the car went to paint and they had to be carefully removed with some piano so they could be painted off the car. Awkward angles to paint at if they are fitted apparently, although I believe madman has painted them insitu before?

If I did it again I would probably make up a plate with bolts welded to it that could be bonded to the inside of the mirror, then fitted to the triangular area at the top of the door with another plate on the rear, so they could be removed.

Having said that, they are perfectly strong enough having been bonded on and I'm sure either the mirror itself or the door panel would break before the bond failed, if it was to get whacked.

Beany. ;D

Only partially correct -
The mirrors on the 5cudo are bonded to a plate, which is then bolted to the door. On the 3Sixty (and I believe 4Thirty) they are bonded directly to the triangular piece on the door.

Here we go....my first day on the stripdown or 1.5 hours anyway....

I thought I would start nice and easy and remove the rear engine cover...

Need to remove this cover so that the 3rd brake light can be removed:

I then removed the bonnet:

then the rear lights:

I then decided to remove the rear wheel linings to get at the rear bumper fixings....I have never known so many clips and bolts needed to hold a piece of plastic in place!!

Can I discard both of the "nappies" now? do we not use either of them again?

Next it was now easier to get at the bumper retainers, so off it came!

Dont forget to remove the number plate lights, I also then used a piece of cardboard to draw the cutout shape for the number plate lights so I can use this on the kit:

And thats it for now!! it will be weekend before the next update.....

how she looks now....

Great start Phil.

It's incredible how quickly these cars come apart.

You don't need the wheelarch liners, but keep all screws and bolts etc as they can and will come in handy. Also any little plastic trims that you don't think you'll need, keep cos you never know.

When you said about removing the third brakelight, was that merely to sell it? As your comprehensive kit will include a new correct third brake light.

OK guys, managed to get another 3 hours on the car tonight.

Its amazing how easy these are to strip! I am really enjoying this part of the build as its nice that everything just comes apart nicely!

Anyway, I know these may be boring to some of you experts, but hopefully of interest to the potential new builders to show how simple it can be, so lets crack on....front end to be stripped today, started with the inner wheel liners so that you can access all the bolts holding on the wings and bumper...

front bumper can now be removed...

This now allows me to get at the headlight bolts and remove these...

To get to all the wing bolts I needed to remove the front plastic and the wiper scuttle

Offside wing removed...

Nearside wing removed...

Moving to the rear of the car now and I removed the offside rear quarter, this is bolted on, but you also have to drill out 3 rivets that are hidden under the trim at the top of the quarter

And lastly the other rear quarter

Thats it for now, next jobs will be to strip the doors down ready for cutting.

Cant believe i nearly have the car ready for dry fitting....after a handful of hours!!

got a little more time on her at the weekend, concentrated on the doors and the interior bits...

Door cards came off pretty easily and I never broke any of the clips!!

Need to remember what plugs in where as I intent to keep the tweeters in the new door cards

next strip off the B pillar plastic so that I can remove the parts from above the storage boxes

All removed!!

I then ran the build video part 1 on my tablet and walked round the car marking off the cuts and folds ready for Monday night when I hope to "cut 'er up" !

I bought an air saw and hooked it up to my compressor to test it...its amazing! what a great bit of kit! throw away the hacksaws!

oh I have also sprayed and sprayed all the nuts and threads of the front suspension with plusgas to hopefully release them easier.

I als owanted to spray the decat manifold with it, but I cant get the cover off without removing the O2 sensors, so I have ordered the socket for that....I nearly have everthing I need...

Thats it for now....thanks for looking

Looking good.
I have done all the work now, the biggest bit was the front internal arches.
Now done and under sealed.
Sorting out the sound system and wiring now so that it's all ready.
Cleaned engine bay and all round the front. Sprayed wash bottle.
Ordered a header manifold from the USA to do away with the pre cats and get better sound from the engine when linked up to the DNA system.
Only thing left is the fuel pipe. Got the Mondeo cap and fitting but need advise on the length etc. so going the leave that for now.
Also managed to get a carbon fibre engine cover. Looks great.

rudy,

your storming ahead mate!!

I did the cutting tonight all apart from the doors , i want more time and daylight so probably do those at the weekend.

I started to strip down the rear brakes so that I can grease them up and hammerite all the metal parts as they are looking a bit flaky, then one of the bolts that hold the caliper on sheared off....bloody thing, gotta sort that out now.....

do you know where washer bottle gets repositioned? or do we have to wait until we get the headlight carrier brackets fitted.....good idea to paint it though...I might do that..

I am looking at decating my precat manifold as I think the replacements are very expensive for a manifold....I can spend that money elsewhere...

cheers for now...

Hi Phills

Looking good buddy.just a thought when you strip down the suspension may pay to change the discs and pads too.put on grooved and drilled ones only cost about £160 for 4 discs and pads all-round and saves ever needed to strip off the wheels and dummy brakes ever again :)

Yes i think it best to re position the washer bottle when the headlamp carrier is on.

Keep the pics coming buddy :)
